Ive been to this location a number of times to get in, get my product and get out. No issues what so ever. The one time I needed their assistance was when I purchased a Bosch battery that was 2 years old, with a 3 year warranty. Heres why I give them 4 stars: Initially I went to Autozone to replace my battery, after they tested that it was bad, we went over my options and warranty information, thats where it clicked and I remembered that I should still be covered. I left Autozone and contacted Pep Boys and the lady I spoke with on the other line, Pam, was very helpful. I did not hang on to my receipt, but I did have it under my rewards account. So no issue there. They did not have the battery in stock, but Pam promised a delivery by tomorrow. They followed through so again no issue there. I pull up with my vehicle and they had the battery at the counter. The associate told me that they are unable to remove the battery from my car to swap them. And the battery had to be removed from the car to test it. I did not have my tools with me at the time. Why? Because its Pep Boys, there are maybe 1000 different ways to remove a battery from a car with the tools they had in their garage. Okay okay I get it. This is policy and procedure... and also a $16 work order if you wish to have their mechanics do it. I declined. Im a broke college student as is. But I did not know this before entering their store, my bad, however it was super inconvenient that tools were within arms reach, but I couldnt borrow a 10mm socket. I bought the battery full price+core, and went home to swap the batteries. The issues that my car had before swapping batteries were gone!! I was happy! Now time to return the defective battery that should be covered under warranty and get my money back. I take the battery inside, and I believe his name was Adam. Ran in initial test. Battery reported bad. They then ran an extended test where it charged the battery and checked to see if it maintained charge. Battery came up good! Not exactly surprised since it was giving me some intermittent issues. I was not lying when I told them my car was having some problems with the battery it had. Without going over the issues, I was ready to battle with management because I thought theyre going to want their new battery back or I was going to have to swallow the cost of the new battery. Skip to the end, their sweetheart of a manager asked me the most important question: "Is everything okay with your car now?" My answer was Yes, and she gladly took my old battery and returned it as defective. 4 stars including the initial inconvenience plus the very professional and courteous response from management at the end. They showed that they care about the customer in the end, and I would recommend this team to a friend or colleague.

On passing through Sacramento far from home one weekend this past summer, my air conditioner pulley started making a screeching noise. Since it was a Sunday, I had no other options but Pep Boys to fix it. It took them all day (9am-6pm when they closed) but they replaced the entire air conditioner assembly (not sure if that was necessary), recharged the system etc. and $1000 later I was on my way. If only the story ended there! Three days later in Oregon, their "new" air conditioner seized completely. With no nearby Pep Boys I had the Jeep dealership replace it, and then dutifully tried to return the broken one to Pep Boys on my way back through Sacramento. When I got there, I was told "Oh, only the manager is authorized to receive returns, and he is out delivering parts". Hanging around in Sacramento for a whole day, he never showed so I just left the broken AC with the front desk staff along with my phone number. I called every day for the next week and the elusive manager was never there, and never returned my calls. After that I called my credit card to dispute the charge for the repair. The parts+labor charge was removed and I thought I was done with the ordeal, until 2 months later when my credit card company sent me a letter saying that Pep Boys claimed I had returned a _different_ part than the one they installed! Yeah, like I was carrying a supply of _other_ broken air conditioners to return! Their part failed (as documented by the Jeep dealership just days after they installed it, almost ruining the trip) and I did all I could to return it for a refund. All I got from them was stalling (exploiting my "weakness" of passing through Sacramento on a schedule) and now, lying, to avoid honoring their warranty. Of course if the part hadnt broken, or if they had simply honored their warranty, theyd be getting 5 stars from me. I guess that earning customer goodwill is just not a priority over ripping them off - lets see how that works in the long run. No more Pep Boys for me, ever, even though I live along the street from one. Avoid at all cost (literally!).

1. A few weeks ago I purchased shocks for my truck with no issues, at first...The front end of my truck was apart in my garage; as I came to the last nut at the top of the shock tower, I realized the packaging was missing a piece of hardware. (washer between the bushing and nut) I called the store, explained it to the manager and she went to the back and found one for me. It was inconvenient as hell! But, I was happy to just have the hardware to finish my truck. When I picked up the part, It seemed as though she felt she had done me a favor... Whatever, I was happy to have it done, like I said. 2. I purchased a relay today and tried it in my truck in the parking lot. It turned out that the relay didnt help. So, I went back in the store and tried returning the item. I was unaware of the return policy, and the manager informed me that once the item was "plugged in" that it is now a used item and cannot be returned. Of course, I asked for an override return. Immediately, she began giving me attitude, even saying, "we cant return used items, how would you like to purchase used items?" Disrespectful, rhetorical questioning is NOT what anyone expects from a store manager. The last straw was when I was told "you are lucky the part was only seventeen dollars, electrical components could have cost you hundreds of dollars." Like, WHAAAAAT???? Are you joking!!!??? I DO NOT need a life lesson from pepboys!!!! Ill never shop here again. Ive had better customer service from the tax man... Im sticking to amazon from now on. Theres a reason they are dominating the market right now.

Where do I start? Ive had several experiences with pep boys over the years and all but one was bad. Im okay with giving a single star in commemoration of the one, kind of good experience I had. I generally try to stay away from pep boys but now that I live closer to one I thought I would try again for convenience purposes. "Always follow your first mind" is what I hear my mom saying to me because thats exactly what I should have done. Selling me the wrong parts which wouldnt have been so bad if my mechanic and I didnt have conflicting schedules. They knew the make model and vin - go figure. Telling me they need a special tool to replace my battery causing me to have to get my car all the way across town to get a new battery and waiting for three more hours and finding out that there is no "special tool". Screwing up my tire to where there was a loud screeching coming from it and then refusing to fix it... had to get a different mechanic to fix it. In store customer service not very helpful to where I had to google a bunch of stuff I to find the right products for my car. Having me wait days for an appointment only to be notified later in day that they didnt have the proper tools to test my car. Really? I waited two days, got my car to the location when my car could have been somewhere else being repaired. Its not meant for me to deal with pep boys. The list goes on but If they are good to you then stick with them Im happy for you but Im done dealing with it. Good luck with all of your car repairs. Thanks for reading.
