We ended up with a truck in the end, but what an awful experience to get there. We had a reservation for 9:00 AM, but when we get there they tell us the next truck is 6:30 PM! Well that doesnt work because we were moving that day. Its not a reservation if when you show up there is nothing reserved for you. We argued with them for a while, voices were raised, and it was clear they deal with this every day. Same treatment to all who had reservations. Everyone else who came in while we were there had the same issue. Absolutely ridiculous way to do business. Well their website states that you get $50 if they dont have your truck when you go to pick it up so we asked for our money. They said we have to call corporate and they wouldnt do that for us. They also said all the other Uhauls in the area didnt have trucks (but never picked up a phone to check). I went out to their lot and there were 10 trucks out there. I asked why we couldnt have one of those and the lady said no, because they were reserved. I pointed out that we had a reservation and they gave our truck away so they should give away one of those. The response: "We cant do that." WELL YOU JUST DID! I called the next closest one (on Columbia Pike) and the lady on the phone was nice as can be when I told her another Uhaul didnt come through with the reservation. She had a one way rental so she couldnt do it. I asked what one-way meant and it meant I had to drop it off over state lines. So I told her I would do that, go to Rockville. She sent everything up, reserved the truck for 5 minutes from that second and we were about to go. I told the manager what happened and we were going, he said he would call them and get them to put $50 on our account and that the whole local/state-line thing wasnt true...we could return it where we got it. He calls over there, after 10 minutes of them looking at the wrong reservation, he tells us that we werent scheduled to get our truck till....6:30 PM! Shocker. I had literally just a minute ago made a 9:45 AM reservation and they already broke it. My friend has his attorney mother call corporate and she threatens a class action suit, gets the regional manager on the line and they cave real fast. We are getting phone calls about our two $50 refunds sometime in the next 24 hours. In the mean time, the Falls Church location magically finds a truck, its smaller than what we reserved but we take it to get out of there and move on (bad pun). My friend who made the original reservation got his $50, I didnt push on the one I made since we didnt actually go try to pick up the truck. UPDATE: My buddy who made the reservation just sent the following email (note - he was contacted today, Tuesday about our Saturday pickup and return): I just got a text message from uhaul saying I have an overdue rental. The text also gave a phone number to call and a contract number. I called the number and its OUT OF SERVICE!! Then I called the store, was on hold for 20 minutes, and they had no idea whats going on, then they transferred me to the regional center where I was on hold again for 10 minutes only to get a customer service rep who asks me if I returned the truck yet! He was like I cant get a hold of the people at that branch and he also said they might still be checking equipment in. I told him that we rented on SATURDAY and he didnt say anything. I asked him if it will be resolved by the end of the week at least, he said I HAVE NO IDEA! What kind of company is this? Also asked him if I have a $50 credit on my account and he said there is nothing shown and that he has no idea what to do about that...and that I was on my own for that.

**Upgraded from 1 to three stars, manager resolved the issue by getting my hitch corrected today. The hitch installers are tops, very friendly and know what they are doing. Just be aware of the problems with U-Hauls internal communication and dont expect any support from U-Haul corporate if you have a problem.** Multiple communication problems with what should have been a simple hitch install. Originally scheduled for 630pm, then they called back and accused me of scheduling a time that they dont offer installs. I provided my own U-Haul hitch and wiring from a vehicle I sold for install on a new vehicle. These were shown when I dropped off the van to a U-Haul employee. Returned to pick up my van and it had a new hitch with the wrong receiver (1.25 vs 2 inch) and no wiring installed. Front desk employee said she was "too busy" to call the manager who had left for the day. Left a message for the manager to call me ASAP. Call the next morning and left another message. By midday I called again and contacted the manager, who claimed never to have received my messages. Finally I called U-Haul corporate to complain about this franchise. Their policy, according to senior manager Vanessa B, is not to "step on the toes" of franchise owners and corporate would do absolutely nothing to help me resolve the situation with a manager that I now dont trust. Recommend if you use this franchise, set your expectations low and be prepared to be let down.

I usually dont write reviews, but I wanted to with the number of negative reviews. I had a positive experience getting a hitch installed on my car, from scheduling my appointment to getting the actual installation done 3 days later. I was nervous from the reviews, but U Haul is a reputable company and I would have been surprised to get the awful service stated in the reviews. Worth a shot for sure. I dropped the car off before work at 8 AM and the attendant took my key right away. They said it would be done in an hour but I just went to work and picked it up at lunch time around noon. The only negative I had was they said they would call me when the installation was completed or I would get a text message but that didnt come. I called before I left at 12 just to make sure it was done and it was completed, but it would have been nice to not have to call myself. The hitch looked very sturdy and Im looking forward to using it with a bike rack. The $212 seemed fair for the installation ($60) and the actual hitch was about $155 or so which was comparable or less to prices I saw when browsing online. I would recommend and had a positive experience.

If I could give this company and location zero stars, I would. I made a reservation on June 11th for a 15 foot truck on 7/1 from 1pm-7pm based on availability at this location. Yesterday (6.28) I received an email that I could pick the equipment up at 5:30pm-11:30pm which is unacceptable. Rhonda was extremely difficult to work with and should not be in a customer service role. As a returning customer, I am disgusted with the treatment of prospective employees by your company and I will no longer be using UHAUL for any services. Customers should not be able to make reservations and receive order confirmation emails if there is no equipment available during the timeframe that was specified. Not everyone is moving from a house-- some people have to work at the mercy of an apartment complex with specific times for moving. You all should be ashamed of yourselves for putting people through the chaos of finding a new rental truck company two days before they are slated to move.
