NEVER COME TO THIS REPAIR SHOP FOR ANYTHING!!! This mechanic, Eddie, is one of the most corrupt, conniving, mechanics youll come across in SLC, I suggest ANYWHERE else but this place, so heres my story. After hearing really good things about how "honest" and "legitimate" this guy was, and watching the Ch. 2 news report on him (which is a complete scam by the way, he knew that the vehicle was a secret shopper before he diagnosed it, thus the "no repairs needed" evaluation he gave, otherwise he would have charged you over $1000 for useless repairs) I decided to get my car diagnosed. So the first thing he claims hell do the diagnostics for free, NOT TRUE, he ended up charging me over $100 just to tell me the fuel pump wasnt working, (you can test this in less than 5 minutes by removing the gas line from your engine and trying to start the car, if no fuel is coming out, dur, its the fuel pump) This entire time Im trying to get him to give me an estimate on what it will cost, which he would not give until he already started working on it, the total cost for a fuel pump, fuel filter, and the labor for those 2 parts was over $700!! I called the autozone that he picked up the fuel pump from, it was only $90. He then tried to lie to me and say he had to take the entire gas tank out of my car to do the fuel pump, which would be extra labor. Come to find that he doesnt need to remove the gas tank, the fuel pump sits in the wagon of my car, easily accessible, this job took him LESS than 1 HOUR and he charged me over $400 for LABOR costs, not to mention the extra $300 he charged for the pump, which didnt even come with a warranty (I asked him and he said it did come with a warranty, 1 yr 12,000 mi). When I asked him how much HE paid for the pump, he got really defensive and said "I dont have to tell you that" he then got very angry started cussing me out for questioning him about the absurd price for a fuel pump replacement. The day before he made me sign a paper that I only put the make, model, year, my name and address, and phone number on it, it had NO PRICE listed on the paper at all, this was before he even got to look at my car. He then claimed that I had already signed a paper agreeing to the price of $700 and that he had the right to keep my car if I didnt pay that price... This is by far one of the WORST mechanics in the SLC area, if you want to be overcharged hundreds of dollars for parts, and pay him over $300/hr in labor, then by all means go to this scammer, but if you want a decent price Id suggest looking elsewhere.

I have gone to Eddie for the past year for major repairs after recommendations from friends. I have a newer Volkswagon Beetle and have experienced some major electrical issues. Eddie has always called before going forth with repairs, explaining how much part from various places will cost and how much labor would be. After the major repairs, I have not had any issues, (which is remarkable considering the amount of commuting i do for work.) Recently, I made the mistake of taking my car to Firestone for an oil change, I also had them look at a coolant leak that I had noticed. The mechanic at Firestone called and explained that a plethora of things were wrong with my car. When I declined repairs and picked up my car, I was given a two page list of repairs that they recommended. The grand total...$1800. The next day I took my car to Eddie, he immediately looked at the car and reported that the only issue as far as he could tell was a bad seal. A couple hours later after checking my car for any other possible issues and replacing the seal, I went to pick up my car and was charged $0 for the repair, I will never take my car anywhere else.

The moment I heard positive feedback from my family about the owner of this shop, I had no doubt in my mind that I could trust Eddie with my daughters car. My family is originally from SLC but I grew up in Los Angeles, and when I approached them with the situation my daughters car was in, they immediately recommended Eddie. So we stopped by the shop on our trip visiting my family. My daughter is a fairly new driver, and in the busy city of LA it is very important to have a safe and good running car (especially since she is starting college next week). I am writing this review because I believe that Eddie genuinely cares about the safety of his customers. He was very understanding and quick to diagnose the problem, which was a broken fuel pump. It only took a few days until I received another phone call finding out that my daughters car was repaired. I recommend this mechanic without a doubt! Eddie will not leave you disappointed and will make sure the problem with your vehicle is resolved as soon as possible.

Had this shop repair my Intake manifold gasket at a 1/3 of the cost of PEP Boys. So that you know in 2008 PEP Boys charges you a bend over fee of over 7% and calls it a shop fee. Its like they are adding a tip to everything they do and present it like I should honored that they are servicing me.... Back to Hi-Tech auto....In addition to my manifold gasket, my A/C was needing service and they pulled the system down, checked for leaks, recharged the system in 1 hr no less and did NOT charge me extra. Edie standardly provides Stellar Service. Its like God himself is looking out for you. If you ever wonder if the people that write comments here are for real or are related to the shop, I want to let you know that Im only a satisfied customer, nothing more. I believe this shop to be a really honest dependable business that wont take you for a wallet biopsy. Trust is a big issue. Hi Tech Auto Repair is a solid 5 stars. This shop impressed me. Going there again today to get my coil replaced. 1/27/2009

This is probably one of the best mechanics I have ever been to. Having an older car, I have common, occasional issues that have never been repaired until about a week ago. I was traveling to Yellowstone National Park for a summer trip, and before making it into Idaho, my car broke down - thankfully in Salt Lake. Thanks to my sister Elisa, I have heard about this repair shop, and decided to give it a try. The mechanic Eddie was very helpful and understanding, he quickly diagnosed the issue with my car, and repaired it with a great, reasonable price I wouldnt have found anywhere else. The customer service is great, I wouldnt pick any other mechanic to go to. If you live in the Salt Lake area, I highly recommend trusting no other repair shop than Hi-Tech Auto.

Lets just say my repairs ended up costing over 4000 dollars, I can understand the first time, engine seals had to be replace, it takes a lot to get in there, but I was charged 80 dolars per seal, when theyre no more then 30 for cheap quality ( which he used) and around 40 for a good quality; also he forgot to metion the water he put in the radiator instead of antifreeze during winter. NEEDLESS to say I had a blown water pump and a cracked radiator because of that. I had to throw down the drain an other 1000 plus into fixing the car. He knows his stuff and is fast on repairing your car, but do your homework first if you choose him as your mechanic, find iut the price for the part and get a second opinion.
