I called around 8 AM to ask some questions about a package and the woman who claimed to be the postmaster, which I question given her professionalism, was very hasty answering my questions and treated me like a moron. I was (and still am) confused as to why my package was sent back and how the USPS decided that I do not live at the address that I am living, and her answers were formed in a tone of voice that was extremely condescending and rude. This made me very angry and upset because I thought I had been a good postal customer by changing my address in the system, and was under the impression — through having worked with the NCOA system — that if somebody wasnt at an address that they said they were at (which I am, actually) the USPS would find you through the NCOA system. She was huffy and started yelling at me that they deal with "50,000 people and you deal with 20,000 people. and its not our job to know where joe blow lives." At this point I got upset, started telling her that she was being rude and that she could not treat a customer like that — but she continued. At this point I was so angry that I accidentally slipped and called her an a-hole, at which point she hung up on me. I called back and asked for the supervisor because I didnt realize I was talking to the postmaster until this point — who would have with that level of professionalism? She said she was the postmaster and that she didnt have to deal with me, and that she wasnt going to let any of her employees deal with me, and hung up on me again. My questions are still not answered, and I am very, very upset. I have never been treated this way by somebody in any professional setting — not even from a cable company or phone company, which are both notorious for terrible customer service. At the post office I expect to — and almost always — deal with supremely friendly folks who do a great job dealing with the amount of people that they deal with every day. Having worked in a public setting (at a grocery store), I realize that you have to deal with some people who are not extremely bright, and that you get tired of answering what you deem to be "stupid" questions. However, it is extremely unprofessional to treat the person as if they have an IQ of 70, or to to EVER, ever hang up on a customer, no matter what is happening on the other line. I still dont know why my package wasnt delivered, especially because the information this person gave me said "we dont know where joe blow lives" — then how would you assume that I do not live at the place I am currently living? I would just like my package, a friendly answer to my question (even if it is the same answer — just be friendly about it — its your job), and for this woman to be reprimanded in some way for this behavior. Im sure Im not the only person that she has treated this way because the phone call begun in this manner and all I said was that Im looking for my package and I have tracking numbers. Ive filed a complaint with USPS, but I highly doubt that anything will come of it.

Ive been trying to get through to someone at the post office about passports. I saw on the website that I would have to make an appointment to go in and take care of that, and the hours for doing so were 8:30-1. Not kidding- I called yesterday throughout the day 16 times. No one answered at all. At times the line was busy, and I would try back right away- still no answer. I called multiple times this morning with no one answering. One of the times I called, I must have spaced off and let it ring and ring, because someone finally answered! I asked about making an appointment for the passport and she said they were now closed, and to call back later this week, and there were no openings until next week. I asked her if this was in fact the number I need to call, because I had tried countless times yesterday and no one had answered...and she said it was the right number. I cant believe how ridiculous this is. Not sure how Im going to get my passport, I certainly cant depend on the post office to help at all.

Worst Post Office I have ever used. On a personal level- Gave so much trouble in me picking up a package and when going to send, I paid extra for it to be overnighted, and according to the tracker, it was not sent out until 2 weeks later. Then the package was lost and never made it to its destination. On a business level- they told me that they will not pick up any outgoing mail, that i have to take it to a drop bin to send it out. They do not even get the mail from our closest bin everyday. The post office is the laziest one I have ever experienced. It is their job/duty to pick up mail and deliver mail. I think its ridiculous of them to refuse to do their job. Service wise- the staff is rude and disrespectful. Very poorly run.

New carrier picked up 3 packages at my house during heavy rains and didnt scan my packages on the spot. Instead he took them to his truck, where I expected all 3 of my packages to get scanned. Its been two days now and my other 2 packages are scanned in and in transit, but one the other package is lost. I called this location to get help with the problem and they basically are stating that on their end it looks like I never gave them the package and I wont be covered by insurance. I will be filling an investigation if this package turns out to be lost and I really dont appreciate being told that I am falsifying actual shipment of my items!

The staff at the post office are very friendly and provide great service. The post office is understaffed, which is pretty sad. However, despite being overworked, the staff take the time to help everyone--I have noticed even with customers who have international mailing--and who take a long time at the counter--the staff is always polite and take the time to help the person with the same courtesy extended to a person who is picking up a parcel or just buying stamps. My only suggestion would be to hire more people.

Any time Ive been to this post office the staff are rude and slow. I had major issues with an address change which took weeks to resolve and they wouldnt issue my mail to me. They act as if a simple question is the most inconvenient thing they will deal with all day. I understand your a government institution and that you work hard to get mail out to folks. Your customer service just sucks though. If it were offered in Ames I would prefer a courier service to avoid any more hassle with this post office.

Rude RUDEEE staff. I called to see if I could have my package sent to a different location, hardly a minute away from where it was meant to be sent since its an apartment complex and I wanted it sent to the office of the building. I was basically scolded like a child and told that I was not to expect this to happen all of the time for my convenience. Considering this is the first time Ive even spoken to them, I think its a little excessive.
