I used to have a favorable opinion of Extra Space Storage when I had my belongings stored at their location on Santa Monica Blvd between Van Ness and Bronson. Now, all that has changed. This location in particular is very dishonest and when they do business with their customers, their actions are not transparent. I had reserved my unit online and had gotten a first month free deal. This is how they lure you in. On the date of move-in, to give them my contact information, they had me enter it into their computer since "theyre paperless now". I did so, and Benjamin then scrolled to the bottom of the screen, telling me to click this button to confirm. Done. Now, just months later, theyve raised my rent 11%. ELEVEN PERCENT! Thats almost three times as much as an annual cost of living increase! And this is only six months later! When I was at their other location for TWO YEARS, I never once had a rate increase. Now, I would understand if Extra Space provides some sort of service that involves fuel costs or whatnot, but theyre a storage facility. Maybe theyre not able to fill all their units and so they feel the need to impose rate hikes on all their existing customers. ACROSS THE BOARD. Theyve got to be increasing their revenue rather healthily, considering how many units are at the facility. Thats a great way to express gratitude for the customers you do have, Extra Space. It didnt do Netflix much good, did it? I called their corporate office to complain and I was told the district manager, Manuel Sierra, would call me back. That didnt happen - instead, a woman named Lynn Holiday (who was probably his assistant because he cant be bothered with menial tasks such as these), called me to explain I had a month-to-month lease, which was subject to rate increases. I was never notified of this increase, by email or snail mail, even though they have all my contact information. On my move-in date, it was never explained to me that there would even be a possibility of a rate increase but my clicking of a button on their computer was considered acknowledgement. How shady is that? Complete bait and switch. I asked them if this is how they do business. Yes, thats how it is. I said I would complain to the BBB and the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce and they said to go right ahead. By their actions, its obvious this company does not value customer relations. And if thats the case, how much do they value your personal belongings?

I just got my storage unit this past weekend, on Saturday the 31st so it was pretty crazy there. Lots of trucks, lots of people and I still had paperwork to fill out. Thank goodness Hector was there, he took care of everything and everyone. Hector was working all by himself that day doing the job of at least 5 people. Most people would get pissed or stressed yet he was still one of the friendliest people Ive met out here in CA. Even when the server went down and he couldnt process my paperwork, he still was able to keep calm and friendly while thinking quickly about how to help everyone who was waiting. Hector, you rock! With this being said, this storage facility could really use some extra hands. As awesome as Hector is, there should probably be more people on staff to help everyone who comes in especially when there are people paying for movers and want to get their stuff in/out of the unit as fast as possible. I did wait for way longer than necessary to move in and I had even come in the previous week to speed up the process and fill out info before. Even without paying for movers, I wanted to get this stuff moved in fast and not wait around for long periods of time. If there were at least three people there the experience probably would have been a lot faster and more efficient for all involved. Its just ridiculous that one person is responsible for processing paperwork, showing people their unit, and helping others with any other need they have. Hector is great at juggling jobs but come on, no one can expect one person to do 4 things all at once.

I came to Extra Space Storage the day before I needed a 10x10 unit to store prop and set dressing pieces for a film I just wrapped. I cannot adequately put into words how incredibly helpful Hector was in giving the whole breakdown of how Extra Space works. He answered every question I had respectfully and was so great to work with. He was able to give me the one month free discount on my 10x10 unit out of the goodness of his heart and that truly makes a difference when it comes to customer service. He gave me solid advice, was very easy to communicate with, and even took the time to get to know me as a person. When you stop by Extra Space, talk to Hector for whatever it is that you need because I guarantee that he will take care of you. My order was pretty last minute and I needed quick cooperation. Hector stepped up and gave me the best deal I could find (way better pricing and service overall than Public Storage...I compared rates, deals, and service between the two). I had never booked my own storage unit before and I feel like Hector was an angel sent from Heaven for me haha. Extremely courteous, cares about the customer, and is able to answer any question you may have. I havent had a chance to talk to Ben much, but I know for a fact that you are in good hands if you talk to Hector. I dont see any reason why I would ever use Public Storage or any other business as I find it hard to believe that any other place would offer the competitive rates and extraordinary customer service that Extra Space has offered me.

Well after all that 5 years later elevator still breaks down .. Multiple rate increase within a small window frame . Started at a low price and now paying 40% much higher then street rate . I pay higher then new customers and yet get less from it . Long term isnt included I get it push people out and get higher rate , but at least fix the damn elevator . Throw up in the stair wells from some losers weekend adventure of hollywoods misfortunes. As an ex customer and someone who loved to help people as my name came up several times here, do your self a favor take your money elsewhere at least youll get what you were paying for . Susie and Christine are great and were able to work with me they just are working with a horrible company , and as for the DM thank you for making me spend an extra thousand dollars when it was your fault we could of resolved this last month .Thank you extra space of 5 years of wasting my money on a really horrible brand . I could get the same treatment and response from public storage down the street . Just look around shop around . Only cause its down the street doesnt mean they arent hundreds more storages . . I had to give two cause at least they painted a wall or two

This place just went from bad to worse: unprofessional (Celine that others rave about?), way above the market price and lacking access to rental units (less than 7 hours a day on average) is only the short list. Also, they close on Sundays. Seriously? One wonders if they really want to stay in business. They say the elevator does not work so that they impose restrictions of all sorts on a whim. Its a mad house, simply put. They make their rules as they go, and they do not inform anyone until the last minute. Bad, very bad business in all. My advice: go elsewhere. They simply arent worth it. *** Awful facility. Dirty, elevators not working, no restroom, no trash, poor customer service. Although they say access hours are every day between 6 am and 10 pm, in reality it is only during office hours, Monday thru Saturday. A scam! And the prices are outrageous. Gave them one star because I could not post this otherwise :-))
