We can deal with the weekly misdelivered mail. Yes its weekly. Thankfully between the 4 of us neighbors who experience this have been okay with walking down the street to swap mail with the correct family. But the service at the counter in the afternoons that is given by the crabby older man is horrendous. As I have forgotten his name, I think it was something like Al, Albert, Alfred, but in case I am wrong he is large, wears glasses, looks like he is 70+ years old, I believe hes Caucasian and is the most rude man I have ever met. I stopped going in to that office for years because of him. I have complained over the phone to management. There are numerous discussions about his horrible behavior on Facebook. So many people have complained about him. But then it stopped and the word was out that he hasnt been seen lately so Ive been stopping in. Ive had great service each time, fast, very fast. Rarely has their been a line. My usual time to stop in is between 4:30 and 4:45. I use prepaid, preprinted, First class international labels. I always bring them to the counter to have them accepted. My son often runs them in as I am recovering from surgery and use walking devices and need the handicap access and often there is none available and parking is scarce. So this last time it was crowded in the lot so my son ran in. 20 minutes later hes still inside and none of the cars up front have left and its almost 5. 10 minutes later the lady who is parked next to me comes out and I hear her tell her son, who was waiting in the car, that it was awful and shes never going back. 5 minutes later I see someone has left an open spot near the front so I pull into it. I waited as a few people came out. No one is looking happy. It was around 5:25 and I went inside the lobby. There was a customer being helped and one waiting in front of and behind my son. A lady came ou laughing. Not happily, in frustration. She said to me that man is nuts. She waited for the next customer to come out, the talked about how horrible he was to them. My son let me in the doors as the man wouldnt accept our packages. 1st he said they were a 3 ounces over. Later I went to a Minneapolis post offfice and found that no, they were not 6 ounces, they were indeed 3 ounces as the label said. And that the price I prepaid was the same at either weight. 2nd he said its after 5 and he cant accept the packages after 5. My son had been in there for at least 50 minutes as we arrived at 20 minutes to 5. At 5 he locked the doors. Now he wasnt kind or even neutral about this at all, he was very nasty in his manner of speaking to us. We left and headed to a PO that was open later. My son tells me several stories of the nastiness that this man was spewing while he was waiting in the lobby. The worst being a lady who was speaking English but had an accent. My son said she was very clear and understandable in her speaking. She was mailing an international package and was at the post office at 4 to do so. But this man is so slow that it was now after 5 when she reached the front of the line and he refused to take her package because it was after 5. The worst part was every time she spoke he cut her off and yelled, not spoke, yelled loudly that she needs to speak English he cant understand her. She was speaking English, understandable English. Hes just a rude and nasty man. Shame on the New Brighton Post Office for having his man be the face of their post office.

What most customers dont realize, is that the staffing level at the New Brighton Post Office is based upon population, and New Brighton no longer has the population that it had ten years ago, so the staffing has been cut. Additionally, the United States Post Office is the ONLY agency supervised by the United States Government that MUST fully fund its pensions 75 YEARS IN ADVANCE! This mandate was ordered by the U. S. House of Representatives several years ago. So, all the money that COULD be used to increase staffing and service, instead must be set aside in a fund for FUTURE USPS employees -- WHO HAVENT YET BEEN BORN!!! Finally, the line would go a lot faster if every customer would have their forms filled out BEFORE they arrived at the window, and not slow down everybody else while we watch you slowly fill out a form. Theres also the self-serve machine in the lobby for domestic packages -- why tie up time at the window, when you can easily use the machine in the lobby, and mail it yourself? Ive been using the New Brighton Post Office six days a week, for the past two years, and I sincerely thank all of these hard-working guys, whom the public expects to be PERFECT 100% of the time. My hats off to ALTON, CHUCK, ROSS & BOB -- thank you for your continued assistance.

Alton Johnson is the worst clerk I have ever seen in the history of terrible post office clerks. He is supposed to be in charge of this location because he has some sort of seniority. Apparently hes been working for the post office for around 35 years. When it comes to Alton Johnson, this number has nothing to do with experience. He is completely and absolutely rude to anyone and everyone that has the misfortune of dealing with him when they visit this post office. As I expected, my experience was dreadful, and he is the one who makes it that way. He seems like the type of person that really doesnt want to live up to his own mistakes, and he pushes his work load on to others around him. He has made customers leave crying. He once (rudely) raised his voice to another customer asking "CANT YOU READ!!??" when an elderly man earnestly asked for instruction with some document he was holding. Alton, makes this place a hectic, frightening, and undesirable place to visit. If there are any one-star reviews for this place, it is most likely at the fault of Alton Johnson.

I have had consistently horrible service here. My carrier is amazing, I love my usual lady carrier, but the men who oftentimes cover for her are crabby and never get things right. My biggest complaint is around the those guys and the station who have a lot of work to do to carry out USPSs mission and goals. I get those pink delivery slips and they have NEVER been followed up with a second visit, nor are they marked as needing to be picked up at the station. So, I wait for them to come back out...to no avail. This last time, they messed up my fathers ashes which sent me over the edge. They came to deliver 9/13. I signed a waiver to have them left at my door/mailbox but the slip stayed in my front door until 9/18 when I finally took things into my own hands. I try to call the station and they do not answer their phone.. I called the national number to complain. This is abhorrent. Something needs to be done. Look at the ratings! I will be telling my family members across the US to NOT use USPS for now on.
