I joined and paid $1400.00 up front for a year to avoid monthly fees. I went specifically there for tennis, since I am a beginner and wanted to expand my skills. I received a free tennis lesson with the "pro"" for paying up front. He canceled the first appt and came 10 minutes late to the rescheduled one. After complaining about how he felt for 10 minutes we finally played and after 12 minutes proclaimed me a beginner and left the court. Clearly this place was not for beginners. RUDE!!!! I tried practicing with the ball machine but it was broken. Asked for a refund for my court time and then received a very rude letter threatening to collect my debt ($30) if I did not pay immediately. This was the first time I heard of the charge. After five phone calls to the "accounting" dept, I finally got the $30 taken off my bill. This was the first of four wrongful charges that I had to spend several phone calls and hours to correct. :( Dealing with the people actually in the club is not better. The kids at the front desk are careless and rude and the manager never returned my calls. I quit the tennis idea and started going to the pool. It is very outdated and dreary & dingy but the teachers were very nice. The locker rooms are crowded and the showers busy, had to wait cold to get in the shower on many occasions. In the summer it was worse - we had our class outdoors after the kids lessons, can you imagine the thought of getting in a pool after 50 kids just got out???? gross!!!!! The classes were so crowded and they played bad music over these tinny, horrible pool speakers, in the sun, crowded - it gave me such a headache I had to quit going. I quit going to the club altogether after that. Three months after my prepaid year was up, I received a letter AGAIN threatening to collect a debt. This time for $360.00 since they continued my membership without informing me. Of course they claim they sent me a letter, which I never got. I had to officially cancel my membership, so I did and they tacked on another $125.00 and sent me another letter threatening to collect a debt. In the entire time I dealt with this club, I NEVER received a bill up front, always these threatening letters. What a terrible way to treat a customer. No one ever called to try and renew my membership. While dealing with them with this last matter, I was told, I can work with their "Credit Counseling" dept. Now tell me, why does a Health Club need a Credit Counseling Dept???? They need to spend time taking care of their outdated faclities and make money by having a great club with nice people and great service, instead of building a business in collecting poorly billed fees! I joined Montclair rec center, brand new pool, same teachers, and cleaner facility for $125 for the year. Thats less than the stupid fee they charged me for not closing my membership "correctly". They truly do suck. I wish Í had read these reviews before joining!

DO NOT JOIN THE Colorado athletic club Monaco This would be a good gym and family place to go if only they didnt hire know it all and very rude kids to run the out Door swimming pool. I was asked today very aggressively was that REDheaded kid my son!! For some reason this kid in charge of the swimming pool must be no more than 16/17 himself wanted to pick on my son and said he couldnt swim. My son has passed the 3rd level swimming test and has no problem in the deep end. He was a bit upset because his brother was in the deep end and this kid in charge of the kids and adults told him he wasnt allowed in the deep end even though hes been there a million times before and never had a problem. There was kids in the deep end half his size and age but nothing was said about them. This kid obviously had a problem with my red headed son as he said to me aggressively. Its amazing its one of the most expensive gyms/clubs to join in denver and for all the money we pay theres children controlling the most dangerous part of this club. This kid was so big headed he called his boss and his boss believed when he blatantly lied and told me and my wife he had asked us to tell our son to do a swim test he never asked this once but his boss believed him. My son did a swim test and proved he was well able to swim in the deep end. this little guy With control and power issues couldnt believe it. The result is he didnt like the little red headed child and proceeded to bully a7 year old. my device to anyone is DO NOY PAY TO JOIN THIS CLUB Especially if you value the life of your children and they have red hair. I will post a picture of this kid who thinks hes in charge and the manager who agreed with his lies I also have it on tape that he lied.

Monaco CAC is one of the oldest clubs in Denver and it shows-- not becuase the place is run down, but more becuase the design of the facility is stuck in the 60s. If you are looking for a giant wharehouse style gym with an open concept this is not the place for you. All in all the equipment is very nice, the locker rooms are clean and spacious and the activites offered are much better than most big-box gyms-- tennis, outside pool, racquetball, running track, deli with beer on tap, daily classes.... They have child care and we have had no issues. The kids can play, eat, watch movies or read-- not sure what people expect for 2 hour child care on other reviews, but keeping my kids happy and safe is all we wanted. I give 3 stars to the Monaco CAC for 3 main reasons. (1) the parking is terrible, (2) the pool inside the gym is dark and does not feel welcoming what-so-ever, and (3) the layout of the gym is so awkward and feels claustrophobic. The whole place needs demolished and remodeled but that isnt going to happen, so take it for what it is-- a decent gym in the city without the crowds of the big-box gyms.

Despite the reviews here, I joined because its so conveniently located. Im glad I did. Most of the issues cited here are about billing which are beyond what this Club controls. My rep even warned me about how difficult it would be to cancel so she helped me understand what I was committing to. I have found the club to be extremely clean and friendly. I take my kids to the nursery and ocassionaly they have had the TV on because a parent has requested it for their child; I request that mine play and thats exactly what they do. They have even finger painted with them! Besides that, they take them to "Fit Kids" classes and "Kid Yoga". My kids love the classes. As for me, I love being able to workout in a place that is NOT ever crowded. Then, I treat myself to a (almost always) private hot tub, steam room and sauna. I couldnt be happier. In a nut shell: dont knock the club for inferior corporate policies! Employees in this club work very hard to keep their customers happy..like me!
