Been coming here for years. Brought my vehicle in for brake work, was called shortly thereafter with the diagnosis. $1500. Whoa. Okay, with the list of repairs in hand, I called and got another quote for $1000. I called Discount Auto back and was ready to come get my vehicle and have it done elsewhere. They said they could do it for $1000. Okay, fine do it cuz it saves me a couple of trips. He calls a couple hours later and says he tried to salvage my caliper (we knew he had to replace one), but couldnt - so its going to be another $250. Okay, well you already have my brake system tore apart - what can I say but okay? I call at 4 and he says hes done. I go in to pick it up and I wait another 15 minutes before he comes into the office to start checking me out. Not to mention the greasy footprints on my carpet floormat. After I inspect the invoice the next day I find I am charged for 8 hours of service (@ $95/hr) when they only worked on my car for 5. I go back into the shop to ask about this and am told that they work off some system that tells them how long a repair should take and if it takes less, they still charge the hours that the system says. Okay. I ask why, if you can do the job for $1000, was I told it would be $1500? He says the guy entered something wrong on the quote and the matrix read higher. Okay. Fool me once, twice, three, four times? Forget it. I didnt even argue. I understand that when you take a vehicle apart, youre liable to find more things wrong than the original diagnosis. I get it. I understand making a keying error when working on a computer. I understand that maybe a business pads their quotes a little - a LITTLE. I really do.But considering they charged me for almost $300 in labor/time that they didnt put into my car, and quoted me $500 more than what they could do it for, and then found another $250 in repairs that needed to be done - do the math. They guaranteed that it was my last time bringing a vehicle to them.

I went to Discount Auto Repair in the hopes of having my exhaust put back up on my car. I was a bit displeased when they told me it would be $250 but dismissed it. A few days later my exhaust was just as loud as it was when it was hanging down, so I took it back in to them. The weasley, grey-haired mechanic in a dirty wife-beater agreed to do "courtesy" work on it after much convincing. After completing the "courtesy" work, he offered to completely remove my catalatyc converter and run a pipe the length of the exhaust (ILLEGAL!). I declined and went on my way. THE NEXT DAY my exhaust fell off again!!! I brought it to another mechanic who told me that the guy had patched my exhaust with copper, which cannot withstand the heat. Not only did they overcharge me for something they didnt fix and cost me a week of work, they created more work for a competent mechanic! Better yet, when I went in to get my money back I was put on the phone with the owner, Shaan Aziz, who consistantly talked over me, yelled at me, swore, then hung up on me! After an hour of threatening to take them to small claims court, I finally got them to give me my full refund. Only go to these con artists if you have a lot of time, money, and energy to waste!

My friends car had the check engine light on for some time and just out of coincidence, we were driving down Raymond Ave and saw a sign that said "FREE WARNING LIGHT CHECK," so we pulled in. Her car ended up needing up needing some engine work, which she had done at Discount Auto and was very happy with. I have a 69 Camaro that had been in storage for awhile and I knew needed some TLC, so I asked Ed if I could bring it in to be looked at. I did so, (I was expecting them to "find" all sorts of things that needed to be done). I was happy to hear a report that it just needed a tune up and some minor repair under the hood. The quote they gave me was quite reasonable as well. Ed, Mike, and George are great guys, know what they are doing, and they took care of my car in a short period of time, with little cost for parts and labor. I was pleasantly surprised with the final price and work done. I had been going to another repair shop in St. Paul for years, but I am now a customer for life at Discount Auto!

Best auto service and staff Ive ever had or heard of! I was visiting MN from out of state over the weekend and my Jeep broke down on Saturday, 20 minutes from closing. Butch diagnosed it that evening and had me on the road again by late Sunday night. I didnt get into my story or why I needed to be home as soon as possible, Butch could see I was in a bind and swooped in anyway. He put over 7 hours of work into that thing on his personal time and I just couldnt believe it. He kept in touch with me to make sure I got home okay and told me to call if I needed any other help with the Jeep. Butch is one of the best mechanics Ive ever met, and one of the best people Ive ever met. Im certain the rest of the family at Discount Auto Service and Tire Center share the same traits. Forget about "Iowa-nice", you guys define "Minnesotan-nice"! Thanks again.

I took my car in yesterday to get the brakes checked out as they were making a weird moaning noise every time I brake. It turns out that the brake pads were just a lower quality and not ceramic so they end up making alot of noise. There is still 60-70% of the brake pads left on them and he told me to not do a thing about it since they are still functioning fine. These guys are amazing! How often do you take your car in and get told to fix NOTHING! They explained to me that there was no point in replacing the rotors or brake pads at this point and to come back in a year or so to get them done then. They even spent 20 minutes with me on the phone to explain the break pads, rotors and some of the breakdown my tires are starting to see. I will definitely be going back to these guys, and I highly recommend them to anyone looking for honest service.

If you feel like purchasing a car from discount auto sales, I would advise you to instead go to the nearest ATM, withdraw $4,000 dollars, pour a gallon of gasoline on it, and set it on fire. The results will be much more entertaining than what will happen if you buy a car from these jokers. Plus, you can cook hot dogs on the flames, which is a lot more useful than the 1999 Subaru I bought here last week, which now sits in a useless heap at an auto shop in the middle of Wisconsin. Within one week of my purchase the engine seized and destroyed itself because of an internal oil leak that I can reasonably assume was covered up by them so that it would get a "pass" from the mechanic I had inspect it. Good one guys, you got me.
