I used Baird Automotive for about a decade (about 1998-2008) when I lived in Georgetown in DC. They did all the routine maintenance on my cars (such as lights, brakes, timing belts, etc.). They were completely reliable and reasonably and fairly priced. In 2008 I moved to the Eastern Shore of MD where I now live. Last month I was driving via DC to North Carolina when my car began to make an unusual noise. I first panicked but decided to take it to Baird to see if they would fit me in and find out if it was serious. I went there, encountered the same guy who used to manage my service (Mr. Baird?), who said I should wait a few minutes. I did, then he came back, and we went for a ride, with him driving my car. He came back to the garage, told me to wait in the waiting area and put the car on a lift. About 20 minutes later he came back and said the noise was not serious and I could continue the trip. When I asked him for a bill, he said it was on the house. I insisted and he resisted. I finally put two $20s on the counter and said to give them to the other mechanics for lunch. He laughed and said OK and I left. Now how many garages would do that for you when they know there was little or no chance for contunuing business from somebody? But that was consistent with the service I always had gotten from Baird,

I was really hoping to like this place as I live a few blocks away so its very convenient to get to. Made an appt for an oil change and dropped my car off. The service was prompt but it doesnt seem like they understand what an oil change is. On top of getting an oil change they "inspected" my car and replaced some burnt out bulbs and my air filter (both I had planned to change myself). On top of my oil change, new bulbs and filter, they charged $45 in labor to put in the bulbs and filter, making my total bill for what I explicitly told them was an oil change to over $100. When questioned why they did all of the extra work, w/out even a phone call to get my approval, they said I needed to say "oil change only" so theyd know not to look for other things that needed repair and that "next time theyd know." I guess Im lucky nothing major was wrong with my car cause who knows what they would have done on their own (and what my bill wouldve looked like) if there had been. There will definitely be no "next time" for me.

My husband and I are buying a car from a private party. I called Joey at Baird Automotive b/c of the positive reviews, and b/c they are close to the DMV. I was quite impressed with Joeys willingness to talk to me at length about my prospective car and the pre-purchase inspection he would be doing for us. Furthermore, he agreed to fit us in that day so we could close the deal on the car sooner than later. The price for the pre-purchase inspection is also $6-$10 less than other garages I called.. so that was just icing on the cake. Ill write another review after we can speak for his work, but so far so good! Thanks for giving me the peace of mind I was looking for Joey.

Terrible. Stay away. I picked up my car in worse condition than I dropped it off. The mechanic I dealt with had absolutely no automotive performance knowledge.. They told me it was ready so I picked it up and went for a drive. I noticed it felt really off and kind of erratic under throttle and then I broke down on the side of the highway. Got my car home on a tow truck and left a long voicemail for Baird Automotive. NO ONE GOT BACK TO ME! Left me in the dark. I also found out they charged me triple (yes thats right triple, not double) for the parts they installed.

Took in my Volvo 850 for a tuneup. Service was professional and inexpensive, with no surprises. This is one of the few mechanics in the area that wont take you for a ride (unlike those knuckleheads at Merchants). They even brought my car next door for an inspection. One tip: dont go in without a reservation. Theyre very popular in the area and thus will take a day or two to get to your car. Since their parking lot is small, I suspect they would prefer that you not leave your car there for that long.

The staff at Baird are fantastic. I had a very weird, difficult to diagnose problem with my car. The guys at Baird were relentless in figuring out the problem and getting my car back to me in tip top shape. And each step of the way they were transparent and explained exactly what they were doing, what they thought needed to be done, and how much it would cost. Cant thank them enough for their kindness and excellent work. They are fair, up front, and great mechanics. Thank you!!

I went to Bairds after walking out on a dealer that wanted 108 just to agree to look at my car. He got to the car in about a half hour after dropping it off. After about 20 mins he came back and gave all possible scenarios, but said my problem was likely caused by low power steering fluid, and then topped it off for *free*. I cannot say how glad I am to have found such a honest and helpful mechanic. Ill def. return for anything I could possibly need in the future.

Honest people. I was referred here by a friend, and took my car in because the warning light for my brakes came on. They let me know it was nothing serious, just that I had low tire pressure. This was after I had taken it to a different shop that had told me I needed new rear brakes, and it would cost over $350. Ill be a regular customer at Bairds from now on.

I went to Baird based on reviews on the net and the Washington Checkbook. I was very impressed by the questions they asked to get to the root of the problem, and their willingness to help an engaged customer who admittedly isnt a mechanic. Ill go to them again when I have the need, and encourage others as well.

After moving to Virginia from Florida, I realized it was time to finally get an inspection. I took my car to Baird Automotive after getting quotes from the dealer. Their prices were significantly better than the dealership and their work was quality. As a result they have a customer for as long as Im in the area!

Had my VW serviced here. Price was better than other independent VW shops (and much better than VW dealer). Also, talking to Joey, I could sense that hes an honest guy ... not someone trying to sell you other useless "repairs." Planning to go back for a brake work pretty soon.

Not only did Baird Automotive work us in on an emergency basis, but they also did the work quickly and explained exactly what the problem was (brake caliper issue.) They went the extra mile and checked all four brakes. We impressed and we will be return customers.
