Summary: I brought my car to Tuffy’s for an oil change, alignment, and tire rotation. Tuffy ended up calling me to tell me about $1700 of repairs and refused to do the alignment and rotstion I requested unless I accepted the repairs. After getting 2 more second opinions, it turns out that Tuffy’s repair suggestions were legitimate. however I am still disappointed they wouldn’t do my alignment or tire rotation without accepting $1300 of the repairs (minus the tstat housing). I got the alignment and rotation done somewhere else. So all in all, I would trust them if I brought my car in again, but I would have appreciated a warning for my control arms and tire wear rather than using that as leverage to pressure me into immediate repairs. ————————Tuffy Suggested Repairs---------------- $400 - They said my tstat housing was leaking needed to be replaced. When I asked how low it was, they said it wasnt bad right now (noone would have refilled my coolant in the last 4 months... $500 - New Tires. They refused my tire rotation because my front wheels were too worn. They said theyd complete my rotation ONLY if I bought new tires. $600 - upper control arms. They refused to do an alignment because my control arms were bad and said they NEEDED to be replaced before doing an alignment. Totaled to over $1700. ----------------------------------- Long story: I told them to just get the oil change done. I brought my car to my trusted mechanic the next week and I told him everything and he looked it all over. He said the housing didn’t need to be replaced right now and the tires werent too warn to be rotated but only had some mild edge wear because they were out of alignment for about a month. He assured me my tires still had a few years of life left. My mechanic didn’t see anything wrong with my front end suspension/steering but doesnt have the equipment to do an alignment, so he offered to drive my car to the Corwin dealership to get it done. Corwin did the alignment without hesitation. UPDATE: A few weeks even later I took my car to the Corwin Dealership to pay them $200 to diagnose the issues Tuffy’s mentioned. They agreed the tstat housing looked like it was leaking very mildly, but it wasn’t something they’d suggest I replace yet, not unless it gets worse. As for the upper control arms, they said they were loose, quoted me $900 to replace (Tuffys was much cheaper) and they said they wouldn’t suggest I do an alignment since it would get out of alignment again eventually. So all in all, Corwin agreed with Tuffy’s, and tuffy’s suggestions were legitimate. However, I am disappointed they suggested I replaced my tstat housing, and didn’t merely offer a warning like the other two mechanics I talked too. I’m also still disappointed that they refused my tire rotation and alignment because the fact of the matter is, my tie rods were replaced and an alignment needed to be done, regardless if my control arms would have taken them out of alignment in the future, and my front tires were more worn than my rear, so it would have been nice to get that rotated just to give me more time before getting new tires in the future. I got the rotation and alignment done at my trusted mechanic for $100, payed Tuffy’s $50some for the oil change, and Corwin $200 just to reassure me Tuffy’s wasn’t twisting my bolts because I was skeptical.

A big huge thank you to Scott and his team! My van was having some very concerning issues and I needed it checked out asap I brought it to a different shop and was belittled and told nothing needed to be done when I left that shop it sounded worse so I called and spoke with Scott and even tho it was a Saturday they got me in and fixed my car and Im proud to say it feels safe again. Many shops will sit there and tell women either A) something needs to be fixed that doesnt or B) nothing is wrong so the damage gets worse and cost more money......that is not the case with this team they make sure their clients are treated well. They have fixed so many things on my van and even fixed a big mess up from the prior shop for me so I didnt have to deal with the owner of the other shop I went to. I will not trust any other team with my vehicle because I know if I bring it here I will be kept informed, given information on what will happen if I decide to not do the repair, and Im treated with respect which is a huge deal for me. Thank you Scott and the rest of your team for treating me like family and making sure my vehicle is safe for me and my son I greatly appreciate it!

Had received quotes for some fluid flushing for my 2010 Kia Sedona 100,000 service. Had also asked them about an estimate for a 100k tune-up (spark-plug replacement). Went ahead with the fluid flushing and brought it in. Got it done 1 1/2 hours sooner than promised and they had also taken a look at the spark plugs. Was told by Chad that they "looked brand new" and he didnt feel there was any reason to change them. It was a refreshing change to have an auto service place tell me that I DIDNT need a service (an expensive one at that) that I had asked for a quote on. Too many places, especially the "quick oil change" places are all too eager to find additional services to replace, sometimes needed, sometimes not needed.

I used to take all of my car repairs in to Tuffys. The staff ranges from extremely pleasant and helpful to downright dishonest. I went in to have a part switched out in my car (a >$1500 repair) and was told that it would be replaced with a new one. One week after having the repair done the exact same problem started happening again so I took my car to another mechanic who told me that the replacement part looked 15 years old! I went back and asked for an explanation and they said that there must have been a "mix up with the parts". I dont know much about cars and it seems like the people at Tuffys were more than willing to take advantage of that.

We have been Tuffy customers for years in Fargo and that is due to Scott and the teams service excellence they provide to us! We are always clearly told of any maintenance required and never pressured, they are always looking out for us. We recently had some major maintenance done on a new vehicle we purchased just in time for a Black Hills camping trip. Scott made sure it was fixed for us in time to take on vacation and even told us to swing by with our camper attached if we had questions. Its hard to find a mechanic you can trust. We feel that we have found exactly that in the Fargo Tuffys!

We recently purchased a 1996 Pick-up so we needed to get it inspected. We brought it to two different places for the inspection for comparison purposes. We were amazed at the price and kindness from Tuffy. Tuffy was not even half of what the other shops cost was. It was nice that they took us into the shop and showed my husband the issues while the truck was lifted. We appreciated the same day service for all of the repairs that were needed, we were able to get a loner vehicle for the time it took for the repair. Thank you for your kindness and honesty.
