I must admit that my first experience with Sunset Auto occurred simply due to geography. This shop happened to be close to where I work. My "check engine" light came on and I went there just to see what the issue was and then my initial plan was to get it fixed somewhere else. And there it was - the worse news you can get as a car owner: the engine has to be completely replaced. Eventually, after 6 weeks of diligent research and speaking with multiple mechanics, garage owners, on-line experts and mechanics who are personal family friends, I decided that this company was going to be the one I trusted to do the new engine install. When I started doing my local research I found the name Sunset Auto kept appearing best not only in on-line reviews (check for yourself on Yelp and the other sites) but also by word of mouth - turns out several people I know and work with recommended this place. The name just kept popping up over and over as the best. Then I was surprised to learn it is owned and operated by a woman!!! I couldnt have been more thrilled as I am also a working professional in a male dominated industry and I love supporting women owned business. True to what every reviewer here has already said, I found Maricela to be patient, kind, extremely knowledgeable, honest and caring. I even took her expert advice about which engine to install after she presented her opinion but let me decide - I was going to go with another engine. Never knowing if I was going to go with her shop, she worked tirelessly finding out answers to all my questions and even did research herself - I know she must have spent at least 2-3 hours helping me come to my decision and never seemed irritated or bothered. She never pressured me, never talked down to me and always took every call herself. The guys at the shop are also kind, courteous and friendly. They are prompt with responding to questions, always welcoming, seemed to be there at all hours of day and night, and of course have done a absolutely wonderful job installing my new engine. I cant begin to tell you all how much I appreciated this business, the little touches of caring they exhibited throughout the whole process, and, of course, the excellent end result at the correct price. (I know because I really, really did my homework.) Trust me when I say you cant go wrong having your car under the care of Maricela and her team. I usually dont write reviews because I dont have time but this business is worth it. Ive never seen a mechanics shop like this one, never seen so many very quality people all under one business roof before - especially a garage shop. This is the shop if what you want is your car fixed the right way, direct talk, honest dealings, fair prices, and caring people. Seriously, what more could you want???? Stop reading, stop researching - you found it - you struck gold - this is the place - go with Sunset!!!!!!! Youll see what I mean within the 1st 5 minutes. Nancy

My experience today with the shop today has not been happy. My Prius starter battery has been getting weaker and weaker. Like a lot of other things I has, its battery is also special and need special order. So I bought over Amazon. Interestingly enough, Amazon has a "Home Service" and I can order battery installation at a local store. Great, based on price and reviews I found this Sunset Tire & Auto Repair #3. The cost would be $15.45 and I was all set. Battery arrived but for two weeks no one call, emailed or text me for scheduled service. The website of Amazon was not helpful and my message to provider over there didnt get any response. Then I called and got a same day appointment. I was very happy. After arrived and checked in. I gave them the battery still in package and their technician started the replacement. Before that I was asked whether I wanted to keep the old battery and I replied please recycle (yes, thats what in the order). Then in the middle I was called to look at the car. Well, the new battery is slightly longer so the bracket that held the original battery need to be cut. OK, I agreed, understanding that I would always replace with best of breeds battery which typically will be larger than OEM. The technician told me that they see there all the time and often have to adjust or cut bracket. In a few minutes, the battery was replaced. The technician found one of the tail light was out, not a problem, it is just loose from replace battery. The nice people here even have the backup power so that my cars memory and settings are kept. All set and I was called to cashier. To my surprise they want $40.50. The whole reason I choose this shop I never dealt before was their cheaper price on Amazon! The item of "modify the bracket" was $0.00, which to my understanding is complimentary since it is really not a big deal anyway for a simple cut. I told them I already paid with Amazon and the price should be $15.45 they set there. Doesnt matter, one way or another they want me to pay the difference of $25.05. Eventually cannot stand the pestering I agreed to pay them a "fair" cost for "additional work", which means to cut the bracket. I told them $5 or $10 at most and you guess for sure that they asked the $10. I paid and was able to leave the shop. Just seems to add more insult over their unwilling to honor their lower advertised price, the guys told me that they dont typically allow customer to bring in their battery so I would get no warranty!!! I really dont understand how come this shop has so many 5 stars given their way of doing business. The experiences I have today are more typical of those who never want a return customer. I will have to inform Amazon too and I told them it is wrong so I have to review them honestly.

They Had Me At "Hello!" I had a bit of an emergency because my brakes started grinding on a Saturday, a day before out-of-town family came to stay for a week - and they were counting on using the car. Sunset #3 not only was open on Saturday (a rarity, I discovered), but also had FANTASTIC Yelp reviews. (FYI - though Yelp only shows about 6-8 reviews, at the bottom they have another 27 "Not Recommended" reviews... most of which are 5-star and super enthusiastic thumbs-up. Theres a video about why Yelp doesnt show all reviews right up front - not sure if its by how many "useful" commendations it gets or how frequently the reviewer posts or what. I just want you to know Sunset has 27 reviews, overall EXTREMELY POSITIVE... not counting the one guy who was mad because he had to wait 10 minutes - sheesh!) When Maricela answered the phone - cheerful, friendly and lively - and I explained my emergency, she said brightly "Thats what were here for!" Not "Maybe," not "Well do our best;" just straight up "Bring us your problem right now and well take care of it." So often the people who answer the phones are kind of sullen or indifferent, so Maricela was a delightful change! I brought the car in immediately, and although the shop looked pretty busy, Chris took the time to look at it right away. The repair was done by the end of the day, and the car was returned to me cleaner than when I gave it to them! Chris followed up a few days later to see how it was running - Boy, that little extra touch is such a smart move on their part! It made me feel they took pride in their work, and wanted to stand behind it. Chris is a great guy - also cheerful, friendly and lively - and happy to answer any questions. I couldnt be happier with their high-quality service, helpful attitude and professionalism.
