I recently went to American Lock & Key to get a key made, that I couldnt get done at Lowes or Pleasant Hardware. From the start, they had a hard time trying to find the key. They had to pull out a key book to help them. My one key request gained the attention of the whole office, as everyone was trying to find the key. Another guy made a key for me, not the original guy who was helping me. I examined the key before I left and the lady at the front desk insured that it still should work, even though it appeared to be off. I went home and tried it, but it didnt work. I came back later that evening, after I found another place closer to my house to get the key made correctly, and requested a refund, due to the fact that they cut the key wrong. Again, my request gained the attention of the entire office, as everyone wanted to look at the key I had made and see how it was possible. One guy in particular looked at the key and then looked in the key book, and said that key isnt even listed in his book. That is probably one reason why they couldnt make it in the first place. Then this particular guy said something that rubbed me the wrong way. He said, usually we dont guarantee our keys. I thought to myself, WHAT?!?!?! How dont you guarantee your keys? If you cant cut a key correctly, you need to give a refund or dont be in the key making business, PERIOD. I got my refund and left. I would not recommend this place. That comment rubbed me the wrong way.

This is a great business to contact if you have any I MEAN ANY question about how to change or remove a lock even a digital lock. I had some questions about removing my automated door lock from the town home I live in, and replacing it with the old standard lock that came with the town home when I moved in. The operator that answered immediately addressed my needs and transferred me to the manager. He gave me his personal cell number to send him pictures of the lock so he could do some research which I thought was a great touch. He called me back and told me that if I was handy I could actually change the lock myself and wouldnt need a lock smith and he didnt want me to spend the extra money if I could do it myself. He gave me some tips and I was so successful! I appreciate a business who isnt always out for your money, but can put the money aside and just help a customer. Superb experience!!

Recently purchased a used Toyota Tacoma, which has a lock on the tailgate. The used car dealer didnt have a key available for that lock. After the tailgate locked on me twice and having to take the whole thing apart to unlock it manually, I got fed up enough to do something about it. I took my truck to American Lock & Key and they were able to "sculpt" a key in about an hour based on my existing lock, which blew my mind. From that key, they cut me two keys to take home. Was about a third of the price of replacing the whole lock system. John and Sam there were both incredibly friendly, professional and knowledgeable. I will surely be a repeat customer and would highly recommend these guys for any locksmith needs, whether it be for your home, your car, or your business. (have already recommended them to two of my coworkers). Also, their newly renovated facility is very nice!

I have found my new locksmith! I recently purchased a new transponder key for my vehicle from Amazon, I took it to Lowes, Home Depot and Pleasants (Ace) hardware stores to have it cut. To my frustration and disappointment neither of these establishments would cut the key for being afraid to mess it up (imagine that). I took the key to American Lock & Key and those guys cut that thing likety split and I mean Likety Split! I handed the lady the Key and went to the sitting room, which was less than a few feet from the counter, to sit down and before I could literally put my buns into the chair, They Were Finished! I have already ordered a second key for my other vehicle and will be going there as soon as it arrives to have it cut! This is an awesome place and will be patronizing with all of my friends this place from now on!!!!

Horrible company - do not trust. Called them for re-key - we gave complete detailed information on lock configuration - they quoted $190, daytime service. Technician gets there hours late and says "job will be over $400". I ask to honor original quote. I offer $250. Guy gets rude and leaves. I called owner - no help - didnt care what the original estimate was. After waiting all afternoon for American Lock, they left us stranded at 6pm with an unsecure apartment. I called another locksmith who came in 90 minutes, evening rates, and he charged $150 for the same work. Only took him 45 minutes once on-site. I consider it despicable business practices by American Lock of giving a quote, doubling the cost when they get there, and leaving you if you dont pay their excessive rates.

I used to have problems getting keys copied in RVA!! I tried all the usual retail places, but to no avail. Their keys never worked the 1st time, and when they did they required a lot of fiddling around with the key in the lock. And continuing to have to go back a 2nd and/or 3rd time is definitely not convenient!! Then I found these folks & I ALWAYS go there now! Their equipment is just superior, and they seem to have a MUCH higher skill level and knowledge of keys/locks than other places. They even stayed a little past 5 for me one time when I called one time!! You all are the greatest!!

I called American Lock & Key because I needed a part for a lock. I spoke with Mike on the phone and he confirmed they had the part. Once I arrived, he made sure that the part was indeed the correct replacement item. In addition, he did a great job explaining the differences in consumer grade vs higher security locks so when I replace my door, I think Ill upgrade to something more secure. One phone call and a quick visit to the shop fixed my problem and it was clear that the team there knows their stuff so five stars for American Lock & Key.

The Maid Crew - RVA

This local, family run biz is awesome. Found out we can get keys for our company fleet of cars for half the price the dealer would charge if we ever lose any. Also, they just cut brand new factory keys for our oldest car (2001 Toyota Echo) and lubricated the trunk keyhole. With new keys and lubrication, we can now access our trunk. Yay! Thanks American Lock & Key! I appreciate the quick, knowledgable, down to earth, awesome customer service! Well see you again soon!

I was about to travel and lost the key to my roof carrier, within 30 minutes they found the key code and made me new key. SEARS said it would take 8 days to get a new one and another locksmith offered to drill the lock off but couldnt replace with a new lock. American Lock & Key proved to be knowledgeable, convenient, courteous, professional, and affordable. They are so good that another locksmith recommended me to them. AWESOME service and with a smile!
