Didnt repair the alternator in the amount of time they said they would. Had the car there at 7:30am when they opened and the guy said they would have it done by 5:30pm that day when they closed. So we left the keys, signed the paper work and left. Well 5:00pm rolled around so we went to the shop and when we got there we were told that the work was not done because they got the wrong part sent to them. I asked them when they knew this and they said at noon. I then asked when did they plan on calling to let us know and the man reclined in his chair put his hands behind his head and said... well we werent going to. I couldnt believe it. We made it quite clear we were from 6 hours away when we dropped it off and we had to have it done that day or we would take it somewhere else. The guy at the repair shop was so rude that he even told me it was not there problem and it was too bad for us. We would have to wait till tomorrow. We had no choice but to leave it there because a tow to another shop was another $60. When I asked what kind of discount he was going to give us due to his negligence, bad customer service and lies... he said none it was too bad for us and if we dont like it we should get out of the shop. I filed a complaint with the BBB everyone else should too.

I have taken my car here regularly since moving here about five years ago and I have had nothing but positive experiences. The staff is friendly, helpful and direct. Most repairs have been very reasonable, and I have double checked every part they have ordered to compare costs online and their prices have always been as they have described. They have always been able to look at my car within the timeframe they have given me at the time I dropped it off. I have never been charged any hidden fees or diagnostic fees (I have always gotten my vehicle fixed at the time of diagnosis - they did tell me without hesitation that if I simply have them look at the car and take it elsewhere, that they will charge me a diagnostic fee, so just be aware of that). They are also very good about never fixing anything without your direct consent to do so. As long as I live in Bloomington, I will continue taking my vehicle here.

Total cheats and liars. I went there because my brakes needed work. They did the work, at what seemed to be a bit of a high price to my novice ears, and then told me that my wheel bearing needed to be replaced. They said it didnt need to be replaced that instant, but it did need to be done. I waited because they wanted $430 to do it. I find out months later that the part only costs $100 on its own, and the job only takes about 30 minutes. Where do they get $430 from?! Are they really trying to charge $11 dollars a minute in labor costs?! Take the car somewhere else to have the work done at a more appropriate price, and they tell me that there is simply and clearly nothing wrong with the wheel bearing, or the car in general. Im disgusted, and shocked. Do yourself a favor and go anywhere else!

I have a son that attends IU and I live out of state. When his car stopped running, I had him tow it to "ANOTHER" place and they quoted me $1200 for a fuel pump change. When I refused to have them do it, they still charged me $100 for a diagnostic fee and a $90 tow bill. So I called Bloomington Auto and they quoted me $300 for the part and labor. Since I was in shock at the very fair price, I had them go ahead and do an oil change. Since I had to have the car towed a second time, they gave me a number and added $50 to my bill. I also thought that was reasonable. So far the car has been doing great and I will for sure have him take the car back there for any other items that need taken care of. Thanks for being such a fair place and doing it so quickly. Tom Breece

I had some strange noises coming from under my car every time I accelerated, and I knew it was probably not good. I took it in, because they had the cheapest quote in town for diagnosing it. When I got there, not 5 minutes after waiting, the mechanic came and brought me into the shop, showed me exactly what the problem was, told me the average cost of replacing the part, and gave me the name of a shop that could do it... And told me he wouldnt be charging for the diagnostic, since it was such a simple thing. He even checked my radiator fluid when I asked, for free, because ExpertTire told me it needed to be flushed. He confirmed that it didnt, and showed me how to check it myself. Never had such a good experience.

Went to a Jiffy Lube to get a oil change and see if theyd fix my busted window-shield wiper fluid pump. They said it was busted and that they didnt fix things of that sort, so take it to Auto-Tech. Took it to Auto-Tech and they told me the same thing, (that the pump was busted) but for some reason it cost me $75 for the same answer? Diagnostics... Also, they said $75 for the part, $30 in hidden fees, and another $100 for labor I guess? Ive paid $335 for new brake shoes, wheel cylinders, brake line, and turn drums, but I wont pay $200+ for a new washer pump. I does it ma selfs.

Tried to grossly overcharge my wife (then fiance) last year for replacing plugs and wires. When I coached her through calling their bluff, they tried to say they thought her car was 6 cylinders not 4. Any mechanic that cant tell the difference needs to go back to school. Then they marked up the parts to a ridiculous level. They did let her bring in her own parts so that helped. The labor charge was still too expensive, but at least the repair was adequate.

The alternator on my car broke down last year. Not only did they fix it promptly but the secretary stayed past her shift so I could come pick up my car. Very friendly. I recently purchased a 95 Ford Taurus whose front end makes a clunking noise when I go over bumps. I was going to take it to a Ford dealer but after reading Jessicas review I will definitely be taking my car back to Bloomington Auto Tech!

The other reviewer is misrepresenting this business. I asked them to check out some issues with my car, and they told me that some repairs were not worth making immediately (Ford dealership in town wanted $2000 in "essential" repairs). Basically, I think they really honest and this is the first time I went to an auto shop and didnt feel like any issues discussed were over my head.

I got a problem of "service the engine" light on. It happen 3 times. Each time, they charged 75 bucks for plugging a cable to read the error code as diagnosis fee, even if I got the work done their. This Monday, it went on again. So far, it has cost me more 600 bucks there. But for sure, I will never go back to them again.
