A week before our wedding, my wife dropped off her wedding dress at Barry Regent Cleaners to be steamed. The dress, an original design purchased at Silver Moon, is a 1930s slip-style dress with a beaded applique hip detail made from pieces of a 1920s era dress. A Barry Regent manager accepted the wedding dress and was instructed by my wife not to steam near or over the beaded applique hip detail of the dress. The manager assured my wife that he would personally take care of the dress and that her request would be no problem. Several days later, I picked the dress up and immediately noticed the beading had been severely damaged: ultimately three of the appliques had to be replaced. We were left scrambling around three days before our wedding. Thankfully, Silver Moon was able to make the repairs in time. Silver Moon examined the dress and concluded that the dress was damaged while being steamed. We have been asking Barry Regent to reimburse us for the damages ($100) for five weeks now. They REFUSE to accept any responsibility, though the dress was damaged while in their care. The two managers of the store have verbally insulted the dress, the makers of the dress, as well as my wife and I. When we finally had a chance to meet with the owner, he was equally as abusive and unwilling to accept any responsibility for damage to the dress while in their care. After our meeting, the owner told my wife and I that he would call us the following week. Three weeks have passed and he has yet to return our call. I will under no circumstances ever return to Barry Regent to conduct business and strongly urge you to find a more reputable dry cleaning company too. My claims are documented with the BBB and Chicago Department of Consumer Services.

If I could give this place negative stars, I would. I have never left a review about any business before, but this was so appalling I felt I had to warn others. I called in advance asking how much it would cost to get a long formal dress hemmed. A female worker told me $12. I told her it was actually 2 layers, so they told me two layer dress hem costs $18. I chose Berry Regents over other tailors for this price reason alone. I went in, had the dress pinned to my liking, etc. and I gave them two weeks to complete it. I go in the day my dress is supposed to be finished (2 days before the wedding for which I needed it) and the dress was just hanging there and they hadnt even started it...never even planned to start it! Needless to say, I was distraught. They said they could rush and get it done for me, so I had to go back home, get the proper shoes, come back and get re-fitted. When I returned to pick up the dress, they charged me $25 - not the $18 they told me it would cost! A good business owner would have given a discount, coupons or something for a mistake like they made - but not this place! After everything they had done wrong they charged me MORE! I will never step foot in this place again, and I hope you wont either!

Very professional, efficient and attentive service. Someone had spilled some tea on my shearing coat. I took it over to the Barry Regent where they immediately went into action to insure that my coat would be worked on. The coat now is as good as new and I couldnt be happier. This cleaners was recommended to me by a salesperson at Saks, and also by my hairdresser on Rush Street (they do a lot of fashion shows.....) as the only place to go to for a quality job . Esp. if you have something of value. Have been going there for about 5yrs. now and last year brought in a silk vintage dress for a wedding that was extremely fragile. It came out perfectly. If you have something delicate, you can always call first, and ask to talk to a manager. They are more than willing to discuss in detail what you want over the phone. I also try to give them more than a week too. If in doubt, ask for Paul. He really knows his stuff and is extremely professional.

I took my wedding dress there. I had a beach wedding and there was a little dirt along the bottom that needed to be washed out. The manager assured me that he would take care of it personally, and that it would take a month. I went back to get it a month later, and it had not been cleaned at all. I sat and waited for 20 minutes while they claimed that they were "bagging it". They were obviously trying to steam it quickly. The bottom looked like it had been dragged across the floor when I finally got it. The manager then lied and said that he cleaned it that day. I got my money back and took it home only to find the dry cleaning tag which stated that it had not been washed only steamed. So, they lied, made it dirtier than it was and took no responsibility for it. Please dont go to this place!

I took my mid thigh leather Jacket there to be dry cleaned. When I went to pick it up, the leather felt unlikely harsher, even though it was soft(cowhide) before I dropped it off, and they ruined all the pockets of the jacket, I mean they were all torn. Little I knew about dropping off leather jacket for dry cleaning, I found out from a friend that I shouldve requested a written insurance from their part in case if they did any harm to the leather, so they can be liable, which they did. LAST BUT NOT LEAST, THEY ARE EXPENSIVE AND THEY DO NOT KNOW WHAT THE HECK THEY ARE DOING. NEVER AGAIN THERE, EVER!

Ill admit, that prior to Barry Regent, Id always hit a discount dry cleaner. With the discount dry cleaners Ive used, it was always the same: over starched, not very pleasant dry clean smell, and just poor results (although, in retrospect, I dont know what I was hoping for). Barry Regent has always cleaned my clothes thoroughly and made them like new! I take my "important clothes" (i.e., favorite dresses and suits and silk) to Barry Regent. No one handles my important and special clothes except for Barry Regent.

Secretly, everyone in Chicago uses them. I know a whole group of women that live in the Gold Coast that take their clothing to Lakeview because they only trust Barry Regent Cleaners (plus they take care of furs). I also trust them with my hard-earned suits and precious cashmeres. You know nothing will be ruined, and it doesnt seem to wear down your clothes with heavy chemicals or anything.

Best cleaners in the city, possibly the country! Worth the extra money to have your clothes looked after by real professionals. I have used Barry-Regent for a couple of years since someone at Bloomingdales recommended them and I could not be more impressed. They are consistent in quality, and have always taken the extra time when I have given them a challenge.

One of the last of the real "old school" dry cleaners out there. If you have an article of value that you want cleaned, altered, pressed, or preserved and want it done right take it here. You might pay a few more dollars but the service is A+ and they do the job right.
