This post office is a prime example of why the entire USPS is oozing cash. I went in to mail an international package, and the entire fiasco made me end up leaving after three times being told that something was wrong with the package and paperwork. The first time that a postal worker denied me, the error was mine, and he was good enough to allow me to go straight back to his counter without making me wait in line again. However....when I went back to his counter again, he said that because the package was under four pounds, I had to get out of line--again--and fill out a different customs form. There is no sign indicating which customs form is appropriate under what conditions, and each contain the exact same fields. They are just different sizes. He then put the "closed" sign on his desk and said that he was going on break, leaving only two employees. After destroying the original larger customs form and filling out the smaller one, I waited in line again. While in line, I reinforced the package with the Priority Mail tape, deciding that if I had to pay extra for Priority Mail as a result, I had no issues doing that. When I finally got to the next available employee, though, he said that I would have to get out of line and fill out the other larger form in order to send it Priority Mail. Quite upset at having been denied a third time, I mentioned to him that they should put a sign in place indicating which customs form to use under what circumstances. He didnt even acknowledge having heard my suggestion. I know that no change will result there. The parking situation is wretched, by the way. Bottom line--Ill either pay four times as much to send international packages via UPS or drive as many miles as I have to to use a different post office. They suck!

This Post Office is getting a second and third star for their ultra-realistic and nostalgia producing reenactment of life in the 1980s era Soviet Union. After dutifully losing my very important overnight mail, I arrived 30 minutes before the 8:30 opening to stand in the orderly line forming outside the locked door, excited for my vintage Soviet experience. I was not disappointed. At 8:35 the doors opened, the line surged in. The one clerk disinterestedly handled customers with the air of one who is both all powerful and completely detached from the common mans problems. The ideal Soviet Bureaucrat. A second clerk walked slowly to his desk at 8:45 under the expectant gazes of the growing line of common folk. He fiddled, typed, looked up. The line twittered with anticipation. He slowly turned and went into the back without a word. The line sank back into cowed sullenness, acutely aware of their powerlessness and lack of choice when confronted with the inevitability that is the Post Office. I myself was shunted from line to line, room to room, to give the illusion of progress, efficiency, and omnipotence. They never did find my package. So, for all of the Russian language DLI and Middlebury Institute students in the area looking for a little immersion, this is a cheap and accurate alternative. I appreciate these reenactors commitment to their art and I look forward to visiting again. After I send my important documents through UPS of course.

1. They only get two stars because the building is super historic and beautiful. 2. The lines are ridiculously long no matter what day of the week it is because they usually only have 2 cashiers/postal workers. 3. The postal worker named KATY is VERY rude especially to people with disabilities. An older man couldnt see or hear well (had a walking cane, medical sunglasses and a hearing aide) and she refused to help him correct the labeling of to/from on his package. When he couldnt read the touchpad with extremely small type font, she proceded to start yelling at him that she couldnt help him until he answered yes or no to flammable material even though he had no idea that was the question. I understand that there are limits to the job and some things must be done by the person sending the mail not the postal worker, but there are ways of speaking to people, especially older disabled people that would help serve them better. She was flat out RUDE and other people in the line noticed as well. Im only 26 and I considered it disrespectful. 4. The other guy Henry is very nice and sociable though. Just avoid the rude woman at counter 4.

Our trip to the basement of this office for a passport left us frustrated at best and abused at worst. The woman in charge, or so it seemed by her attitude of superiority, lacked people skills on a level equal to Oscar the Grouch. She was rude, condescending, errant in her knowledge of payment, unwilling to consider her own error, and abrasive. A bad day is understandable, but judging by the way she dealt with co-workers, I feel confident that she is a daily challenge. I recommend the office in Marina on DeForest. Our experience there was wonderful.

I have a store on Cannerey Row. April 30th, carrier drop off our package in front of different store, different building all together. In fornt of the other store!..thats right...during business hours. As many of us know that Cannery Row is busy with tourists, high foot traffic area. Carrier even scan the package as delivered. No explaination was given when called to complain. We had package lost before. This post office must be the worse in the nation.

Any time you have to deal with a government-run program, there are going to be frustrations. That said, the workers at this post office are friendly and helpful. Assuming you dont treat them like garbage, they will be more than happy to make suggestions to help you save money. They are also a lot faster than the guys at my post office back home.

This is a beautiful historic building with lots of packaging supplies, free priority mailing boxes & lots of street parking. Its kept clean and the workers are very friendly. Another good thing: I can walk through an alley to get to Trader Joes after posting my mail and only have to park once for 2 errands.

This post office just did not deliver about three letter around Christmas time. Then the supervisor was like oh well. If she was even really the supervisor, who I spoke to on the phone. I am saying about because that is how many I found out about. Who knows how many others were lost.

I might as well have been at the DMV. I spent my whole lunch break here just to pick up One package. I actually had to leave before I could get my package because it took so long. Absolutely rediculous, I highly recommend avoiding this branch.

I have a lazy, grumpy mailmen who just passes up my outgoing mail if I dont have a delivery, even though he"s right there because "its not required". Im not required to do a lot of humanly decent things, but I do. Shame on your position.

Very nice old historic post office in downtown Monterey. Parking can be difficult as it is Street only. The line moves quickly even when it is long.

If I had to rate this post office on the number of packages theyve lost or delivered to the incorrect address I would give them 5 out of 5.
