Charter Cable is by far the absolute worse cable experience I have had in my entire life. I moved downtown Long Beach from Atlanta where I had AT&T UVerse. I was told to bring my UVerse box because I could set everything up when I moved to Cali. Unfortunately, when I made it, I discovered that I could not set up U-Verse in this area and the only cable company I could use was Charter. So, now I am forced. Taking it in stride, though I was pissed because I loved the service of AT&T U-Verse, the cable quality and various options as well as the prices. At any rate, the price was promotional that included cable, internet, and phone to have a decent monthly rate. Horrible from beginning to now. For starters, the DVR sucks hard. You can ONLY record two shows at one time and you must be watching one of the two or have your TV off all together otherwise the system will switch whatever program you are watching to one of the recorded show stations. What is this? AT&T lets you record multiple programs at a time and you can also be watching a completely different channel in the meantime, otherwise whats the points. Secondly, the DVR only lets you store a very small amount of movies and shows in your library, so space is super limited. Third, when the DVR records a show and you watch it later, you can be sure that it only picks up the recording right at the very start of the show and not a minute sooner and cuts off right before the show is over most of the time. You cannot see the previews for next time 90% of the time and this is just on 30 minute to an hour shows on primetime or cable programming.. Most special programs like award shows and the like are cut off long before theyre over. What the heck is this crap. I feel stuck and very unhappy and because there are no alternatives, I tolerate it. To make matters worse, after the first year, they had the nerve to increase the prices substantially. Paying $150 per month for garbage is insane. The internet barely works and continues to kick off users when I have any company--even if it is just one other person. The customer service is typically good, however. But, overall, as it pertains to the actual Charter cable and internet experience...it is 100% awful, antiquated, and waaaaay below its competitors. Shame on you Charter. Step up your game. This is so bad that I am even considering canceling the service altogether and having no service. Online school is one of the main things that keeps me with them....Bad Charter Bad!!!!!!

...but theyre not great either. I havent had quite the same consistent problems that others have reported there, but there are undeniably connection stability issues and they tend to be the product of poorly done infrastructures they set up in the area. Help is usually borderline useless due to this, since the technicians...as nice as they usually are (although there was one real dud who, if I didnt know more than the average guy about electronics, would have probably made my problem worse and the man was generally boorish and dismissive to boot.) tend to obviously be trained to either replace your modem, or look at the wiring. To be fair, theres not much more they can do but the point is that most of the problems, at least from my experience, come server side. Time Warner certainly had its share of quirks, but at least they seemed to fix and update their infrastructure every now and again. Charter seems to be in this perpetual state of denial, giving excuses about how the area (Glendale in my case) has a lot of old wiring etc. Im sorry but if internet can be fast as hell and capable of withstanding snowstorms in hundred year old areas of New York City I find it hard to believe a suburb like Glendale cant get their act together. Ranting aside, their cables alright but nothing none of the others dont have...with much prettier interfaces, phone system is decent though I got a rather large amount of telemarketing calls, more than usual so I had to Do-Not-Call list myself, and all and all theyre not terrible if theyre your only option...which curiously seems to be the case a lot of the time...but if you have alternatives youre probably best taking them. I know I will the moment I get the first chance. I think its just a subpar service that somehow seems to get lucky often and get exclusive access to entire areas.

I have had outstanding service with Charter Communications going on six years. They have made any and every concession possible - helping me through three surgeries by making adjustments in my services/billing. Their home office on San Fernando is a joy - their customer service people make quick work of any lines - and theyre customer-savvy and friendly. We take for granted all of the things that Charter does - here you read review after review of failed moments. Because all of the success weve had from Charter is an expectation - we expect that - we expect 100 percent home runs - We tolerate nothing less than perfection from Charter. Theres Tim in St. Louis - one of most savvy techs on the planet - willingly helping you through the most complicated digital issue - the guy is just incredible. Stayed-over so he could finish my issue - no overtime he just didnt wish to pass it along to a newb or novice. Theres Tims supervisor (Doug) in St. Louis clearing Tim to continue working - not worried about the clock - just wanting a customer helped/taken care of. Theres Sabrina, Customer service manager/supervisor on San Fernando - a line of 20 people means 12 are there waiting on Sabrina such is her excellence/attitude. I have nothing but good things to say about Charter Communications. Theyve gone over and beyond so-many-times that Id never leave no matter how enticing an AT&T or Time Warner offer is. Thanks for listening. Thanks Charter, for all youve done these last six years.

Seriously this place is awful! A few months ago our Internet was acting all weird so we called them up and they came down to "fix" it. It ended up being worse so that we couldnt use it at all! We called them again and they rebooted it. Yet it stillll doesnt work. I can never use the wifi to connect to my phone or out laptop it only works for the desktop. And the cable Is also pretty lame. They over charge you even though they barely give any good channels. Unless you want to pay extra. And whenever we try watching something on demand the cable box starts rebooting itself or the tv just freezes so we have to unplug then replug it 5 times until it works. Im not exagerating! And one of the cable boxs always freezes on the higher channels. We plan on calling them again soon but eventually we want to switch to another carrier. Charter just doesnt work out. I say dont get it. Im sure you have more important things to do than constantly worry about whether your Internet will work or not or if you can watch you favorite show without you television freezes at the climax of it.
