I own a Subaru WRX STI & do most of the mechanical work myself, but Im not auto-body guy. My STI had a dent on the crease of the top portion of the front left fender. So heres where Canyon Auto Repair on Pacific Hwy 99 in Tigard comes in. Estimated Cost: $554+/-; Final Cost: $654+/- Positive: -Timeliness: I put my car in on a Wednesday for body work, done on Friday afternoon. Mr. Nguyen kept his promise. -Competitive pricing: I got quotes from 5 other shops & Canyon Auto Repair was on the lower end of the average. -Very Good Quality of Body Repair: typically I can see fairly quick where the repair was done. I had a difficult time finding where it was at even though the repair was on a crease. Mr. Nguyen gives you a lifetime warrantee on their work (but so does just about every other shop Ive gone to). -Mr. Hung Nguyen (not sure why they call him "Lee"), the owner, is friendly & energetic. Which brings your energy level up just talking to him. Negative: -Sub-par quality of the cleanup & protecting the rest of the vehicle during repair operations: I had white residue on my left door panel, inside & outside my lower left windshield, on my hood, tires and rims & white residue in my brake cooling intake up front that seemed to have pooled on the bottom after getting wet Thats how I got my car; a quick wash-down like I get from other body shops couldve probably helped. -Speaking of which, I decided to hand-wash/clean my car to get rid of all the residue & noticed my left badge fender bezel area dull unlike my right side. Somehow, the paint or coating has been dulled on the lower portion. Additionally, some of the top pop-up fasteners that secure the intake assembly you need to remove in order to remove the front bumper were not properly seated or secured; they were simply placed in the holes loosely without insuring that they were actually secured; its a good thing none of them fell when I drove off. I think they were rushing. -I had to pay what I call the "inefficiency due to ignorance". I was charged for the removal of the two headlight assemblies in order to "remove the front bumper". The problem is the front headlight assemblies arent connected to the front bumpers anywhere even if the front grill is. So there was no need to remove & re-install them to begin with. There is-one fastener on the left headlight assembly that would need to be removed to remove the left fender, but thats it. So I convinced Mr. Nguyen to remove the charge for the right headlight assembly removal & installation, because that wasnt necessary to begin with, but decided to not argue the left side since someone not familiar with Subarus couldve conceivably removed the left headlight to get to the left fender; that brought the price down to 15% above the estimates; a price I typically expect to pay when you deal with shops that work on so many different types of vehicles theyre not an expert at any specific one even if theyre more familiar with some; they typically rely on Chilton-ish guides/programs to do their trouble shooting & thus create inefficiencies which brings costs up & passed onto the consumer. If this was a Subaru-specialty shop their prices wouldve been higher to begin with, but I wouldve been more nit-picky too. Conclusion: I think this is a decent average auto body shop. I havent had any mechanical repairs with them & probably wont since I do my own work & go to shops that specialize in tuning & modifying Subarus for the rest. I think theyre competitive in pricing with labor costs comparable to many shops in the Tigard area (e.g. ACE Auto Body labor is $50 an hour Canyon Auto Repair is $53 & etc.). I think they can tighten on their quality control when it comes to protecting the rest of the car & final cleanup though, but thats a problem with a lot of shops except maybe Leifs, but you pay for that. So, I give them a 3-stars based on my previous experience with other shops & my own expectations.

Do NOT use Canyon Auto. I received a quote that a valve gasket replacement would take 5 hours, prepaid for the parts 2 weeks in advance, and scheduled an appointment for 8:45am on a Wednesday. My fiancee took the car in at 8:30am, and at around 5pm, almost 9 hours after they got the car, they called her to tell her that they ordered the wrong part and that they had to keep it overnight. They didnt even open the package and look at the part until almost 5pm... They then gave me a loaner car that was a joke. There was no key included for the trunk, the AC didnt work properly, the drivers seatbelt stuck, none of the door locks worked, the car was on EMPTY when I got it, and they wouldnt even cover the gas for the inconvenience; let alone the fact that the car almost ran out of gas going to the gas station 5 blocks away... My 5 hour quote turned into an overnight nightmare after I was assured it wouldnt. "The door locks dont work, but at least it [the loaner car] runs good." - Jerry Had the mechanic done his job correctly and opened the replacement gasket when I got there, they could have rescheduled. Especially since they knew it was my only transportation and knew I had two small children. Frankly speaking, I would not -under any circumstances- wish this experience on anyone; even someone I hated. Again, do not use Canyon Auto. Sure they are friendly at first glance, but I have seen much shoddier businesses try a little harder to take care of the customer when they screw up; and you can bet that I am more than a little irritated that when my fiancee questioned them on their ability to run a business, Jerry told her "Do you even know anything about mechanics?". My fiancee comes from a family of mechanics and would have done the work herself if we only had an engine lift.

I brought my car in for a check engine light. I used USCAN to read the code and got a "P0442 Evap Leak detect" code. The Ford Dealer told us it could be one of 3 things all of which seemed expensive. We took it to Lees shop and he ran his diagnostic and came up with a bad Solenoid that was not on Fords list. It seemed unlikely but I thought "why not?". He also cleaned some corrosion on my battery for ~$570 total charge. The very next day my cars check engine light came back on with a P0442 (same code) and a new P0456 (Also a small leak in EVAP system) code. I manage a lot of semiconductor maintenance techs who work on HVAC systems. A small leak in a closed loop system is not that hard to detect if you know what youre doing. Getting it wrong is a sign that they are just shotgunning parts and/or they dont know how to properly verify they now have a good seal when theyre done. Lee should have offered to refund my money for the last repair and give me a free diagnostic to try again. Instead he told me to bring it in (rudely over the phone) and I think he will try that same "Codes can change" B.S. answer he gave to Joy in her complaint so he can keep charging me more $ while he tries different parts out on my car, likely breaking new things as they swap parts out. My issue is not that difficult for a good mechanic, and they missed their first shot at a repair. Im going to cut my losses and take it to a shop that might fix it right the first time. I wont hold my breath for an offer of a refund.
