OK so here is how my Experience at auto tech was this past week. I had spent an entire month working on my 2001 Acura TL myself, and had spent nearly $500 in replacement parts as result from the codes being read from the computer. I called around to dealerships, and a few different mechanics that were going to charge me just for dropping it off. Then i came across Auto Tech on Google and noticed they had some bad reviews... That is not the case at all, The people at Auto Tech on Carolina Beach Rd. in Wilmington, NC are amazing, kind, and very helping people. After i called down to Auto Tech i noticed right off the bat they are RESPECTFUL, TAKE YOUR WORD FOR IT IF YOU SAY YOUVE REPLACED SOMETHING, AND DONT CHARGE YOU FOR B.S!!! In Fact here is exactly what happened, I called down there, talked to a very knowledgeable woman about what my car was doing who wrote everything down that i said and took it up the chain of command and within the hour i received a phone call. I ended up taking the car down to the shop the next Monday morning and walked home. Then i they called me with what was wrong and what it would take to get it fixed and quoted me a price, then later that evening they called back to let me know they would be staying late to get it done for me! When i mentioned i would walk down in the morning they wouldnt let me say no to them picking me up FREE OF CHARGE and told me they would have taken me home had they of known. Now for the part, I GOT CHARGED UNDER $200! THESE PEOPLE ARE AMAZING & I MOST DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THEM!!

I rarely write 1 star reviews, and maybe my case was a rare exception. Nonetheless: Brought my VW in to check the source of an oil leak. Service was friendly. Mechanic made a diagnosis and also mentioned that my windshield wipers were worn. I told him I had actually bought a drivers side one from auto zone the day before, which he offered to put on for me. Afterwards he didnt give me the box back that the new wiper came in but I didnt give it much thought. I was happy with my service overall until a few days later I had a VW tech look at my car and mention that my wipers were all in need of replacement. Sure enough, the wiper was the worn one. I called autotech and asked if they had switched it out, and if so did they at least have the box so I can return the new one, as its already worn down. They didnt have the box, so I went to Autozone to get a replacement wiper. At that time I realized that the drivers wiper matched the others on the car-- it was still the factory one. I knew this for a fact because the new wiper I had purchased previously was marked "Bosch" and the driver one had no brand printed on it. It matched the other factory wipers exactly. So obviously, the mechanic had not changed my wiper out and had kept the new one. It might have been an honest mistake but Im giving one star because I made three calls to try to get to the bottom of it, and they insisted they changed out the wiper that is still on my car, and scratched my windshield.

COMPLETE RIP OFF SCAM ARTISTS - BEWARE!!!! I have lived in Wilmington my entire life and I use to go to Auto Tech (previously called Honda Specialist) frequently. Yes, they have friendly people working - it is no excuse for their shady and chicanery way they do business! It wouldnt surprise me to find out they had to change their name because of it. They replaced my timing belt since my Honda was at around 80K miles. Well guess what snapped 27K miles later? They said their warranty only covers up to 24K miles. In my 25 years of driving and owning close to a dozen cars, I have never had a timing belt break (even the Honda manual states to change them every 70 - 80K miles). Once I told my dad, he said they had tried to rip him off. He stopped in to have his brakes looked at and they replaced his belts. The same belts he had just replaced two weeks earlier at Firestone. When my Dad called him out on and asked him to show him the "old" belts he at first refused, then admitted to just changing them and charging for it. Then, when my sister was there having her Honda worked on, they broke a part and tried to charge to fix it. My brother-in-law took it up with the owner (Chris) who then agreed to fix everything they broke. I will never go there again or recommend anyone else does either. I am positive the good reviews came from the owners and employees.

Ive taken my vehicles to this shop for decades and was surprised to read the negative reviews. After considering the tone and issues (1) it sounds like these are experienced complainers (2) it sounds like they are asking for free expert service. FYI, an estimate is free, a professional diagnostic exam is something you should expect to pay for. Auto Tech replaced a $50 part in my AC when I expected to buy a $1200 compressor, I saved $1150 and AC still blows cold years later. I took it in for new & expensive CV joints because its running loud, they tell me to stop buying cheap tires and my car will be more quiet, only charged me a diagnostic fee. When the glass companies and dealer wanted to soak me for a new Jeep windshield, auto tech found a technician to install a new one for about 1/2 the dealer rate. I estimate they are 40% less than the dealer, and only replace whats actually broken unlike the dealer. Its the only garage my wife will go to without me, like many ladies she is concerned about being charged for make-believe parts and work. She too has only had good experiences with auto tech.

DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR TO THIS GUY IF YOU DONT WANT TO BE RIPPED OFF. I wanted an estimate for 2 problems with my car and asked the receptionist if there was any charge for estimates. She looked me in the eyes and said no. When they called back, I told them I wanted them to do one of the jobs as money is tight right now with this sorry economy. Right after that, the receptionist told me they were hitting me with an additional $85 charge for the estimate because they said they had to diagnose the problem with their machine. I promptly reminded her of her word in the matter and even referred to my oil & lube center, BSI at Monkey Junction (an outstanding business by the way) which diagnoses problems for free with their machine. When they insisted on the bait and switch, I told them to forget ever doing work for me again. I just hope my experience will save some poor soul from being cheated in these desperate economic times.

DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR HERE. My car has been at this shop for over two years in various states of disrepair. I originally took my car in for electrical and mechanical problems, and while the problems were quickly diagnosed, they were never fixed. Over the years Chris(the owner) has given me various dates on when he would complete my car, all of which have come and gone. As it stand now, my car has had the engine removed for over a year with little to no work done on it. This puts me in a position where I cant really take my car back and take it somewhere else as no other mechanic would touch it, so I am really at his mercy. Do not take your car here, and dont believe his promises.
