I tried this salon because I just recently moved to Belltown from Kirkland. I saw a stylist named Phillip. It was the worst and most uncomfortable experience ever. The man is obviously gay, and looked professional and I was told he was a color educator. So I felt comfortable in making such a drastic hair color change. I was blonde & wanted to go bright red & even brought in pictures of the color I wanted (like Bree from Desperate Housewives). He kept making flirtatious comments to me, and I was laughing because I thought he was gay. As my time with this man progressed, the flirtatious comments got worse. I just kept telling myself, he is obviously gay, and I tried to not pay attention to it. Then I think I felt his privates on my arm as he shampooed me, and I felt like I was going to die. I kept trying to breathe, and say that this man was gay, and out of shock, I was just kind of frozen. Then we went back to the mirror and I saw my wet hair and it just got worse from there. I was shocked to see what happened to my hair, it was a horrible shade of coppery brass. I thought his comments would stop and the color would look better once he dried my hair. It just got worse, he asked me if I had a "man", and it was obvious that he was hitting on me. It was so awkward, an obviously or maybe not, a gay man, saying really inappropriate things to me. I walked out of there with the weirdest old lady shade of bronze. I went back TWICE to have it corrected on his days off, I never wanted to see that man again, after what happened, and now have dark brown hair, no red to it at all. All 3 stylists didnt seem to have a clue about what color to use for bright red hair. At least the other 2 stylists were female and not hitting on me, I felt safer being with the 2 stylists that were trying to help correct it. The last time I came in, I was told a senior stylist would be there to supervise the color, which made me feel safer, because of what happened. My nice shiny hair is now so damaged I can hardly style it, and may have to get it all cut off. I now have to go to another salon to get this ugly drab brown out of my hair, and have someone else fix all of the damage. I wouldnt have left this review, but I felt like after the comments, and then the experience while he was washing my hair, was just something I had to share. It was shocking, and I still feel very weird about the whole thing, not to mention, I have the worst hair color, and my shiny hair is now dull and damaged to the point where I think I may have to get it all cut off, which I just spent so long growing from a short blonde cut. I guess I have to have short brown hair now, unless there is a miracle worker out there that can help me salvage my hair.

I -- a client of Philips for a year and a half -- am baffled and completely offended by the previous review, because I have never witnessed anything other than consummate professionalism from him. I live in West Seattle, and was a client of Philips at Shanti Salon. Shanti called me a month or so ago and said he was no longer there, but his replacement had almost two decades of experience and was equally skilled and professional. I didnt know where Philip had gone and needed a trim, so I went. For the service I have come to expect from an Aveda salon and Shanti, I was extremely disappointed by their hiring choice, and received the WORST haircut of my life. Fortunately, I was able to find Philip online, and he fixed my hair like a pro. I am proud and excited to bop about Seattle again (I had been wearing hats since my Shanti visit)! All of the other team members I encountered at Etherea were polite and courteous, making the little trek from West Seattle a worthwhile "moms pampering session." I am looking forward to another visit to Etherea...

A great group of stylists work in this salon. They can do everything you could want done to your hair including cut and color. These stylists keep up with the latest techniques through a variety of classes and training. They are led by Lisa Vann, an internationally known stylist and instructor specializing in texture. This salon contributes their time and talent to a lot of well-known events such as New York Fashion Week, the Oscars, Seattle Fashion Week, celebrities at local events and lots more. This alone should give you confidence in this salon. I would feel good with any of the stylists doing my hair. Also, this is an Aveda salon. They use only Aveda products so your entire salon experience starts with the beautiful clean smells you get upon entering the salon. They also have a number of great skin care lines and the expertise to advise you on the Aveda products.

I was in Seattle for a day trip and decided to drop in to Van Edge Salon for a quick trim and conditioning treatment. They were able to fit me in as a walk-in and Dan was my stylist. I told him I like my hair natural, and that I did not want a lot of length taken off, but I needed the ends cleaned up (pretty badly). He listened to what I wanted, cut my hair exactly as wed discussed and he was professional and friendly. It is hard to find a stylist who really listens and gives you what you want. Dan did just that! I live more than an hour away but Id be happy to drive that distance for a good cut again. The salon staff and Dan were both wonderful!

I had a fantastic experience at this salon . Being a recent transplant from NYC , I was desperately looking for a good hair salon . Having read positive reviews on yelp I booked an appointment with Christopher who I must say was extremely knowledgeable in his craft . He gave me good advice on hair color and maintenance without being preachy in any way . I am a creature of habit and I wanted a simple layered look that he enhanced . I love the way my hair looks and feels ! Definitely coming back !! Also the front desk and the staff were super friendly and made the whole experience great - The salon made the "seattle freeze" thaw for me!

Christopher is fabulous!!! He is so personable and he is just the best. Love how he spends the time to get to know you and does a great job making sure you know exactly how to do what he does to style your hair. He really understands that we want to know how to to it too!! Debra was wonderful as a makeup artist! She is so fun and bubbly. I truly felt so beautiful when she was done with me! Will definitely recommend this salon to family and friends! They are great, check them out!!!

Absolutely love this salon. I have been coming here for years and plan to do so for the forseeable future. I always go to Dan who is not only very talented, but also super friendly and hilarious. He always does a fantastic job on my hair and I always enjoy sitting with him while he does so. Everyone who works here is very nice, they play great music, use great products, and there is a lot of positive energy. I highly recommend coming here for any of their services.
