I had a storage unit here for about 3 years and have two friends with 2 units as well. When I got the unit, it was a very good deal. They still have pretty good intro deals for the area, but I was about to have my 4th or 5th? rate increase before I left. Granted at my 3rd increase it was still market rate, but yikes. If no one else mentioned it, during the past 2 years, they have been updating their units, new sliding, elevators for some wings etc.. The update is fine, but this was in the mist of very bad economy and then the increases... before updating the units were fine, so I wasnt happy to be funding the updates at that time. I would usually be at the storage unit at least once week, so the following should be accurate. During move- in / 1st month, they generally make sure to keep 1-2 carts near your unit in the elevator. That is pretty good, but carts get hard to find after that (especially if you have no new neighbors). In the past 9 months, I havent seen a cart in my elevator. I had to search nearby elevators, usually about 3-5 elevators, my record was 8 though. This is towards the front by the office, if you’re wondering. Elevators themselves make a lot of noise but generally work fine, one of my friends had problems with her elevator for about a month though. If it was during business hours, the handyman would always come by and fix it quickly. Units themselves aren’t anything special. Many units are non-standard sizes though, so measure it, if you’ve calculated the exact space you need. Usually it works it your favor, but check. I saw a unit with a slanted (low) roof, which definitely wasn’t good. Some of roofs in updated wings have nails sticking through, so be careful about clearance (or your head). Hallways are generally clean, but if someone makes a mess (ash from bbq, black stuff, etc.), don’t expect it to get cleared too quickly, takes them a few weeks. Hope this gives you a good idea of the place. I might rent there again, but I’d definitely be checking my options.

Great storage facility!! The Ups: The gate accessibility and times are good. The lighting in the buildings are also good, and i never had any issues with my storage units - they came clean and doors functioned. Initially, i got a storage unit here to store my dorm goods for the summer time. After i was shown a few different available units, i started with a 4x6 (or something like that. It was double doors and very accessible, right next to the elevator, too!!!). The price was very affordable for my starving student days. Then after moving out stuff, i transferred to a 3x6. The ease of transferring my bill was simple, as the staff were very helpful in ensuring i would minimize any extra costs. There was a guy in the yard who helped me take my stuff from the 2nd floor of one building to the 2nd floor of another building, which was extremely helpful! I go to my storage unit alone and i always notice there is a worker available which makes me feel comfortable and safe. Even though i am in another state, i still use the storage unit to hold my goods until my husband and i return to California. I do feel that my belongings are secure here. BillPay also makes it easy to pay (yet easy to forget). Additionally, it was very simple to add my sister to my account to access my unit. The Downfalls: i used to get a reminder call when i forgot to pay my bill (yes, i am human and i do not always check my emails, and yes, i simply forget), but i dont get that anymore. I actually liked them calling and reminding me to pay up, or else....(maybe thats just me). Other than that, i would definitely recommend this facility.

is my 2nd review for this facility. I first gave them 4 stars because my signing on experience was great but now it seems that was to get me to spend my money here. My husband recently flew from Texas to California to retrieve items from our storage (were expecting baby #2 and have everything in storage). He got there when the office was closed which should have been no problem but when he got to our unit there was no lock and could not get in. He had to fly back early the next day so the trip was a complete waste. As you could imagine I call the office very frustrated with this and was told the change the doors and locks. They said that they sent a letter and email but I obviously didnt get either. However I do receive emails about payments and surveys no problem. The manager (James i think) who was unapologetic and not very helpful concluded that they did everything they could do, but I strongly disagree. They have no problem calling if your payment is a day late but couldnt call after seeing my keys were still there, clearly we didnt get the memo. I work in customer service and could not imagine not offering some sort of compensation for such a big mistake. The sad thing is, Ive referred people and one experienced the same thing...so did they really do all they could? Clearly not. Ive wasted hundreds of dollars and do not have what we need. I would hate for anyone else to go through this. Its just bad business. Just check yelp

There are times in our lives when we are presented with certain challenges that require the utilization of a Storage Facility. When selecting such a facility we hope that the facility will provide security and the assurance that our personal belongings are safe. The Management and supportive staff have been welcoming,responsive,courteous and above else gone beyond the call of duty in the treatment as a consumer at the highest level of professional standards. I especially am so pleased with a young man currently employed at Extra Space Storage his name is Mr. Chase Montgomery, " Keep up the excellent proffesnalim as you climb the Corporate Latter As a native son of Hayward for 62 years I have seen the diminishing level of customer care become a part of the past. I am most impressed that Extra Space Storage has not waivered in their commitment to serve the Hayward Community with respect and as a class act. Keep doing your excellent work !!!!!!!! Jason and the guys are great. I got the super tour of the facility and was able to find the perfect unit. UPDATE: Due to one of my movers not following directions I was put on restriction, which I understand/respect. Except somebody hiding inside after hrs stole one of my boxes, used it as a toilet (I cant make this up) & due to it being considered a 2nd incident, Jason evicted me. After being kicked out of my home & dealing with nightmare movers as my only form of help out here, it took a LOT out of me to do it all over again. My storage was just around the corner, completely walkable. Now I have to get a ride to the unit I moved to way further away & even though there was proof (nobody used my gate code when incident happened nor was there anything on camera showing I was anywhere in the facility) they all of a sudden treated me very different & wouldnt work things out with me. I never meant to be a problem & honestly I loved the staff there. Just upsetting that they wouldnt consider the evidence showing clearly I had nothing to do with the 2nd incident besides my box being stolen & used. Just too bad really.
