I dont usually like to post bad reviews online, matter of fact, this is the first time I do so. The reason I did write this long bad review is that I have spoke to different LA fitness staff via phone who promised that a manager would call me within 5 days, but its been now 10 days and no one has called me. Ive been a member at LA Fitness since 2015 and was set to be auto charged since then. Speaking about autocharge, recently, I changed my bank and LA fitness was not able to charge me for 3 months, which by the way is the same period of time I didnt go to the gym due to my international travel and relocation. Last December, I moved from Alexandria, VA to Toms River, NJ for a job at Ocean County College. I started to explore the city, and of course looking for an LA fitness location here, I stopped by the location after I got off work, I met 2 ladies at the front desk, the blond lady (her name is Julie) was very rude, she kept asking what I want, I said I want to transfer to this location, I told her I know that I owe LA fitness fees for 3 months but I just stopped by to see the location. She said how would you like to make the payment? I said Ill come tomorrow and pay before I excercise (which was exactly what I wanted to do), she said "what time you coming tomorrow!!", she is a very rude person and I told her very nicely: "after I get off work tomorrow". The next day, I received a call from LA fitness cIaiming Dept asking for their 3 months fees, I told her Ill pay at the Toms River location the next day, the lady was nice and recommended that since I am a member since 2015, I should talk to the location manager to waive the 3 months fees since Ive not gone to the gym at all. I couldnt go to the gym during that week cuz I got sick, but I was able to go back on Saturday. This time I met the blond lady (Julie) again, she was busy doing some paper work and without even looking at me, she said : "how can I help you?" She doesnt smile, no greetings and VERY rude. I answered saying (with a smile by the way) : "I want to see the manager" she said: "Im the manager!", I reposneded :" I spoke to a customer service rep who said I can stop by the location and the manager would help waiving the 3 months fees since I didnt go to the gym for that period of time", of course she had to interrupt me for 3 times before I finished my question, I told her can I finish my question? She said: "Im busy and have a lot of work, Im stressed!" I have no clue why a manager would explain how stressed she is and put her frustration on a customer like me?! She checked the system and said: I see the customer service that you spoke to on the phone, her name is Keli, but No I cant waive the fees, I dont even know why she told you that! Then she said: I dont have time to deal with this! I said thank you and I left, but on my way out, she said: "I dont have time for this crab!" Other memembers were there standing and from her tune and the disrespectful way she talked to me, you can clearly see how people were looking at me, it was a real embarrassment! This is worst customer service experience Ive ever had in my life. I dont know how LA fitness still keeps such employees although some of the reviews here talk about the poor management and customer service. I would recommend people to go to KS Fitness or Planet fitness instead, at least you can get a better customer service.

Horrible and getting worse. I have been a member here for over 6 months. Today 4/14/16 I went to the gym and the toilets were still plugged from the night before. The glass window to the basketball quart has been shattered for over a month and hasnt been fixed. It has caution tape over it....for a month now. The carpet floors are patched with duct tape. The staff always has their friend either behind the counter or at the counter talking to them. They dont say anything to you when you check in. Last night the young man was texting and we had to wait for him to finish typing his text before he grabbed our keys to check us in. Meanwhile, there are weights scattered all over the floor most days, gum in the treadmill cup holders. Sometimes there is trash left in the cup holders for days. The staff should be cleaning up. Some of the treadmills skip. I almost fell on one last week. I told the girl at the front desk and she said that "it happens". I was there an additional hour and she didnt put a sign on it or anything. Someone is going to get hurt bad. What if an elderly person falls from this? It still has not been fixed because I tried it again and it has the same problem. Two of them actually. Additionally, they have too many members. They allow clubs and sports teams to all come in at once and they take up all of the equipment. Today, a bus came in and dropped off about 18 young men (teenagers) and they were hanging out in the weight section and no one could use any of the benches. I would understand if they were working out but they were not. They were loitering which makes everyone elses work outs unsuccessful because they cant weight train. They allow the high school girls volleyball teams to come in all at once and occupy all treadmills. Everyone who is not in the group gets frustrated because they are unable to do their workout routines. Very disappointed.

Describe my experience? I used to think this LA fitness was a higher end gym, especially how expensive it is. And this gym completely has so much potential, but it makes retro and planet look a hell of a lot better, meaning with organization and how clean and well-kept the gym is. I have no idea if it’s under staffed or whatever, but literally the dumbbell/free weight section of the gym looks like a bomb went off... And yes, there are signs that say “Please re-rack your weights” but come on, you pay people to keep the gym looking half way decent, at least you can do is have the dumbbells organized, and I mean by numbers, not just putting them back on the racks… So most of the people who take this gym seriously, considering they are spending a decent amount to be there, have to find a matching dumbbell… The weight plates are literally scattered ALL OVER THE FLOORS... Seriously? Once again, understandable that this all falls under gym etiquette but still, you have to tour this gym for people and it looks like a mad house. Recently, someone took it upon themselves to permanently screw the triceps rope to one of the cables... Useful I swear. Oh and on top of that, there’s no cable attachments what so ever. I’ve heard complaints from people who work out there that many of the machines are broken, and never get fixed. Just the appearance of this gym just explains enough. Like I said, this gym has potential, but at least give people what they pay for.
