I just got off the phone with Benjamin Franklin Plumbing after scouring the city for a furnace pilot light pipe kit to no avail. I explained that my wife (whose due date is today) and her mother and I are freezing with the furnace not working. All it needs is the pilot light pipe to be replace (I accidentally broke it while replacing the thermal coupler). I said I would like to purchase a part. The receptionist / dispatcher put me on hold and asked someone there if they would sell me a part. She came back on line and said "we dont sell parts" and later, "We dont have a part to sell you" and later - which is what really takes the cake, ""We dont have a part to sell you but well be happy to come out and take a look." I said, incredulously, "How are you going to fix it if you dont have the part??" Dead silence. No response. Even when I asked, "Wouldnt you rather make some money on the part than make no money at all?" she replied, "We dont sell parts." Maybe they should listen to their namesake: "Keep thy shop, and thy shop will keep thee." or better yet a twist on the familiar, "a penny shunned is a penny wasted."

Ben Franklin plumbing is a very honest and trust worthy company. I have now had to use them twice and each time they have treated each situation with professionalism. Their team of technicians are well versed in the field and know how to pinpoint problem areas. My first experience with them was when I had to call them in for a leak. Prior to calling Ben Franklin, I had another local plumbing company come repair my leak but they were unable to fix the issue and also left copious amounts of damage behind to my drywall. I called Ben Franklin and they sent out the best of the best. Jed, James, and Chad came out and not only repaired the leak but left me with minimal damage. This is the second time I had to call Ben Franklin Plumbing for a leak. Chad came back out to my residence (which was nice to see because he knew the layout) and repaired the issue. I would highly recommend Ben Franklin plumbing to someone. The prices are not cheap but they are fair. They tell you the price prior to starting any project. Consider using them if you should ever have a problem.

The technicians that visited my house were great. They checked my sewer line to make sure I didnt need an expensive replacement, and they didnt try to sell me on anything. Unfortunately, there was some miscommunication with the woman in the office. What I tried to ask her for was the cost of such an examination. She said they would have to go out to my house for an estimate. It turns out, they thought they were here to give me an estimate on replacing my sewer line, rather than on the camera service. The plumbers were competent and congenial, so I just decided to go with the flow. However, the delay in actually finding out the number (which was a flat fee on a service menu that she could have just showed me the first time) was a point of aggravation. The price being higher than a local plumber friend expected didnt help. Ultimately, it was a mixed experience, and I dont have just one single feeling about it. Ill update the review if I figure out something conclusive.

Not a good experience. There was a clogged sewer line and the plumber from Ben Franklin said he would snake it and then he should put the camera through the line. I said okay and signed his electronic form agreeing to the work. But, when he snaked the line and found the clog (just paper) less than 15 feet from the drain I said I changed my mind and did not want the camera work. He said that because I signed for it that he would charge me for it whether he did it or not--no backing out of the signed form. Since he wouldnt budge on this I said do the camera. It found nothing, of course. A day or so later I called Ben Franklin to complain. The person I spoke to said that someone would call me back. Now several days later no call. This just adds insult to injury. I paid about $600 for service I did not want and did not need. I am going to warn people on my listserv to be careful about signing for sequential plumbing service and not to use Ben Franklin.

Ben Franklin was the most expensive of the estimates I got, but they used copper and could re-ground the electrical system, which made it comparable. I appreciated the use of the hydraulic mole, which minimized damage to my yard and plants. they had to deal with some unforeseen soil conditions in my yard, which sent the mole in unexpected directions, but were dedicated to doing the job right. The crew manager was very knowledgeable and polite and was teaching his crew how to do the job. I appreciated the careful attention to how I wanted the job done, e.g.. new hose did extra cut off value and where they should go and put things the contract. The unforeseen soil conditions meant the job took an extra day and 7 shots to get 2 useable runs for the pipe but there was no extra charge. I appreciated that they asked about the tree assessment (required in my town) and before removing small trees in the way. They cut the wood and helped carry it.

I have been using Benjamin Franklin Plumbing for a few years here at my home in Montgomery County. They have consistently provided outstanding service every single time. Most recently I had a cracked sewage pipe which required a full pipe replacement. Benjamin Franklin offers a "trenchless" pipe replacement technique which separates them from all plumbers in the area. The crew came, including the owner Doug and manager Paul, and did a great job. They were all on-time, professional, courteous, and very skilled at what they do. By the time they left you could not even tell they had been there which shows their attention to detail and professionalism. I would obviously strongly recommend Benjamin Franklin Plumbing to anyone in the area for big jobs or small.

First the good news, they came in a very timely fashion. Our problem was a clogged kitchen drain. $79 to get in the door + $275 to unclog with a "snake", total $354. As the technician left, he made it clear that they do not warranty this type of job. The bad news, although we were out of our home 36 of the next 48 hours, the kitchen drain was clogged again. No warranty does mean no warranty, but come on, dont you expect a job to last more than 12 hours of a home being occupied. The only consideration given towards a repeat call would have been to waive the $79 to come in the door. Never will I call them again.

The service was good. I have used them for over ten years now. I have a boiler/hot water type of heating so have to get someone who knows how to work on boilers and hot water heating. I have one individual who I always try to get as he has been to my house so often and knows the whole system. The only problem I have ever had was a few years ago when my system broke down on a Sunday and as I have a club membership was supposed to get priority scheduling but the only individual(s) on duty did not know how to repair a boiler so I still had to wait. However, other than that the service has been very good.
