One of the bigger mistakes in my life was to hire this company. They came up at the top of the list after I had gotten my NYC apartment on the brokers list. I will encourage the broker not to allow this company to advertise there anymore. It started off easy, I talked to a Helen the Sales Rep and she was very kind, promised me everything would be very easy and transparent. She gave me a quote and I compared it to a different company and it seemed like the much better deal so I went with Around the World Storage. After that she became a little pushy and urged me to pay my deposit but being in sales myself I was fine with it as I understand she wanted to make the sale. Part of the companys offer was free storage for up to 30 days which was good for me as I had a business trip right after my move out. On pick up day I had everything ready to go, boxes packed up, etc. A crew of 5 guys showed up and started moving my things. The main guy did the paper work with me. Now they started the extra charges that nobody had told me about. Every roll of tape and every roll of plastic wrap is extra and much more expensive than buying it at home depot. During the sales process Helen had told me everything will be included in the total she gave me. When the moving guy saw on the paperwork that Im moving to Manhattan he told me that there was going to be an extra charge of $400 (30% of my estimated total). I could not understand how nobody had told me previously as they always had my go to address. At this point I knew that this is a shady kind of business. I was on the phone with someone for 30 minutes who claimed he was the receptionist and that no manager could talk to me. At the end I told them I would cancel the whole thing so they dropped the extra charge to $250 which still I thought wasnt fair as they had never mentioned this. The reason they give for the extra charge is that they need smaller trucks in Manhattan. I have seen the same truck size in Manhattan multiple times by now. My move in date was fixed for the 22nd and I was told that they would contact me 24 hours in advance to tell me the the exact time of delivery. I had taken vacation and organized help for the day. Just to make sure I called them on the 20th to confirm that everything was on track. Thats when someone looked up my file and said that it said "storage first" and that they couldnt do delivery before the 26th. I was on the phone with them all day, ended up talking to John who is located in LA. At first he made it seem like he would solve my issue but then he didnt and told me that the delivery date is only an estimate and that they have 30 days after that date to deliver (the good old fine print). As I was told my things were in Baltimore I said I would just pick them up. After a little but of back and forth they said they would allow it but that I would have to pay the entire remainder before they would hand out my things. Therefore, I didnt do the pick up, had to buy an air mattress and wait 6 more days for my things. The move in crew only consisted of two people. They put my bed together incorrectly and left scratches on my ceiling and couldnt understand the world when not getting tipped. I asked them to go to Around the States Moving for their tip. I hope that many people will read these reviews before hiring this company and I hope they will lose their business or seriously introduce some changes. PLEASE DONT HIRE THIS COMPANY

This had to be one of the worst parts about moving across the country for me. This moving company basically acts as the middle man for contractors they use to facilitate the move. What that means is, the customer service provided is horrible. I spoke to the moving company about 7 times before the pickup date to ensure everything was in order. However, they never called to confirm pickup, I had to call them. When they got there the guy charged me an extra $250 because he said my couch was bigger then recorded, then claimed he gave me all this free stuff (i.e. a box for my microwave after I was told i didnt need a box on the phone). Then it took my stuff an additional week to arrive. But when you call customer service they dont have any information so you have to call the contracted driver. He was rude and basically told me not to rush him he had other priorities first. Then when he arrived he tried to get me to pay extra for him to walk my stuff to the storage because he said his truck couldnt fit. Once I proved to him it would, he tried to charge me extra cuz he said my storage unit was to far from the entrance. Thats when I snapped and told him to take the stuff out and walk it the distance they were allowed and drop it. He refused and took my stuff out and dropped it outside, then took the towels that I was supposedly charged and then given as a courtesy by the first guy. I ended up writing a complaint in hopes of recovering some funds for my inconvenience. They use this shady claims service company that basically does everything to convince you its not worth doing. You have to provide this packet of information, which I did. Once they received it they made me mail them another letter saying thats all I wanted to include. Then when my claim was processed I got $68 back. I paid $1200. Now I have to write a letter stating I want the $68. Do yourself a favor, find another moving company. I read reviews before I used them and I thought since it was very few bad, my experience would be different, but I was wrong.

Would give them 0 stars if I could . I made a mistake by signing up with them since I was in a hurry . Did it WITHOUT reading the reviews . Dealing with them was exasperating and Im writing this review to hopefully reduce the number of their future clients / victims . 1) this company is NOT BBB rated ( red flag ) 2) yes absolutely the quote jumped an additional $600 on the pick up day 3) although I had specially requested weekend delivery ( before signing the contract and on pick up date ) I received 7 phone calls telling me that they couldnt guarantee it and that I *had* to make myself available whenever they would come . They tried to send me an email requesting a confirmation of the address and delivery date ( which they obviously had) and fine print saying we will come in ANYTIME after your delivery request date ( I didnt sign it ). 4) I was told that Id be charged $75 if the truck could not be parked with 75 feet of the apartment . The driver parked it within 50 feet BUT I was still charged the fee . He said it was because it was 50 feet from truck to elevator and 50 feet from elevator to my apartment on the second floor . ( couldnt get a customer service rep on the day but got him to sign a statement saying he did park within 75 feet of the apartment and will be disputing the charge ) 5) my boxes came in beat and broken . Inspite of being labelled fragile ! My glass wear and frame was broken too . DO NOT SIGN UP WITH THEM . Terrible company . Terrible experience .
