BUYER BEWARE!!!! Weve used Horizon for years. Didnt have problems with minor plumbing issues. We had their Heating and A/C maintenance plans, only to find out this year that their techs werent even cleaning/maintaining our a/c properly. When our a/c stopped working this year, we were told that it couldnt be fixed. Before the tech left, he set up an appointment for a "comfort specialist" (give me a break...AKA a sales rep) to come out two days later to sell us a $6-10,000 new unit! The tech actually got our unit working, but he told us it would only last a few weeks at the most. Maybe only a few days. We had some charred wires in our a/c unit, and he had replaced them. However, he made us think that our current a/c unit was actually dangerous because the amps were too high (which they werent it was a lie, we checked online regarding the amps for our unit), and this is why the wires burned. Plus, he gave us a long list of other things that were wrong with our unit without even really looking at our indoor unit! Things just werent adding up. This is a 7 year old unit that we thought we had taken care of with a maintenance plan!!! Luckily, we thought to get a second opinion!!!! Our second opinion said that all of this stuff was normal wear and tear!! Also, our coils were filthy with caked on dirt!! No one had been cleaning them all those years even though wed been paying for a service plan! This guy just shook his head at Horizon! He said that hes seen them take advantage of people! He said, "If I operated like this, Id be out of business!!" Lets face it. Well believe whatever they tell us to believe because we dont know any better!! Being a new homeowner, you live and you learn!! Theyre maintenance plan is pretty cheap compared to a lot of guys, thats why we chose them! But, if youre going to use them, ALWAYS, ALWAYS get a second opinion if they tell you that you need to spend thousands of dollars!!! It seems like other people have had this same issue with them taking advantage of them!! I wouldnt even trust them to install a new unit and honor a warranty! It looks like some people have had problems with them honoring warranties too!! Find a reputable independent contractor, thats the best advice I can give!!

Please be careful of this company. I saw some water in the drain pan of my gas water heater, looked to be a cup or two. Their technician came out diagnosed a bad leaking tank, and turned my water valve off stating the tank could burst at any moment. Since the tank is on the second floor I thought this was good advice. However later that day my air conditioner went off, I didnt now Horizon did air conditioning so I asked my neighbor who he uses. His company was in the area and came out in about 45 minutes. The problem was less then $200 to repair so I figured I would ask him to look at the water heater and give a price just to check Horizons price. First Horizon wanted $3400 to change the water tank, this fellow said that was about $700 more then he would charge, but the tank wasnt actually leaking. The problem was the safety valve on the side of the tank leaking out of its pipe which was dripping in the pan. He traced the problem to the water pressure being too high in the house and turned it down. This stopped the problem, but suggested we have an pressure expansion tank installed to make the tank last longer. This cost $400, and can be reused if we ever need a new water heater in the future. Later he called his supplier and found our tank was only 5 years old. I am not happy with a company that does not take the time to find out what is really wrong. I can understand someone not being through, but dont charge a fee and then just say we need a new one. I figure with all the advertising they do it must cost hundreds of thousands and every customer has to be overcharged and maybe just sold something whether they need it or not.

I called Horizon because I saw their advertisements. We needed to get our propane furnace running. They were on time and put their little booties on... great. He opened the furnace and looked at it like he was lost. He then tinkered around for a while and said you need a new inducer. Our "Flat" rate for that repair in my little book is $950. I said that is insane. Can you tell me how much the actual part cost (the way a mechanic does with your car). He could not. Can you tell me how long it will take to install, "About 30 minutes". So I am thinking this is a very expensive part. The part shows up 1 hour later (he didnt have it on his truck like they say they do) and I do a search online. The part is only $235. So why in heavens name are they charging me $950. I call the company right away. The guy installs the part, but the furnace still wont work. He leave and says someone will call me to fix the problem with another tech. He left the $235 part in my furnace and drove away. I called a local guy who is highly recommend and he actually spit out his drink when I told him how much they were charging me. Turns out it wasnt even the inducer that was bad. I will NEVER EVER, EVER use Horizon again, and they are such scam artists I will spread the word to everyone I know. Update: I just had a local guy come out at look at the furnace. Turns out it wasnt even the part Horizon wanted to charge me $950 to put in. It is something completely different that is only a $50 part. Maybe if Horizon spent as much time and money on hiring good people as they do on their advertising, we would not be in this situation.

Horizon technician arrived promptly for a visit to quote a Heating and AC installation job. He looked at the job and wrote down important info. Amidst the visit he called his manager for help. It seemed that he needed a second, or perhaps more professional “eye” to look at the job. After making it seem like the job would work out, one way or another, he specified that he was waiting to hear back from his manager. Before he left, he made it seem like he would get back to me with another visit that would include his manager, so they could go over the logistics and engineering of duct-work layout and such. Two hours later, he called and said they could not do the job. He specified that the job would take four days and too much of their man-power, “during peak season”, to effectively do the job. I may not be an HVAC professional, but I know for a fact that mid-April is NOT peak season. Also, I want to know the true reason why they would not do the job as it seems highly unprofessional to turn down work. Giving me two other places to call does not count, in my opinion. If my quote would have been too high, at least I could have been shown the respect of a fair and honest quote. Instead, I felt embarrassed and lost. If my HVAC job is to big for such a big company, what will the smaller companies do when they visit? During a time when people are hesitant to spend money, and during a time of recession, a professional HVAC company would not turn down a job. All I can say…. at least he was on time…
