The details about the quality of work and service on two specific jobs are below, but an important intangible I appreciate about Elden Street Service and Tire Center is that they have found and developed that sweet spot between technical competence and openness to customers. Most garages dont have both. They are either antiseptic hospital like places that treat you with a "Just the keys, please" diffidence, or friendly, folksy places which sometimes prove to be less than fully competent and/or whose tools you return to them because they were left in your car. The Elden Street service desk and waiting area prove this point. They are functional and neat. They dont cause you to wonder how much of your bill is going toward the customer area being a bit too luxurious and accessorized, but neither do you have to look for a clean place to sit or interrupt staff lunches by your presence. Jay, Edward, Michael, Keith, and others at Elden Street listen and communicate extremely well. They give you a chance to explain the context of your vehicles problem, give you an honest sense of next steps, call to tell you what they have done, what needs to be done, what they suggest doing in terms of priority and/or options, and how much it will cost. There is no sense of "take or leave it," and no sense that they have a list of goods or services they hope youll fall for and agree to do. (I recently severed all ties with one local garage because they tried to convince my wife her car needed $900 (!) of fluid changes. It needed none of them. None. Zero. All the fluids were relatively new and clean.) In short, Elden Street offers that rare combination of humane treatment and technical capability. I have a number of cars-- mostly old-- and take any combination of them to any combination of shops I patronize and/or trust. I will definitely be adding Elden Street Service and Tire Center to that list. I am very impressed with the service, communication, and honesty I have encountered with this garage and its people. Here is the actual work they did for me: I first took an old truck of mine there to get an alignment. After two shops were unable to align it, I asked around and Elden St was recommended. Elden St deserved the recommendation, as they did a great job. The truck drives straight for the first time in almost a year. Impressed, I asked if theyd take a look at a transmission leak in an old car of mine. They did, and told me I needed a speedometer assembly seal. The car is old enough to require searches they didnt have time to do, so if I found the seal theyd put it in for just the small cost of labor. I found it and took it to the shop. They called me during the day to say that it worked but that they found that whoever had installed the speedometer itself (that would be Montgomery Village Liberty) had ruined the gear by using incorrect seals and putting them in the wrong places. I could take the car and drive it, though. If and when I found the gear theyd only charge me for the work after they installed it and considered the job done. I found the gear on eBay for a very cheap price, took the car back, and they installed it. Three trips to Elden Street, three trips up the lift for my old car, and only one, very reasonable bill for service. Elden Street will now be my first choice for most things I cant or dont want to do on my fleet of aging vehicles.

Coincidentally driving by Elden Street Service and Tire Center and decided to pull in as I had heard a clicking noise on my left front tire and the dash light indicator noted low pressure in the tire. So I pulled in, and spoke with Brandon the Asst. Store Manager and he walked out a looked at my tire and began to chuckle. He said, "Oh I see exactly what is wrong." And I was bemused and he suggested I get in the car and turn the wheel all the way left so the tire was exposed from the wheel well. Huh. A huge screw with washer was jammed dead center in the tire. I asked him how much it would be to repair and could they do it now. He say it would be around $20.00. Well, I could afford that, poor student that I am. We chatted a bit and he said hed just do it himself since it was raining and wasnt a big deal to repair. I was interested to see how it is done and he showed me. The screw and washer were pulled out of the hole, the hole then symmetrically sized with what looked like an awl, and then a composite material loaded into the hole and trimmed to the outside layer of the tire. He filled the tire with air and was done. The dash light indicated on my later travels that the tire was doing fine. This whole deal took less then 10 minutes. We walked back in the office, and I asked what I owed, and he said, "Nothing. Just come back and see us again." So I am reviewing Elden Street Service and Tire Center. as a thank you. I was treated with respect, speed, accuracy and the price was reasonable (heh). I will use these guys again for our upcoming oil changes. I recommend them highly. Safe travels, everyone!

Major feedback: WAY TOO EXPENSIVE, although work done seems good so far. Dropped car off in afternoon on Friday due to problem with electric window. They called me later Friday afternoon to give me a diagnosis, and quote on parts and labor. Called me Saturday morning to tell me car was ready to pick up. During pick-up, I confirmed the part numbers that were replaced. Quick search of part numbers showed that a local dealership parts department sells the same parts for about $600 less than the amount I was charged. ( about a 300% markup? ) Also, when given the quote, I was told it might take a few days for everything to be completed, including the parts order and delivery. Taking the labor quote ($400) into account I accepted that. However seeing how quickly the car was ready, I wonder if the job took more than about 2.5 hours. If so, a $160 labor charge per hour is VERY HIGH. Normally, I wouldnt bother mentioning these very minor points however given the price I paid I would expect stellar service. The date/time on the dashboard wasnt set *(which leaves a yellow warning light on the dash). The "Battery has been disconnected" warning was still showing in the dashboard and I had to clear that in the car settings. The radio station was changed and the volume was turned up. When they called me to tell me the car was ready, I asked if the used parts could be returned with the car. They said of course, but when I showed up several hours later to pick up the car, the parts were in the shop and they didnt have anything ready to put the parts in.

When I decided to deviate from using the car dealership service center for maintenance of my 2007 Toyota Camry my intensions were to try on a few other service centers until I found one that fits, I tried Elden Street Service Center first only because I drove past one day and decided ok I need an oil change so Ill put them to the test, it was pretty much a walk-in and I walked into a pretty friendly environment, walk-ins were welcomed and I was pleased, the guys there were professional and super friendly and had me back in my car in less than an hour, fast forward to August 22nd just last night, my car died and before I even called my insurance company for roadside assistance I called Elden Street, I talked to Sung and even though they were closing in minutes he was super helpful and very patient, he gave me specific instructions for after hours drop off and everything worked out perfectly, Edward called me the very next morning to explain in detail what was going on with my car, he took the time to answer my questions and concerns without any hesitation and I just knew he was being very open and honest with me and I could not ask for a more professional and friendly consultation, thanks guys, I found the place for my car on the very first try and its a great fit, lucky me!
