Berkeley Police Department says: “The facility is plagued by break in and thefts. I see several reports there a week. The management is of little help and their video surveillance is of poor quality.” I arrived at my unit on 9/30/14 to find an unfamiliar lock on my unit. When I go to the office to inquire, I am told “Oh yes, that’s been happening. Someone’s been cutting off locks and replacing them with their own.”. What? Did you notify the other tenants? “Hey, we can’t communicate with ALL of our tenants.” Really? Pretty sure that’s exactly what you do every month. “Well we don’t want to scare all our tenants.” I think you mean you don’t want to get the reputation you deserve, which is an unsecured facility rife with theft. So they cut the lock off and sure enough, my unit has been ransacked. $10k worth of equipment, gone. Police report filed. The detective at Berkeley PD had this to say, quoting from his email “The facility is plagued by break in and thefts there. I see several reports there a week. The management is of little help and their video surveillance is of poor quality.” In short, theft is rampant here and the management is unwilling to take steps approaching that of even the most basic of neighborhood watches. Their security is a facade. Over the course of two days, I witnessed the gates kept wide open and individuals on bicycles, on foot, and in vehicles, flowing through unchecked. They have no video monitoring inside the buildings so they can’t be help accountable for knowing when your unit is being robbed. Based on evidence at the scene, I know that my items left via bicycle over multiple trips, right past the windows of the office, possibly over the course of weeks. The staff inside are blissfully apathetic. The amount of negligence at this facility borders on criminal collusion, if not outright.

When I had to put most of my possessions in storage this summer, I expected it to be a really complicated process. Packing the stuff was certainly complicated, but the friendly, competent staff at Extra Space Storage in Berkeley made the moving process much easier than it could otherwise have been. They quickly found me a comfortable, reasonably priced storage locker, sold me a lock and inexpensive insurance* to go with it, and did so with flair. I like the forklift that carried all my things up to the second floor. The storage area is relatively clean and neat, although there is some dust around. Im not sure why theres an ominous "BEWARE OF POISON" sticker on the inside of my storage locker door; I decided I didnt want to know. Anyway, I was pleased by my experience and would recommend the Berkeley Extra Space. *(I could wish that the insurance covered earthquake risk, but if the earthquake hits while my stuffs still in storage, I doubt my stuff will survive the experience. The only part of the storage experience that worried me was the buildings structural integrity.)

My husband and I went in on a Friday late morning to confirm our reservation we made a week earlier. Vahlentine Williams was our sales associate whom assisted us. WE told him we would be back by 6:00 pm to complete the paper work and get our key! At exactly 6;00 pm,my husband and I arrived to extra space,just as everyone was about to leave for the evening. We asked Vahlentine if he would "please" do our paperwork so we can begin to move from our home to the unit. Without hesitation and a beautiful smile on his face......he took one half hour of his time and we left with a key. We want to thank Vahlentine for his selfless time and happy demeanor to make this happen for us,,,,since it was an urgency for us move. I wish for your employer to know what an asset you are to their company. We highly recommend anyone to use extra space storage.......you will be happy you did so! We also extend our apology for not sending this review in sooner......we were at a 3 day Buddhist event and had no computer access! SO.......THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts!! By far my best experience with a storage facility ever! My adult children and I have rented storage space from this facility for about the last 5 years. We have always received friendly, courteous service, and the price for the space is reasonable. I moved out of the area and recently moved back and Mr. Wonderful (Ron) went above and beyond to help me get into a storage unit there. I had called from out of state and had asked if I could set my boxes and luggage in the lobby when I arrived to fill out the initial paperwork since Id be taking a cab from the train station and didnt want the meter running in the taxi. He asked me when my train was arriving and offered to meet me at the station to help me get my boxes and luggage to Extra Space. In the morning I arrived he was at the station. I greatly appreciated his help and he even got me a Peets coffee when he stopped to get his morning coffee on our way back to Extra Space. Exceptional, and outstanding customer service!! Would highly recommend!!

Quite honestly, the reason I decided to rent at Extra Space Storage was due to Jamie. When I was shopping around, I kept remembering my phone conversation with Jamie and how kind she was. I was also impressed in that she followed up with one courtesy call, to make sure she would make herself and the staff available to help make for an easy transition, from my other storage units. I found other storage units to pester and hound me, reluctantly trying to attain my business. When I came in for an orientation, the staff, inclusive Jamie, made my move virtually effortless. At current, I have been here for three months and I feel very secure and quite comfortable every time I come in and out. The facility is actually a delight during an otherwise tideal task. Ron, Kesha and the rest of the team at Extra Space Storage were amazing! I needed a place to store my belongings as I moved from NY to CA. I first went to the competitor Public Storage down the street and was told about the units they had and then asked "Are you going to pay for it because I am closing down the office to go on my lunch break." Thats fine, but she was just rude. I went outside of the Public Storage and called Extra Space Storage and they were so friendly and helpful. Ron agreed to oversee my storage unit while the movers were moving my belongings in as I would not be there for the move in. They also agreed to accept mail and packages for me to put into the unit! I was so impressed by them and how nice they were. I would definitely recommend them over the others in the area.

the people who work at this self storage place are always friendly and helpful. its convenient not only because it is close by to home, but because they were able to provide us with a ground floor space ~ big enough for what we needed ~ that does not take a lot of carrying/driving around to put our things in storage. they were kind enough to gift us a great lock and worked with us on continued discounts (beyond the first month free) as well as easy billing. i was hesitant to get a storage space due to concerns about safety and how much we would use it ~ but it has been a great way to keep our extra stuff safe and out of the way while we prepare for a remodel. it is very clean, too... i highly recommend this company and especially this location!
