I went to get my State car inspection here, after waiting for 30 minutes the Inspector comes in and tells me my rear tire failed inspection. Which is interesting because less than 2 days earlier I personally rotated my tires and checked them for wear, and while they are worn, they had between 3/32 and 4/32 tread depth. Also, the wear indicator bars, (at a height of 2/32) were not in contact with the road at any of the indicator bars. I told him I did not agree and asked him to show me the worn tire that failed the test. He wouldnt take the tire off the car, so I took my flashlight from my pocket and tried to make him look at the indicator bar, he looked but would not agree that the tire was safe by the standard set by the Virginia State Police. To make matters worse the Manager came out and took a look and basically said that its the Inspectors call. And would not counter the fact right before his eyes that the tire was in spec. Be wary, this is not an honest place for State Inspections.

Courteous; not friendly. Workmanship appears good. Reasonably quick turnaround time. (I needed a new clutch slave cylinder) I noticed afterwards that they tightened a belt I had been meaning to fix (thats not what it was in for). It is much appreciated. The prices are a bit high, but all of Mclean seems to be. They also double the price of the parts they use, but thats not uncommon in the industry. A new slave cylinder in the transmission was $850. On a later trip to them, they told me they dont work on carbureted engines and didnt know who did. I went two blocks down to Firestone and found that they will. They are also very friendly. Now, I have a new mechanic.

Its hard to find a trustworthy independent garage sometimes, my experience with the McLean Automotive Service Center was great. They were very careful with my brand new car, in for its first oil change and tire rotation. I provided them specific instructions about what the manual called for and they were more than happy to oblige (Im picky sometimes but they werent bothered by it at all). Car was in and out in 30 minutes and was just as clean afterwards as before (no greasy fingerprints or anything like that). I plan to continue going to them and will update my review if needed.

We have been taking our cars to McLean Service Center for 30 years. Cars ranging from Buicks to BMWs. These guys are as honest as they come. If they can do the work our cars need, they do it quickly and charge a reasonable amount of money. If they cannot do the work, they tell us where to take the car for the proper service. They seem to have a steady flow of business from long time customers who are fiercely loyal. You can not go wrong taking your car to McLean Service Center.
