After several years of renting (off and on) from other various local storage facilities, I decided to give Extra Space Storage in Kingstowne a try for my needs this time. Im not really one to write reviews, but this Extra Space Storage has an extra special element that seems to be missing elsewhere and deserves some serious recognition! Now that Ive experienced it, I have no intentions of going anywhere else for my storage needs and it is my hope that this review may influence others to rent from Extra Space Storage in Kingstowne. Everyone should be fortunate enough to have the same superior experience that I had there, witnessing a quality that seems to have faded away over the last decade from far too many businesses. All storage facilities obviously exist for the basic need of simply storing items, and serve that very purpose equally well, but how the staff treats their customers really should be at the top of the list when searching for the best storage facility. That is the extra special element at Extra Space Storage that makes them, in my opinion, better than the rest! Granted, you may not talk with the staff too frequently, but when you do, its quite refreshing to feel like youre at home. Kimberly and Kristen have truly gone above and beyond to make me feel like family instead of just another temporary source of income, which is why were on a first name basis! I actually ended up running into them far more than I imagined I would, and their warm, welcoming smiles were the first thing I noticed every time, followed by a pleasantly energetic greeting. Our conversations always contained at least one minor outburst of laughter and ended in a goodbye that really seemed to say I hope to see you again soon. Sure, some people can easily fake that kind of friendly behavior, but I know in my heart that its genuine coming from them, not to mention consistent. On top of that, Kimberly and Kristen will go out of their way to help if you need anything, and even go as far as to anticipate your needs and take action in advance to make sure everything is perfect and that youre completely satisfied before you leave. They are the dream team of the storage industry and Im blessed to have had the opportunity to benefit from their unique kindness! As you can clearly tell, I highly recommend going to see them if you need to rent a storage unit and want to experience a level of customer service that is unmatched by their competitors! Oh, I almost forgot to mention that the property is so clean you could eat off it! I would give them more than 5 stars if I could... I know this has been a long review and I thank you for reading. It is hard not to notice why so many of the reviews here are 5 stars once you come to this wonderfully clean facility and are taken, unexpectedly, by the seemingly out of place feeling that consumes you. You know you were driving to a self-storage facility, the Goog told you so on your iPhone 5S. What you didnt expect was the smells and sites that you would take in as you entered Kim and Kristens well cooled and cleaned office space. You immediately walk in and see cardboard boxes piled in a fancy geometric pattern, that trigger flashbacks to trigonometry class leaving you wondering why you let your life get out of hand and didnt stick to the math, fully expecting that musty cardboard and cheap packing tape amalgam that usually assaults your senses in these kinds of places. But here, you dont. Just CLEAN lemon-y freshness all in your nose and the sweet decadently festooned shelving lining the walls illustrating that the Ladies that run this fine establishment are truly committed to excellence in storage. This is just the office. Outside you find an electronic gate that works very well, no annoying screeching sounds, or worse, doesnt seem to realize that the code you were given on the card is SUPPOSED to open the gate...not signal for the police to come as if you were robbing a bank. No, no. These women work HARD making this storage facility look impeccable and all the equipment is in top working order. It should be noted that while they do make self-storage comfortable and inviting, their customer service skills are top notch. I personally tried to test the patience of the now fair haired assistant manager, Kristen, by asking a lot of questions and doing my best to ensure I understood all of the legal ramifications to signing their Docusign enabled electronic contracts to lock in my market rate unit. She just smiled and joked along with me and made sure before moving on to the next point, my concerns were sufficiently addressed. Of course, every time I come into the facility (roughly 3 times a week) I notice Kim running here or there or driving their hot rodded little go kart all over the compound ensuring customers are cared for and that there are no issues with their units. Naturally, when it comes to the business of moving in and out of your unit, they stay away and out of your hair and let you do your business! I cant say the same about other units in the area!! Overall, the Ladies here have it figured out. Keep it clean, keep smiling, and above all else, protect the integrity of their fine establishment with excellent customer service.

I was in a rush to get a unit so I did it on-line. I noticed that EVERY other Extra Space Storage around was offering the 1st months rent free but not his location. Since Im a repeat customer and because of the spirit of customer services, I thought I might be able to get that anyways. That was a bad assumption. The next day when I was suppose to get the unit I got a phone call from Kristen. She said she would not be able to honor the first months fee deal. I told her I was in a big rush because my movers were coming and I would be at the store in the next 10-15 mins to fill out the rest of the paper work. I get to the store and there is no one there!! I wait. I call the number that called me that morning, no answer.... I wait some more. I call the 1-800 number on the door... Another customer shows up and waits with me. Did I say I was in a hurry?? After about 15 mins of waiting outside, Kristen finally pulls up. I kept my cool and did not greet her in the panicky way I was truly feeling and I communicated with her that I was in a big rush. The other customer walks in behind me, she greets him by name and waits on him first!! No kidding!! I told her I would be there on the phone. Then when I got there, I told her I was in a rush and she waits on someone before me!!! Give me a break!!! I didnt complain at all though because I knew that would slow things down. So finally, I mean FINALLY, its my turn and she explains the millions of fees and insurance I have to pay for and the $99 unit (which most places would have given me free for the first month) ends up costing $133. Kristen asked me numerous times if I would like to see the unit and I told her I didnt have the time. Maybe if someone had been there when I showed up, I would have, but at this point, I had wasted 30 mins I didnt have. Hours later, I show up with my movers and there is no way to get my stuff in the unit. I was storing kitchen appliances and the width of the entry door was so skinny, I couldnt get them through the door. I had to go back to Kristen and switch units. I was charged a $10 unit switching fee. It made me so angry. Seriously! This new unit is $138 a month. After all the fees, I paid $190.47. Never again! I have a couple of weeks till I need to pay another month, but I guarantee you, I will have my stuff out before then.
