We are a family of 5 travelling through Ohio from NC, totally unfamiliar with the area. I find Cottmans shop has great reviews so, called them first to make sure they could take my 28-30 RV. per Cottmans main website they service RVs. They said bring it in and they will look at it. I brought it in. I parked outside their garage and the mechanic checked the radiator fluid for transmission fluid and transmission lines and dipstick and I think he looked under it for leaks around the bell housing, pump, etc. Found no leaks, despite me having to add 1/4 to 1/2 quart of Mercon V about every 160-200miles. Mechanic suggested it was an engine issue and maybe I need a tune up. Fine, but the only problem is their engine mechanic guy couldnt look at it until the next week--7 to 10days. Fine, I can wait, but then I was told the RV would be problematic to look at given they didnt have a lift big enough for it or a bay that could not get it up high enough--it would be "problematic". So they direct me to S & L Garage. Fine; I drive over to them, and the guy comes out shaking his head no-no-no, before I could get out of the RV and tells me he cant look at it--no room in bay and he doesnt work outside on hot days and that the "new" guy gave Cottman wrong info for directing us there. Fine, I leave hot and unhappy, and call back Cottman to see if his engine repair dude could see us next week as we are in no rush. The mgr is like... well, you see, perhaps, ...then says it would be problematic(28-30 class c rv is could be too big) and suggested another place. The tentative "good" news per Cottman is my RV isnt leaking fluid and they seemed nice enough and sincere enough, so maybe the transmission is ok? Im still left with an unresolved issue that could still be transmission related, though the engine could have some to most part in it. I just hope my family and I are not left stranded roadside because the transmission fails. After all this I went to walmart and bought a quart of Mercon V.

Mike was fantastic. He actually took several minutes to read over my extended warranty policy and point out pitfalls within my plan that could have cause me to actually VOID my plan without doing anything!! I know a fair amount about car repairs and I felt like he was being completely honest with the repairs and what needed to be done and exactly how long it was going to take. He wasnt one of those guys trying to sell me something that wasnt needed. My car is actually running better now than it ever has since Ive owned the car. The transmission is doing great so far and they fixed both axles too. They even provided a loaner car while my car was being repaired. It wasnt anything fancy, but it saved me a couple hundred dollars by not needing to get a rental. But, more than just fixing the transmission though, I actually felt like they treated me like a person...not just a number. They did all the little things necessary to earn my business for as long as theyre in business. Other places Ive gone to for car repairs I felt like I could have gotten more personality from a computer.

This is a gem in an industry that is awash in mediocrity and high prices. I have been a customer through two vehicles and several repairs, both large and small, and Mike, the manager, constantly under-promises and over-delivers, the way a great shop should. You may have to wait a day or two to get repaired, but Mike gets it done right the first time and will do everything and anything to make sure that you are happy with the work. This shop does all automotive repairs, not just transmission work, and it is well worth the drive, even if you are out of the area. Truly a remarkable business and one with which you will not be disappointed to trust your vehicle.

Dont bring your car here if youre a female and alone. A year ago they insisted I needed my entire engine rebuilt, a job that would cost well over $3000, when I had already had them rebuild my transmission a year earlier. They told me if I didnt my engine would burst into flames. Yes, really. He continued to insist that I dump another 3k on my 22 year old vehicle only valued at $1000, because "Its a shame because it only has 85,000 miles on it." And here I am a year later with only new spark plugs and a new EGR valve and my engine has yet to catch on fire. Now I question if I even needed my transmission rebuilt in the first place.

I recently had to bring my jeep in for service & being someone who doesnt know what the torque converter & planetary block is (see I paid attention & took notes) - Mike went out of his way to explain to me what those are & what they do. He explained it in terms that I understood. Being a woman who is so not knowledgeable with mechanical things - I am very happy that I chose Cottmans to repair my jeep. They kept their word on the timing of the repair & the cost up front. Its definitely nice to support the businesses that are literally right up the road from you. Thank you for making my jeep safe again for me to drive. Donna Rabe

My 1993 Dodge Dakotas rear end went out in Cincinnati on my way to Dallas, TX and I had it towed here. It was making all sorts of howling and generally unpleasant noises. Mike told me I was his high priority from day one: he searched and found a used rear end, which didnt work, so he then got right on finding all new parts. It was rebuilt in a matter of a couple days. They were then checking it out and found some bad front end parts (showed them to me) which they replaced (and which my hometown mechanic missed when he inspected it!). I would definitely go to Cottman again.

I have to concur with the other reviewers. Mike and the staff are tremendous. It pays to get the best deal you can, but it remains a truism that "you get what you pay for." That doesnt mean Cottman is expensive. It means your paradigm should be the best VALUE; the best combination of price, workmanship, and service after the sale. In that area, Cottman excels. If I could litter the internet with positive reviews, I would. Cottman has a great reputation they have EARNED,

Took my car in here due to clutch issues... Figured it was a cylinder issue and they agreed, repaired the cylinder within 2 days. It was a little pricey but you definitely are getting what you payed for. The staff was very helpful and professional as well as friendly.. The reason Im giving them a 5 though is they went above and beyond with their customer service, and they did not talk down to you like a lot of Auto places will.

I brought my 98 Firebird to these guys and not only were they very professional but they were quick about getting it fixed and reasonably priced as well. They also inform me of other issues I had with my car and offered to meet me after hours so that I could pick up my car. If I ever need transmission work again I know exactly where Im going. Thanks for everything guys, I appreciate it.
