I first heard about the Auto Shop (owned by Tom) about a year ago via word of mouth. And so today, I thought Id put the Auto Shop to the test. I brought in my 2003 Nissan Altima--for 3 different reasons: 1. Suspected brakes to be worn down. 2. Car would cut off at stop light--thought it might be alternator or spark plugs. 3. Needed oil change. So, when I arrived to the Auto Shop, Tom took my car in to be look at right away. I told him what I needed to be looked at, and so I walked home and waited for him to call me (I live near by). I only waited about an hour and Tom called me to let me know that the brakes looked fine and were in great condition. He also told me that the reason, most likely, my car would occasionally cut off at stop lights, was due to a loose positive cable attached to the battery. That never happens...Auto Mechanics never tell the truth! Right? Well, Tom does. And if hes not sure what the issue is, he will admit it. As for the oil change. That rung up $29.99. AMAZING!!! All that work of trouble shooting and I only paid for the oil change. He could have easily charged me $800 just because I was suspicious of my brakes and motor. Speaking of oil changes, my last excursion to Jiffy Lube, about a month ago, ended up costing me extra. When I took my car there, I had them do the "42.99" oil change, and one of the gentlemen broke the oil stick off inside the tube. AND THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO ABOUT IT! So I drove home with my fingers crossed, hoping all the oil wouldnt spray out. As soon as I got home I went on-line and ordered a new dip stick and had to drill a really small hole in the broken dip stick, then cautiously hand-screwed a small screw into the hole and managed to pull the remains out. I got lucky. And when I went to that Shell station off route 7, near REI, to get my radiator replaced, I ended up paying $425. And Im still convinced to this day that it was never my radiator, it was a loose hose. My point is, if it seems like everywhere you turn in NOVA, auto mechanics are trying to steal the money right out of your pockets, and there is no one you can trust...then you are wrong. Tom, at the Auto Shop, will certainly take care of your car issue(s)--not your wallet.

Nope. I was pretty sure I wouldnt come back when I dropped my car off at 4:00 *with an appointment* for an oil change and he said 1.5 hours. Should never take that long, especially with an appointment. I tried to give them another chance by coming back to the shop 45 minutes early and sitting in the waiting room, hoping theyd run ahead of schedule. Nope, eerily, the guy calls my name exactly as the minute hand lands on 5:30. But then, as Im waiting outside for them to "pull my car around", I notice my car parallel parked up the street! A guy eventually comes out and sees me looking at my own damn car on Four Mile Run Dr--he says they dont have parking so they store the cars along the road. WTH. That tells me a couple things--one, the car was done a good deal before 5:30 if they had time to drive it up the street, parallel park it, walk back, and then get lost in other business such that Im waiting at least 10 minutes for them to have time to "pull it around". Two, for some unknown reason, maybe hitting metrics, they decided to keep me until exactly the time they said, 5:30, instead of, you know, telling me they were done early. Pro Tip--if my car is done, and Im sitting in your waiting room, you give me the keys. I never authorized any off-site parking or driving around the block for the hell of it. If you need the space in your garage, GREAT--thats why I came back 45 minutes early, to get my car out of there. What a dream it would have been to argue if somebody had dinged my car on Four Mile Run when it was conveniently no longer on your premises.

I brought my car in to Auto Stop when the check engine light came on and the steering wheel was shaking. They worked on my car and charged me $600 to fix the alignment. Two days later when I drove my car again for the first time it was still shaking and the check engine light was still on. Not only would they not give me a discount for the problem still being there they charged me $900 more dollars and let me know they hadnt found this second problem because "they hadnt test driven it" the day before! I should have known never to go back, but when my car broke down 3 weeks later I had it towed to their shop since it was the only place I had been since moving to the area. They told me I needed a whole new transmission on a car with less than 70,000 miles on it, refused to tell me how it had become broken, and then were so UNBELIEVABLY RUDE when I said I wanted to take my car to get a second opinion I had to ask to speak to the owner who was beyond unsympathetic. I dont know how their ratings on here are so high. I think the only way that is possible is if they employees do it themselves.

I dont usually write reviews, but I felt with them it was warranted. I had left my second car sitting for over 2 months. When I got back in, it wouldnt move. I had to have it towed to them, luckily for free by State Farm. They got the car and thirty minutes later I got a call from the Auto Stop guys. Basically, with my car sitting for an extended period of time, the rotors, drums and pads had become rusted. So when I got in to move it, it wouldnt. When the guy towed it, it must have freed it up a little. They put it on the lift and could move the wheels by hand. So they test drove it. Perfectly fine albeit a little loud. The guy even said "I could give you a $900 estimate for a brake job, but you really just need to drive it." When I arrived to pick it up, I asked him "How much do I owe you?" Expecting to have to pay for the hour basically of diagnosing and everything. He responded with "Nothing, we didnt do anything." I was shocked. I will definitely be bringing my cars back to them in the future. Everyone was super nice and no one was trying to rip me off. Highly recommend them.

We were visiting DC from out of town and our vehicle broke down right before we got to our hotel. We Googled shops in the area and Auto Stop was close to our hotel and had a high recommendation and rating. I took it in Monday morning and even though they were booked solid till Wednesday they still took our car in. They called that afternoon, told me the problem, gave me an estimate on time and cost. I authorized the repair. I was expecting a phone call per their estimate but they called us early. Walked down there this morning, they opened up early and took care of me before 8:00 this AM, plus they gave me a discount since Im a volunteer firefighter. Like another poster said, I wish I could take them with us back home. Thank you one again Auto Stop, you saved our vacation!!!
