Dont get me wrong, I walked into Aveda pretty skeptical. I read the google reviews and was okay with taking the "gamble" of having a student work on my hair. But I had tried to save money at places like Great Clips or Fantastic Sams and was (of course) disappointed, as well as coughing up $50-60 at higher end places hoping theyd understand my curly hair - they didnt. Instead I got WAY outdated cuts, even when I brought in pictures of how I wanted my hair and bangs to look. Aveda is awesome. YES the students are just learning, but thats actually a plus because they seem to have all the newest techniques and give hip, modern hair cuts. I was very reassured because the instructor gave my stylist recommendations before, during, and after the cut. She was there to advise her, fix the little odds & ends after the cut, and make sure I was pleased with it. I felt very well taken care of. The only downside was the obligatory visit to the store afterward. They put all the products they use on you into a basket and bring it to the checkout, even if youre not interested in buying anything. They need to do it as a requirement. The whole thing is a little like youre on a conveyor belt so the student can get enough hours to graduate and check off their "to-do" list--offering you tea, giving you a little massage, etc. The massage was okay but it felt forced just like the store visit. Also you need to have time, my appointment was at 1:00 and I wasnt seen until 1:30, didnt get out of there until about 2:45. Overall though, I spent $15 on the best hair cut Ive ever gotten and someone finally UNDERSTOOD my poofy, unmanageable hair and gave me stylish layers without cutting it too short. Its a great way to get a hip cut without spending $50.

My daughter and myself had full foil services at Aveda Institute. I couldnt be more than pleased with outcome of services I received. On the other hand, my 19 year old daughters results are unacceptable. It is not concerning she didnt get the desired color look, uneven hair strand color, or colors failing to blend, we understand its a learning environment. On the other hand, the bottom eight inches of her hair is fried. The look, texture and feel can only be described to that of a Barbies hair. My heart is heavy for my daughter who had beautiful, long, flowing and healthy hair. She posted before snd after pictures on social media and thankfully, a stylist who specializes in correction stepped up to help. Thank goodness it was not our stylists, but unfortunately also listened to gossip, backstabbing and high-school type drama by other stylists. ie: Student left client for smoke break whom had 99 hours of absences thus far. She was discharged from program as she exceeded the 100 hours of absences. Enviroment was less than professional. I mentioned previously, I understand students are in learning process. My hope would be better supervision to eliminate any further outcomes such as my daughters. Its not the amount of money this will cost to try to fix, its the damage to her hair that may take months to repair. UPDATE: Aveda contacted my daughter with a remedy to this experience. Thank you!

Sadly, you will not get $21,000 worth of education if you send your child here. 75% of instructors spend the day socializing while the student waits for the instructor to come and assist. Instructors disappear and students run all over searching for them so they can get advice or support. Instructors stand around talking and make students and clients wait for them to finish talking. When asking an instructor for help, in front of a client the instructor said to get a book out. Instructors bad mouth other students and have favorites. Clients are not distributed evenly. Some students work on clients all day, while others sit, talk, leave, get instructors coffee, smoke break, coloring each others hair, waxing each other eyebrows, etc. You pay for the name and not the education. Education is taught with videos and then sent home to watch the video again. Students color pictures and draw as "wellness " in the beginning phases or watch YouTube videos for inspiration. The front desk over books more appointments than students, and its all about as much money as Aveda can make. Students work long shifts without lunch breaks on occasion. You have to watch your state hours or someone may screw up your attendance and then you have to prove you were there that day. This is a very brief description of what going to Aveda is like. I very highly suggest looking into other schools.

I was totally disappointed and somewhat frustrated. I gave them a second chance. It was my second time making the same mistake- letting them do my hair. This time, I thought it was just coloring my hair. How could it possibly go wrong? They would get a close enough color. I should not need to be worried. Totally wrong. They could not even get the color right. I asked for a chestnut color and the trainee totally got it. The educator completely missed it. She said she could not guarantee it would come out as the chestnut color without bleaching my hair. She suggested to go for a darker color which looked fine to me, so I said yes. It ended up A LOT darker-almost black. It actually resembled my original hair color which was black. If I am looking for a color like my original hair, why would I need to color it. Anyway, they were nice enough to offer a "redo" but the policy was I had to do it within a week. They also told me that they would need to bleach my hair to make it lighter and it would take a few hours. Okay, if I do not have a job, I can probably do it, but I do have job, so I cant. I told the manager what had happened and ended up not paying for the service and left. Also, I have never in my life bleach my hair to make it lighter. A box of color does the trick. I will not return to Aveda anymore. If I could, I would put only half of a star here.

I was here a few weeks ago to get a trim. I had a level 2 student stylist and thats what I told her, just a trim because Im trying to keep it long and grow it out. The student stylist was very nice, but a couple times throughout our conversation it seemed like she wasnt paying attention to what I was saying about what I wanted for my hair. And maybe thats why I wound up with inches cut off, instead of the less than an inch that I said I wanted. There are a couple places where it was cut crooked, too. It also seems strangely thinned out and just feels odd. The elusive instructor came by once before the cut so that the stylist could tell her what I wanted, but the instructor never came back to check it. Mid way through the hair cut I started to panic when I saw my freshly cut hair on the floor and realized way more was coming off than I wanted. There was also a slip up with the face framing. After that I just wanted to get out of there. The cut doesnt look bad to other people, fortunately. But this has been a set back for me, because now I have to wait a year or so for my hair to get back to where it was and my goal was to grow it out and have nice long hair. And thats what I told the stylist before the cut. If your hair is important to you, dont take the risk—pay a little more and go somewhere where the stylists are more professional.
