If you are not beholden to your internet service and cable tv, you might have options! But if you are stuck with one service provider or are scared to let go of cable TV, you are stuck and getting the monthly sucker-punch in your wallet. Be brave! Go internet only, go Netflix, put up an HD antenna for FREE local channels (by spending some money for a decent antenna on your roof or attic) and play the game with me. Otherwise you will eventually spend well over $100 a month for internet and cable TV. The game, the saga, and the money. I only require Charter internet/broadband service, not the phone and not the cable/tv. The charter internet line is great in my area and now with Charter bumping up the broadband internet speed to 60mbs you have a massive amount of download speed with a ping rate of 3ms! Very good, especially if you have a monthly payment amount of $30 to $40 a month. However, we all know the game where after 1 year of service Charter increases your monthly rate to much more. In my case it would have been $60 a month. Alas, I did not want to pay that much! One time at the end of the year, they let me stay on another year at $40 a month. Another time I signed-up for the 2 years at $35 a month. This time, after 4 phone attempts and 2 in person attempts to renew at a more favorable monthly rate, I was denied. What a shame! I make a call for AT&T Uverse and after making 4 phone calls, cancelling 1 order, and making another order, I am now at $45 a month for decent DSL internet for a year! The game, continues. Charter needs to do itself a huge favor and charge one rate for everyone that does not slay everyones wallet after one year and I imagine things will likely be better, especially when customer service improves on the basic money level. I have a neighbor who pays well over $160 a month for Charter internet and HD Cable TV and probably a phone!! No way man!!!!

After 15 years of being yanked around with charter we gave up. I have turned them in to the FCC at least 6 times for illegal billing. Have had their "intervention" team on speed dial. Then after all of these years they wanted to up our bill by 82.00 a month. Called and called, wrote, was told tough. Again another excellent example of their treatment of customers. Charter has just gotten too big for their pants and treat customers like some kind of spoiled left overs. There is not enough room to complain about their illegal billing practices, terrible customer service and how poorly Charter thinks of their customers. I have to say, Direct or Dish will have to be pretty HORRIBLE to go back to Charter. We are trying a wonderful local company Pyramid for out internet, they have been awesome and the speeds make Charter look like dial up. I can call and talk to the owner, to Todd or Randy for tech support and oh yea, they will come out to the house and HELP without waiting weeks on end and the bill is the bill, very simple. Also have Pyramid for our home line. They rock. Trying Direct TV, we will see, they do not seem to be much better to be honest. But it is worth a try and I received the best feeling in the world when I called and canceled Charter.

The WORST customer service available. I called in June to get a DVR that I supposed to get in May when I signed up. The person I talked to seemed nice and told me she would give me a month of free HBO service to make up for it so I said okay. However she failed to mention that after 29days I would get billed for HBO but not just HBO apparently if you get HBO it automatically upgrades you to the top package and now they expect me to pay and extra $130 to keep my service, $235 for cable???? Im a college student so Im now left with the option to either send my bill to collections and take the hit on my already low credit (college student..) or pay for a service that I never wanted in the first place with money that I dont have. But according to their records it said that I specifically asked for this package which is an absolute lie. On top of all this my cable only works in ONE room of my house (Ive called them four times in two months to fix it but everytime someone comes out its a new problem) so they keep billing me for service fees and it STILL doesnt work. So they are charging me more for a service that never worked right in the first place. Charter certainly knows how to exploit the fact that there are limited options in town.

Charters high speed internet speeds are awesome, by far the fastest around for a reasonable price. I currently pad $59/month for 25MB download speed - this is unheard of fast in most areas of the country. Their tech support on the other hand, has zero common sense and/or communication skills. The techs are so scripted they sound like computers. When I ask a question they repeat my question to me but never give a real answer. In my recent case I am experiencing intermittent internet connection loss, I have a computer, a digital video phone, a Roku box, a CCTV DVR, and a Bluray player all on my internet line. When the Online and Send/Receive lights on my modem go off, all of those components stop connecting. Now using common sense this obviously says there is a problem with the internet connection. The tech support in reading from her script keeps insisting that I call my computer manufacturer. Really?! Do you really think that Dell is going to support my five different components from my loss of internet?! Lady, the other electronics always work whether my computer is on or off, when your stupid modem stops communicating why would that be Dells fault?! Think about what you are saying!!!

1. Internet is not as fast as promised. 2. They lie and break the law, there is no reason and legally they cant require a tech to come out to set up internet if the cables were already there and you just need the router and the modem. 3. No way to pay over due bill after service stops during none business hours. Cant access account on app nor website on my phone, spent 2 hours calling to continually be sent to this office thats closed/east coast office thats closed and the auto service refused to let me pay through it after fetching my account number. I got a new debit card and the money is there to pay and I cant, I have no internet even though when I do its it half the time. I will be canceling my charter services in the morning. I had no warning that my card wasnt going through so I will have the bank dispute the late fees. 4. I have also been monitoring my internet speeds and they are much slower than what I had been paying for. Ive seen class actions for this and will be looking into one for northern nv like other states have tried and succeeded.
