Denny Kemp is my new tried and true, trusted salon. Admittedly, not one to write reviews EVER, I felt the receptionist and stylists were more than deserving of my 5 minutes of writing, based on my experience yesterday. I arrived with a chopped, botched, bowl cut. (Rewind: 24 hours prior to arriving at Denny Kemps Central Avenue door, my hairdresser from another salon had taken me from shoulder length, tousled waves to a Dorothy Hammel bowl cut. You cant exactly glue it back on, the damage was done.) Manuel initially consulted with me about my options. Kind, professional, clearly gifted in all things related to hair and style, he was not arrogant but rather compassionate as he articulated his thoughts. He patiently explained my options. Next, Denny Kemp himself weighed in as well, and proceeded to do the actual cut and style with Manuel. (Yup, my bowl cut was that bad. 2 stylists had to troubleshoot the day priors hack job.) Denny Kemp is genius. One hour later, two of the most talented, brilliant stylists had talked me through a haircut, with, I mention, a noteworthy level of sensitivity. (After all, how do you trust someone with your personal definition of style, having suffered with PTSC- Post Traumatic Stress Cut) all night, forgoing sleep in search of the best salons?!) I arrived at the Denny Kemp Salon Spa feeling like I wanted to hide under a rock for 2 years. I left with a cut that I could live with as my hair grows back. Most importantly, I left with a style that conveyed everything I was and am today (40+ years in the making, thank you very much.). Kinda nice to be stopped downtown by a stranger this morning, "Great haircut." Actually, great salon! Thank you Manuel and Denny. Ill see you for my next haircut, and every cut thereafter...

I hop around salons for haircuts, but have a colorist Im loyal to. I decided to try Denny Kemp. That will be the last trip there, ever. I told the girl I wanted to grow out my layers, just trim the back, and im growing out my bangs. She asked what products I used (probably hoping Id say Suave or something so she could convert me.) I use the products they sell-Bumble&Bumble and Shu. So instead of saying great! she asked what specific product and told me every product I used was wrong and should use a different B&B..how insulting. For no apparent reason, as I was talking about how awesome my colorist was, she left to get Judy, the best colorist ever who came over, inspected my hair and basically told me how horrible it was (I go to Juut for color). I was flabbergasted to say the least. Judy then came over after my blowdry and started to go on and on about how awful my color was and how she would put bright white chunks (Is it 1998???) I felt personally attacked by this whole situation. I did not ask for a consultation and I certainly didnt ask for a woman with maroon hair and lipstick in her teeth to tell me how ugly my highlights are. The only good part of the experience was a cool braid the girl put in my hair after the blowdry. Expect I didnt realize how sh*tty my haircut was until I got home and saw tons of choppy blunt layers. The reason I went to was to grow out my current layers and get it all one-length!!!!!!!!! Now I have WORSE ones. I have NEVER in my life be more angry with an experience. EVERY salon is better than Denny Kemp and Ive tried them all. FAIL

I was so excited to see a Groupon for this salon and purchased it immediately! I scheduled a consult to see if I could even get the color/highlight package, since my hair was growing out of another highlighting job..the stylist said I couldnt, which I expected, so I was going to use the $100 dollar groupon for the other option which was a 60 min massage (I think). The stylist called me later and said he could actually do a color with the groupon (his colors cost $75) so I was like- sweet- maybe I can use the rest for a (very generous) $25 tip. Well the minute I sat down before I even got half of what I wanted out (dark brown-really simple) he started pushing deep conditioning on me (I obliged..I cant say no) which were 50 but he was so generous and took 10 dollars off..wow! I am still thinking I can use the rest of the groupon for that since his colors costed 75 and my groupon was 100..NOT the case..charged me for a highlight (they kept calling my ALL OVER COLOR..foils!) So they basically scammed me out of 25 dollars and charged me 40 for a two minute deep conditioning crap treatment (and I tipped huge because I always do-even with crap service) This guy said two words to me the whole appointment and pushed every product/treatment under the sun when he did open his mouth. I am so disappointed and not to mention my color (two weeks later) is completely FADED..you can see my highlights again. Still so upset about this experience.

DENNY KEMP IS THE BEST! I have been coming to him for decades. Denny is an ARTIST, an expert stylist, and a kind person. He is generous, fair, a businessman, and outstanding special person! How about helping to get him to take a vacation of 3 weeks? I am sure a lot of us would like to see him be around a very long time. He is less likely to live a long time with all the stress and little if any true vacations. I HAVE A PLAN! How about you join me in Bombarding him with vacation picture suggestions that you send him to him at his salon in North Minneapolis? (Sandi, a very grateful customer)

Scott I believe was his name. Went in on a Monday morning August 2014, late review. However I asked for length and fullness. Got neither, cut a bob in the back which I couldnt cover even with extensions. I know he chopped my hair on purpose , went to brindle and blonde in MI and asked for as much fullness and length as possible, and my hair stayed in mid back length (2 years to grow back from Denny Kemp). Got exactly what i asked for and realized anyone cutting your hair to your chin( like Scott ) is doing it on purpose even with damaged hair .

I just got the greatest haircut from Manuel ever! He made my hair look longer and thicker and very pretty! He highly exceeded my expectations, but it is because my husband told me at least 50 times this weekend since I got my haircut on Friday, how pretty I looked! (The only thing that changed was my hair), so I know it is all thanks to Manuel! The whole experience was great and I would *highly* recommend his services-a great haircut will really make you happy believe me! Thank you so much!

Katie George is truly the best nail technician. I have been a loyal client for a few years now. She is the best of the best. She is friendly, courteous, completely sanitary (which you dont find her standard at most salons), and awesome at what she does. Pedicures with her are fabulous, but I am a big fan of her gel manicure. You will not be disappointed when you get any nail service done with Katie.

I hadnt had my hair colored in many years, but I was looking for a change after having a baby and decided to go to Denny Kemps. I wasnt sure what color was going to look good with my complexion, but my stylist, Joe S, was amazing and helped find the right color for me. It was a great experience and all Ive received are compliments about my hair! I highly recommend going to Denny Kemps!
