When planning a major move from Southern California to Oregon, I shopped around extensively for a moving company. The reviews I read of the major moving companies were horrifying - none of them earned more than one or two stars from ANY of their customers. Then I found Zippy Shell, with its consistent 4 and 5 star ratings, and was astounded. I called them for a quote and ended up going with them. Here are the Pros and Cons: PROS: 1. The price was the same, or slightly better, than other quotes I got. 2. My moving coordinator, Danielle, was excellent. She constantly bent over backwards to accommodate our every need and request. If I was unable to reach her with a question, I left a message with their reliable service, and she always returned my call in a timely manner. We also coordinated via email a good deal. 3. Every person I had contact with at Zippy Shell was polite, pleasant, and did their best to make our move as easy as possible. 4. We chose to pack our own belongings, and have Zippy Shells movers load the shells. We ended up needing 3 shells, which were delivered over a period of 10 days or so. When we realized we needed an extra few days to prepare for the last shell, the Zippy staff sprung into action and somehow rearranged the schedule to help us. 5. The movers were all wonderful to work with. They were sweet and patient, and willing to help with unusual pieces. They worked very, very hard, and didnt take breaks. Each shell took between 2-3 hours to pack. 6. We ended each packing session by locking the shell with our own lock, so we knew that no one would be able to rummage through our belongings, and everything would arrive in the same shell it was packed in. 7. When our shells arrived at our new home, the movers in Oregon were as efficient and competent as the ones in California. The shells arrived in excellent condition, and NOT ONE THING was broken or damaged in any way. I couldnt be more pleased. Of course, some of that was because I am a crazy over-packer, but still...an excellent result. 8. Regarding financial arrangements, Zippy Shell was up front from the beginning with all fees and costs. All financial transactions happened exactly as described. CONS: 1. The movers, who were wonderful guys, were also young, with a variety of experience levels. My husband kept an eye on the shells as they were packed. Generally the movers did a good job, but occasionally he had to jump in and prevent a possible mishap. 2. Our shells were initially scheduled to arrive at our destination on December 23rd. With the holiday crush, the date was moved to December 26th - not unexpected, all things considered. Thats it. I couldnt have asked for a better moving experience. Good luck with your move - no matter how smoothly it goes, you can count on it being exhausting and stressful. And now - I have to go back to unpacking boxes.

While the local staff in the Tampa Bay office were friendly, nothing about that local office, the customer service experience, or our cross-country move went smoothly. They were both inept and unethical, and I would never use this company again or recommend them to anyone. Some things that went wrong for us: 1) Neither of our 2 shells was delivered on time to our home for us to pack. One was missing a lock. 2) The local office was late to pick up our first shell, and completely forgot to pick up our 2nd shell. I had to call to remind them. 3) For cross-country moves, Zippy shell schedules their deliveries on a first-come, first-served basis with their warehouses. They didnt call to schedule our delivery with the warehouse until two weeks after the first one was picked up, which resulted in them missing their promised ten-day turnaround window by well over a week. That meant no stuff in our new house for over a week. 3) The customer service manager in the corporate office outright lied to me on one occasion (which he admitted to after I pressed him). The customer service staff repeatedly explained to me policies that differed from those offered to me by the manager in that same office. 4). They charged us the balance of our contract amount before our shells were delivered, even after I confirmed with the customer service office that our contract specified otherwise. (We were on their old billing system, which has since changed) 5). Although nothing in our contract specified a surcharge for a piano, the third party delivery company they used charged us an extra $200 for delivering the piano with no notice. 6). We didnt get confirmation of our delivery date/time until 9PM the evening before it was scheduled to arrive. 7). The delivery to our new house was late by over two hours, and when I went outside to greet the truck, both guys had fallen asleep in the cab of the truck. 8.) After we received our final invoice for $4804, we received an additional $300 charge from Zippy Shell two weeks later with no notice whatsoever. That charge was contested through our credit card company.

DONT USE ZIPPY SHELL for your move. I mean it. I was quoted (and signed a contract) for $4900.88 for my move from Arizona to Florida, and in the end, they charged me $6154.85. How am I suppose to know what size container Ill need? They are the professionals. After a battery of questions, their salesman came up with one large and one small container. Well, guess what? It took two large containers and they charged me extra for the time it took to go and get the other one and fill it. What a rip off! In addition, Key at customer service (my "move coordinator") promised to call me back TWICE with an explanation and I never received a call back. How can a company like this just blow off my concerns about an upcharge of $1253.97. Dont they care about their reputation? Im going to spread the word to all of my family and friends.

REVOLTING EXPERIENCE! Never use this company! This company practices extortion, bullying customers, and horrendous customer service. I would give a negative score if less than one star was an option. Dont give them a credit card, EVER! I was told that I was wrong, I was confused, and that I was not allowed to speak with management. I was told that the company was overbooked and could not deliver within my requested window, and was going to charge me storage fees. Then couldnt deliver it for another month. Then I could rent a truck at my own expense, go to the warehouse and unload my things from the shell into a rental truck and take my things away that way! Then, they werent going to release my things to me until I paid the storage fees that I never requested! Worst company ever!

I had a great experience with Zippy Shell. I moved from Denver to the Bay Area and didnt have my final housing secured yet. Zippy Shell worked with me to drop off the storage unit at my house in Denver and then transport and store my items until I could find housing in California. I personally worked with Marisabell. We spoke many times over the phone and she was always very helpful and informative. I had to change my address and delivery dates and there was never an issue. Not having to store my things in Denver for a few months, buy a plane ticket to fly home, rent a truck and then drive all my stuff out to California was so great and convenient. My stuff arrived in California outside my new place and I was able to easily move in. I would definitely recommend Zippy Shell.
