In short: The service in VA was excellent and clean. The service in Tacoma, WA was not even close. Black putty on the ground around our cube cost me over $200 in cleaning my living room furniture alone! I tried to make a claim and not one person seemed willing to help me. I received no help from this company. The WHOLE story: Originally, I was very pleased with our agreement with UPACK. My husband is very capable of moving things once I pack them so this was a good fit for us. We made our reservation online. After finding a better price with another company, I called to cancel but UPACK worked out an even better price. The drop off location in Manassas, VA was excellent. They were very friendly, helpful, and professional. They placed our UPACK cube in the front parking lot. The area was clean and spacious enough to move our things out of a truck and into the cube without limitation. However, upon arrival in Tacoma, I was met with completely different circumstances. Our cube was in the back of this shipping company. The smell was very strong and gave the four of us headaches (it may have been engines or some machinery). The cube was between another larger trailer and a lane for trucks/lifts to drive through (barely room to park near the cube). The entire time we were Moving our stuff there were larger trucks and machines working around us (safety?!?). We just wanted to get done and out of there. We failed to notice some small globs of black stuff (putty, tar, oil, who knows!) around the cube. The ground was not the cleanest so it camouflaged the globs. After moving out a third of our things, our shoes had found the globs and spread them around everywhere. That is when we noticed. As we took inventory of what has black steaks on it, we found boxes, dressers, and every piece of my living room set (sofa, loveseat, ottoman) were stained. What could we do but finish! I made several attempts to email (with photos) and call the company for help in the repairs. I believe that they put a regular customer in a freight location and expected me to know what hazards to expect. I though they should reimburse me for the damage. The contract I signed into said I was responsible for damage done while in transit. This type of damage was not addressed. However, to be fair, I was only asking them to split the cost with me. They should have placed us in a cleaner safer location and I should have asked them to move our cube the moment we got there (the smell and traffic should have been enough, even without noticing the globs). No restitution was made and some people I spoke with laughed at the suggestion. I am undecided if I will use this company again. I do not know what each terminal looks like, the one in Manassas, VA or the one in Tacoma, WA.

Absolutely terrific experience. The entire process was easy and well managed from UPacks end. They made it a very smooth process and took care of everything. They also kept regular contact with us via email and texting on the cell, since of course our land line phone was no longer a viable method of communication. We used a 28 foot truck and our contact with Upack talked me through when to get the empty truck delivered at our old place, so the timing would be workable at the destination. They then sent me a notice via text that all of the paper work could be printed up from the web site. It was very well organized into categories making instructions, phone numbers and dates very easy to find. The drivers kept in touch with us and the trucks showed up absolutely on time The drivers were very helpful and polite. The driver at the end we were moving from was concerned we were not going to have help to load the truck. We assured him we would. Very thoughtful. He explained the ramp and bulk head and how everything worked. The driver at the destination end was equally friendly and helpful and called us when he was on his way. We met him in town and we led him in to make it easier for him. (I always think of the movie Funny Farm, and would hate to do that to a truck driver.) The truck did arrive at the destination without its ramp. It disappeared into the Twilight Zone I guess. This was not going to work since the truck is high and unloading is very difficult without it. I called the main office, she directed me to the local hub 2 hours away and they had a ramp out to us by 10:30 the next day, just in time for our unloading crew. This meant an extra trip for them out to us to deliver the ramp. Wow. Yes, the ramp should have been in the truck, but stuff happens and they dealt with it in a fast, successful and very friendly manner. Our belongings arrived in excellent condition and we are extremely satisfied with the UPack method of moving. We have moved 3 times in the last 5 years and have moved in different ways. Upack made it the easiest. most organized and most affordable way to get the job done. Hopefully we wont have to move again, but if so I would definitely use Upack again. The only thing that was a little odd, was we were moving from Washington State to Idaho, north of Boise. Our truck went from Washington to Salt Lake, Utah (through Boise) then back up to Boise and on to our new home. They have a hub in Boise, so the trip down to Salt Lake seemed a bit over the top. lol

U-Pack was OUTSTANDING!! We moved from Tacoma, WA to a small town in Oregon. My first guess was they didnt deliver to towns as small as this. I was wrong. OK... we had been living in the same house in Tacoma for 32 years. Having not moved for so long, we had accumulated a lot of "stuff". After a perfect on time delivery of the trailer, putting it exactly where we wanted, we started loading. 28 feet long, 9 feet high and 8 feet across. We packed it floor to ceiling!! When it was about 3/4 full, we came to the realization that everything wasnt going to fit!! So, on a Friday afternoon around 2:00, I called to see if we could get a second trailer. It was delivered by 6:00 that night!! Well, we didnt need to pack the second trailer floor to ceiling, but we did fill most of it. Pickup of both trailers was a breeze. They say 5-7 business days for delivery. They called two days later to ask if we were ready for delivery. We werent even there yet ourselves. They delivered the "B" trailer we had added first, at our request, as it had most of our furniture in it. As soon as we got it emptied, we called to get the second trailer. They exchanged them the next day. Finally, after emptying the "A", original, trailer, they picked it up the next day after we called. As much stuff as we had, I cant imagine what a traditional mover would have charged us. The total cost for us was around $2400, for TWO trailers delivered to door!!! It was a lot of work filling and emptying the trailers, but I can highly recommend U-Pack for your next move!! I dont know that it works as well all across the country, but between the representatives in Arkansas that set up the move, the ABF folks in Tacoma and Peninsula Trucking in Portland, it worked out almost perfectly!! 5 stars, plus!!!
