I should start this by saying I am completely cynical when it comes to auto repair places. I have been working for a courier company for about 5 years. I drive insane miles, usually over 150k a year. I am “self-employed” meaning any car issues are my problem, my expense, and no one wants to hear why I can’t do my job. So when I say I have dealt with many auto repair places the phrase “more than any human should” comes to mind. I have to say Elliot Tires took me completely off guard in an impressive way. I had 2 wheel bearings replaced at Elliot’s both were done very quickly at the exact price they quoted. Then just last week I had them replace my engine. I think my old engine committed suicide because of the horrific conditions I subjected it to. Heh Well I have had the car back 2 days now and already have put over 1000 miles on it (I’m trying to teach the new engine who’s the boss, lol). It is running beautifully. The things that made Elliot Tires stand out as exceptional: 1. The speed they get things done: Both the bearings were done separately and both were done in 20 minutes while I waited. As far as the engine replacement they had it finished in 4 days. 2. The honesty: As I said I have been to many auto mechanics and most have an issue being completely honest. They tend to try and upsell and recommend services you don’t really need. These guys recommended things that made them less money because they thought that was the best course for me. 3. Actual Caring: The one thing I never find but was lucky enough to find here is something you can’t really fake. They ended up finding a used motor that was basically brand new, we got very lucky. The thing that really struck me was the excitement and happiness I saw in them as things came together. You would have sworn this was their own vehicle. There was a pride in the job they did. It showed in every step of this entire process. As I said at the beginning of this I walked in a cynic, I walked out dumbfounded. I didn’t realize that auto shops like this existed. If you have half of the luck I did here you will be very happy using Elliot’s Tires. Give them a shot, I think you will be pleasantly surprised. Steve UPDATE 10-20-12 I figured we are due for an update. I was the cynical guy who had his engine replaced, and drives all the time. Well I just passed 90,000 miles on the new engine and haven’t had the slightest problem with it. I have had Elliot’s do all the basic maintenance and as always, they have been great. I figured I should repost with an update. It’s one thing to say they are great right after work is done, it’s another to still be happy after you have toughly had a chance to test what they did. I also tried their “AMSoil” product. It’s an oil and filter they sell that will let you go 15k miles instead of the 5k my car suggests between oil changes. This one had me a little worried to be honest. The cost works out about the same as 3 oil changes so that wasn’t a factor. But for me and how many miles I drive, the difference in convenience means me having to come in for service every other week, or every 5 weeks, and that makes life a lot easier. So far the AMSoil seems to be doing great. I know a 90,000 mile test would be enough for most people that is why I mentioned it. I’m hoping to be here typing it’s praises at 290k, and then I will swear by it. But for now so far so good. (knock on wood heh) I knew before that Elliot’s Tire’s caring professional service was stunning; it pleases me to realize that their workmanship is of the same caliber. Give them a shot, I think you will be pleased. Steve

I cant say enough good things about the crew at Elliot Tire. Jay is an amazing and exceptional business owner. He truly does care about all the people that walk through his door. Weve been clients of his for many years and they feel like extended family to us. Above all, they are honest and trustworthy. I recommend his shop to everyone I meet, and Im not one to recommend things lightly. They do great work and are always accommodating. Love you guys! Youll always have 5+ stars in our book! Felicia & Randy Nicholson Didnt realize that when I did my original review that I wasnt signed into Google. Heres my original review from about 5 yrs ago: My husband and I have been taking our cars (and family members cars as well) to Jay for 3+ years now, and neither of us could imagine going anywhere else. The staff there is very professional, courteous and HONEST. Ive always been skeptical about car repair shops because you hear so many stories about people getting ripped off or swindled in some way, but not at Elliott Tire. After going through several different shops, mechanics, and various repair places, Elliott Tire is the best, hands down. Jay has always been incredibly accommodating when weve needed something done quickly, and he doesnt try to sell you a bunch of stuff that you dont need (except with my husband - boys and their toys... haha j/k Jay!). Seriously, if youre looking for excellent work and great service, this is the place to go. Very honest, dependable, and competitive prices. I cant say enough good things about them. We love you guys!

I do a lot of work on my cars myself, so I rarely have needed a mechanic shop since moving to Richmond. I have tried a few shops in the west end for inspections and tires and such, and have not been impressed, and thus have been looking for a really good and honest shop. I was excited to see the positive reviews of Elliott Auto, and I am due for an inspection so I thought I would give them a shot. I called Elliott Auto to see when I could get an inspection, and was told by Chris that they were really slow at the moment, and if I wanted to bring it on by then (my lunch break) that they could do it while I waited. I head out, arriving about 40 minutes later. I was then told they would not be able to inspect my vehicle, and I would need to leave it there and they may get to it by the end of the day. Needless to say, since I hadnt planned to drop it off, I couldnt, and essentially spent my lunch break in which I may have been able to get it inspected elsewhere, and accomplished nothing. Im not upset they couldnt inspect the vehicle, I am upset and believe it is very poor customer service to tell the customer one thing, only to say something else once im there. Maybe the actual work they do is great, but if I feel lied to from the beginning, it would be hard to trust the work.

You know that feeling you get when you leave your car with a shop? Usually it is fear and trepidation, no matter how long youve been dealing with them. And if its not fear and trepidation, its at least a gnawing feeling in the pit of your stomach - at least a far-off dread. And of course you can remember all the shady circumstances in your past dealings with mechanics - the dirty tricks - the slight of hand - or even the in your face nastiness. Rarely do you have a great experience. I say all this because I swear to you that you will never experience any of the above at Elliott Tire. I have been going there for about 7 years and they have always taken care of me - hell - SAVED MY LIFE MANY TIMES. Jay is the owner and he and his crew are the nicest and most professional people I have ever come across. You can take that to the bank. It must be mentioned that one time I saw them help out an old man who came in and didnt have any money and was stranded. Next time you need something done to your car its worth a drive across town - try them. I moved to the far West End and I still take my truck and my work vehicle there - I wouldnt think of going anywhere else. Chris Berndt, Short Pump, Richmond, VA
