Monday, March 13, 2017: When I first arrived, I tried to discuss costs with the man who met me outside and the counter person, saying I only need an oil change because its too cold to be outside. No need to change anything else, filters, or other fluids. The very nice counter person suggested I wait a few moments for the costs for just an oil change. He also pointed out a sign on the desk that said $41.99 for the basic oil change and assured me no one would do anything to my vehicle until they checked with me first. Ten minutes later, he came back into the office and asked us to step into the service bay where a technician was already draining the oil from the car!!! I said stop, I wanted the costs first. Then something frightening happened: the tech, a woman, came around the car and began screaming [literally yelling] at me] that "this is how we work to make it quick." I said, I hadnt given them permission, I was waiting for an estimate. She continued screaming, telling someone under the car to stop and "pour 1/2 quart of oil in the car and get these people out of here." She advanced around the car, still screaming at me not to "tell me how to do my job; nobody tells me how to do my job." I stepped back, afraid she was going to get physical [she was that out of control] and my adult son who was with me, stepped between us, saying to me go back inside Mom, Ill take care of this. There is no reason for you to be exposed to this. The woman continued to scream - I could hear her through the glass doors - as my son attempted to calm her. He told her to finish the change and we would pay. As I paid at the counter, the counter person repeatedly told me everything is fine, everything is alright. The woman in the service bay continued to scream at my son, asking him who was going to pay for this and telling him she would not deal with anyone who questioned her work. It was truly terrifying. I exited the building and got in my car and drove to a neighboring parking lot. My son called me as soon as he was out of there, apologizing again that I had to witness that frightening display. We will never return there again. If the owner sees this, that woman should be fired. She was physically aggressive and verbally abusive.

1 review 1.0 star rating 3/27/2017 I went in for my inspection with an older Subaru. This year, the inspection procedures changed, so I wasnt sure what to expect. They took my car for a test drive that lasted around 20 minutes after looking at it in the garage for 30 minutes... a total of 50 minutes for an inspection! When they finally got back from the test drive, they told me my car failed because the "break pads needed replacement" and that, while the rotors werent fail-worthy, I might want to consider having them replaced as well. They also told me their shop wasnt equipped to make those repairs (Im pretty sure their website says they do break work, but the employee told me the website lists a lot of services they dont really offer). Heres the thing... I had both the rotors and pads replaced less than 8 months ago! When I took the car to another local garage to get it re-inspected, not only did they tell me that the breaks were in tip-top shape (because, duh), they told me that Jiffy Lube had missed two rear lights being out, which did make it fail inspection. So, to recap, Jiffy Lube in Essex failed my car due to "thin break pads" that were less than 8 months old, but missed two tail lights that were out! And to add on top of that, they submitted a report to the state that claimed that my drivetrain had a problem, didnt communicate that to me verbally nor on the Inspection Test Report Form, and was ultimately debunked by the other garage. This caused the other garage to have to call the state to clarify, as my car couldnt pass inspection unless all reported causes of failure were repaired... but, again, neither thing Jiffy Lube claimed was wrong with my car was actually wrong! I will never be taking my car back to this Jiffy Lube. Use a locally owned garage if you can, and if youre in a hurry, take your car to Midas or OilnGo. These guys wasted my time, took my money, and STILL MISSED KEY SAFETY PROBLEMS ON MY VEHICLE! F-

Ive been here before and was very pleased with my experience. Fast, friendly etc. Today was a different story. I have a diesel Volkswagen and the last time I was here the guy at the desk mentioned that it was an odd type of oil and that they didnt always carry it, he advised that I always check to make sure they have it in stock first when I come in for an oil change. Well, I tried to do that today. The first person I encountered seemed so frazzled and stressed that I offered to come back later. I mentioned this particular oil that I needed (which I cant remember the name of now... but I knew at the time) and he checked with someone else who came over to tell me in a very rude, annoyed voice, "we have everything, we always have everything". I mentioned that it had been recommended to me by someone at this store that I always check first. He revised his answer to say he was "pretty sure" and I said Id like him to check so that I didnt sit here for an hour without my oil being changed. He spoke with a woman who came over to the car and actually yelled at me "look. We have it, ok!?!? " I once again mentioned that I was simply following the recommendation from my last visit and she snapped, "well I dont know who told you to do that, but you dont need to!" I told all three of them that Id prefer to have my oil changed somewhere where I wasnt going to be yelled at. I also asked to speak to the manager on duty (not to try and get anyone in big trouble, just wanted to mention the way I had been treated overall). It turns out the woman who yelled at me was in fact, the manager. Never again.

When I brought my car in for a change, everything was fine, employees were friendly, service was quick, price was reasonable. Two weeks later, however, the oil filter fell off my car while I was driving it less than a block from my house. I quickly got it back home and turned off, and then walked back out to the street to retrieve the oil filter. I called Jiffy Lube, and at first the manager expressed incredulity that this had happened two weeks later rather than immediately after the change. Nevertheless, I told him, I hold in my hand a ziploc bag containing said oil filter, with dents to prove it fell out the bottom of my car while I was travelling at 35 mph. Eventually, the manager headed out to my place to change the filter. I had to bring the car down to Jiffy Lube to get it totally full, having lost literally all my oil. There, the manager checked the filter again to make sure it was tight. At no point in the tightening process did I observe him use an actual tool--a rag in his hands seemed to suffice. For my troubles--which included the potential for severe damage to my car--I was not offered any compensation whatsoever, other than the free filter change. No free changes in the future. No discounts. No offer to pay for a body shop to check my engine for damages. They didnt even clean the oil out of the bottom of my car--they assured me it would burn off eventually. After writing this review, Im heading out with paper towels to sop up some of the mess. Ive never had such problems with Jiffy Lube in general, but Id avoid this particular one like the plague.
