AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS! I took two cars in for an oil change during the past 2 weeks and both times I had made an appointment. The first car took them 2 hours and they didnt bother notifying me that it was finished. I sat waiting patiently for someone to come and tell me and give me the details of the oil change. I finally went and asked and they casually told me it had been done for 20 minutes. I am still unsure why they didnt bother telling me it was done. I drove for about a week and then made a long drive of about 3 hours. I didnt bother checking my tire pressure before I left because it had just been done by a "professional". Before I left to come home I decided to check it. The tire pressure was at 55 PSI. The maximum pressure written on the side of the tire is 42! The pressure that my car recommends is 33. They almost doubled it. Luckily I caught this before my tires wore out/exploded or some part on my car went bad. The maintenance required light is still flashing because they didnt bother resetting it after they changed the oil. I took my second car there the next week but this time I knew better than to wait around until someone came in to tell me it was done. I waited patiently with a book as I was prepared for a 2+ hour oil change. I can change my own oil in under an hour so I dont understand how these guys could possibly take more than that. 2 hours came and went and I looked through the glass to see if my car was close to being done. The hood was still up so they had to be working on it still right? I waited another 30 minutes and finally went to the front to talk to someone. He went and checked and came back bearing good news. It was done. He got me squared up with everything that was wrong including my serpentine belt that was "worn and could snap off at any moment" (I had it replaced under a year ago) and sent me on my way. I drove to work the next day and just about drove off the road because they overinflated the tires again!! My car started shaking violently as I was coming up on a semi on the freeway going about 60 MPH but I was able to slow it down and let some air out. When I went back and asked them about the tire issue they said they had a gauge that was acting up for a few weeks...You are an auto parts store. Is it really that hard to walk up to the storefront and grab a new gauge to replace your shitty one that is ruining customers cars and tires? They made both my cars unsafe to drive, took way longer than it should have, and tried to get me to buy things I didnt need but that part is excusable. I will never return to their service center.

Slow, and either poorly managed or understaffed. My car stalled at the mouth of Parleys Canyon Monday morning. My insurances roadside assistance covered the full-cost of the tow to Pep Boys, so I decided to take it there. When I got to Pep Boys, they told me they might not be able to get to it until Tuesday - which was fine because I came in without an appointment. I stopped by on Monday evening because when I drove by with my co-worker who was giving me a ride, I could see that the hood was open. They told me they were going to try to put in a couple of gallons of gas in the morning when it was cooler to see if they could get it to start, so I expected a call with an update on Tuesday morning. When I hadnt heard back by Tuesday at 4:30, I started trying to call. After multiple calls in and a total of about forty-five minutes on hold, the service manager told me that the technician who had the information was on his break and that he was unable to find the paperwork with the results, but that the technician would be back in 20 minutes. Again, I expected an update after the technician got back, but I had to be the one to call in to get an update (which included another twenty minutes on hold and being disconnected). I was hopeful after this phone call because I was told that it was likely the fuel pump and that they would probably be able have my car ready by 4 p.m. on Wednesday. This morning (Wednesday) I got a phone call from Pep Boys informing me that they ran more tests and decided it was probably an issue with the fuel rail and that they didnt have the tools to fix it because its a direct injection engine and that it would have to be towed to a Ford dealership. I would have given them one star, except that they did at least offer to charge me half price for the diagnostic tests and to provide the test information to the Ford dealership. The people I talked to on the phone were also nice once I was actually able to talk to them after being on hold. It seems that their service department is overwhelmed and unable to provide timely service. I would have been fine with the end result of them not being able to fix my car if they had been able to get me the answer by at least the second day the car was there. I will not recommend Pep Boys to anyone and I will never take my car there again.

Do yourself a favor and dont believe the 5-star reviews, which are baloney. And above all, dont ever patronize Pep Boys - particularly the one at 2160 S. 700 E. in Salt Lake City, though I have to believe they are all alike. I just had the most awful experience with this store. 16 days ago I purchased a set of four General Altimax rt43 tires from this store. That event has its own bad story, which Ill skip. The payment price for the four tires included a "road hazard warranty." 16 days later I hit a curb as I was turning into a driveway at about 2mph (picture below of curb) and the right front tire went off like a cannon. It just exploded. I changed the tire and called the store to tell them and to make an appointment to have the tire replaced per the sales contract. I was told there would be a $20 installment fee, but no cost to replace the defective tire, and to bring it in at 8 am the next morning. I did so. The man I talked with - Ronnie - told me to leave the tire and that he would have another one delivered from another store, then would call me later that day to come have it installed. At 5:30 pm I decided to go there myself. Ronnie was still there and he said the total charge would be $105-something. Well, I was having none of this. I refused to pay. He said he couldnt do anything about the price - that it was what the computer showed. BS. They can type in and get any result they want. I refused to pay except for installation. He threatened to call the police and I urged him to do so, saying I would like to talk to them myself. Then I showed him my bar card (I am a member of the Utah Bar). Then I called a friend who witnessed the blowout and finally, in extreme nervousness, Ronnie rolled my tire out the door onto the sidewalk, threw down my paper work and told me he would give it to me free just to get rid of me. DO NOT EVER TRUST this place or the employees. They are all about luring customers in then screwing them over.
