Shops owner is a weasel. Not only I wasnt given an estimate cost for an inspection (where I basically told them what the problem was and just needed a confirmation) upfront, which is against the Ohio Auto repair law, and was slapped with a $45 bill afterwards, but they also found a water pump noise (fine, there may be some noise) and estimated the repair (timing belt + water pump replacement) to cost $800-$1000. When I asked the owner (Larry) why is it so expensive he said that they will also have to change the drive belts, main seal, valve gasket, tensioner etc (As I learned from a few knowledgeable mechanics online most of these things are optional and are only changed upon inspection). Finally, to find out what the labor cost is in this estimate I asked him how long it takes. He first told me that it would take 5 hours. Then, when I replied that no way it would take more than 3 hours on a Mazda Protege, he gave me a story that it is 3 hours for the timing belt plus 2 hours for the pump (which was a lie, water pump replacement only takes 30 min more when done together with the timing belt replacement), but they would be able to do it in 4 hours, blah-blah-blah. To sum it all up, I quote the other reviewers words: "Sleazy and overpriced." Too bad, I did not listen to him, the good is - it only cost me 50 bucks to learn the lesson. P.S. I filed complaints to both BBB and Ohio Attorney General in regards to not providing written estimates for the service. Update: In reply to owners response: My reviews goal was to warn prospective Star Motors customers of the shops business practice of not providing a written (or oral) estimate before the work is done which is in clear violation with the Ohio State Auto Repair Consumer Protection Laws. If my bill was higher I would have taken the owner to small claims court.

I really like this shop too! As a previous reviewer said "as a woman is is hard to not feel ripped off when going to the mechanic.." Ive been taking my car(s) to Star Motors for a couple years now. The staff and owner are friendly and always take the time to explain what if anything is going on with my car. I thought that maybe I needed new breaks the last time I went and they checked it out and stated all was good. They could have ripped me off. Their prices are very reasonable and they keep computerized records of all issues and repairs made to my old car. Their prices for an oil change are cheaper then a place like Jiffy Lube and their mechanics check over the entire car. I highly recommend them.

Extremely customer friendly. I live in Middletown and I was concerned about my daughters car. She is a student at the University of Cincinnati. She had some problems with her car and I looked at all of the garages around where she is staying. Star Motors had the highest rating and I can honestly see why. They were very accommodating and willing to help. My daughter stopped by the garage to have them look at the radiator problem she had. They were very nice and conscientious and did not talk down to her which is unusual because a lot of places will talk down to women. So I would highly recommend this garage if you need help with your automobile.

Ive gone to them a handful of times over the past year now for various repairs and oil changes, and Ive been nothing but happy. As a woman (and a fairly new car owner) I was nervous about going but they took the time to patiently explain everything well, helped prioritize the most important repairs, and didnt pressure me into anything. I went in recently for an oil change, and while my car was there a radiator hose blew, and they repaired it for free, with zero hesitation or questions asked. Ill definitely continue going there in the future!

I really like this shop. As a woman, it is hard to not feel ripped off when going to the mechanic, but they have always seemed honest to me. They are fast and efficient, and cheaper than any other place ive tried before. plus, they have helped me and given me advice several time for free, like topping off coolant or checking brake fluid. it takes them 2 seconds so sounds normal, but ive had to pay for that in other places. like em :)

Star motors charges quite a bit more than they need to for the work they do. Got a new exhaust and it was $1200 which seems a few hundred higher than it needs to be. My sister took her car in because it kept stalling and they couldnt give her a real reason as to why but told her theyd replace the alternator for $700. Alternators usually cost around $150 so whats the other $550 for? Labor? Insane.

Ive been using Star Motors to take care of my cars for over a decade. They kept my one car running great for 17 years and then let me know that the clutch wasnt going to last much longer and the cost of the repair would be more than the value left in the car, so it was time to get a new car. Barry and the gang seem genuinely concerned about my safety and are quick and fair in pricing.

Just before July 4th, my car needed a quick repair; the heat shield had come loose. All auto shops were naturally busy, so I left messages with several. Star Motors was the only shop that called me back, and the first shop that had an opening. I was in and out in less than a half hour -- for the price of a handshake. Great way to make a first impression!

I have taken my car to numerous mechanics before Star Motors, all said they couldnt do anything to fix the problem. Star Motors mechanic fixed it in a few steps right in front of me. Very impressed with the service and honesty of the business. Came to Star Motors because my mechanic was closed. I will return to Star Motors with all my car problems now.

Star Motors is great! They have fixed items on my own and my daughters cars that were not repaired properly by prior mechanics. The owner is friendly and easy to talk to and the mechanics know what they are doing. And they worked with my schedule so I could get repairs made as quickly as possible.
