Well Im in one of those situations that you hear about. I took my car in for an oil change at Jiffy Lube, and later that day my camshaft sensor caused a check enginge light. I broght it back and they said its not something that they could have caused. Well I had to research it and the possibility exist that the securing bolts could have been loosened, or it is just a coincidence... So I took the car over to AAMCO which is in the same building to get the sensor replaced. After a much longer wait than was estimated I was back on the road. Now a few days later, my car is burning through gas way to fast. Apparently the camshaft sensor plays a roll in this. I also have an exhaust smell comming in through the vents. I will be calling AAMCO to when they open this morning to see how they will address this problem. Its always a little odd when things start happening after you take your car into the shop. Ill make an update to this review after this next round. UPDATE: Well they were able to find the problem, apparently a PVC hose was either left off or came off causing both the poor milage and the fumes. They fixed this problem with no charge to me other than my time. All in all things are running good now.

I feel its my duty to warn people of this business. My greatest concern is that we were told lies consistently. Our situation would have been half as bad if we were told honestly what is going on. Secondly, I wish to highlight their extremely poor communication. We were told to collect our car after repair at certain time and when we got there and waited for 1 and 1/2 hour, we were told the part has not arrived. We used to be their customers and they had our contact details, but in spite of that, no one called us to tell us the part is not in. We wasted hours waiting around. Also, when I called in to ask about an update, I was greeted in a very unfriendly way, as if I bother them. Our part was eventually replaced with an old part, looking worse than our original one - that is after they kept our car for 5 days, promising us each and every day it will be fixed the following day. I must be fair and say that they did not charge us as they acknowledged all the hassle they caused us. Anyway, I lost more money on not being able to get to work than I would have if I paid for a proper service. Not to mention that we would have preferred to have a genuine new part in.

I had a minor coolant leak I was concerned with on my wifes car. I pulled in around 11:25 am, they close at noon by the way, and this was on graduation weekend at ISU. I was greeted by a very friendly Jiffy Lube tech, Jiffy Lube shares the building with AAMCO at the Duff location, and told AAMCO could take a look at the leak. Had a chance to talk to the very friendly and knowledgeable AAMCO tech about the situation and my concerns for safely driving home, 3 hours across the state. He said hed take a look. I about 25 minutes later I talked with the AAMCO rep and they told me it was mostly likely an issue with the gasket for the water pump and we could take it to our regular repair shop for service. I asked how much I owed them. NO CHARGE for the diagnostic. So, not only did I experience great customer service from start to finish, I didnt even have to pay for it, and this was at a drop in, no APT service center on a ridiculously busy day in Ames. Highly recommend these guys! Thanks so much, you made my day AAMCO!

I am a student at ISU and the fuel pump on my truck went bad while I was in Ames. I was leaving town within a couple days to go home to Chicago and my normal mechanic was booked so I took my truck here. It took much longer than they told me to fix and I ended up in the waiting room for 2 hours after my friend dropped me off. After I got the fuel pump replaced my truck would spill gas every time I filled it up all the way. While I was back home I took it to a mechanic my dad always goes to and he found the problem was because Aamco put the gasket for the pump on folded over and that is why the gas was leaking. This sounds simple enough to fix but in order to get to the pump they have to drop the gas tank down and it ended up costing me an extra few hundred in labor. If you want cheap, crap work then go here. It will only end up costing more in the long run.

My 2010 impala was acting up around 85k miles. I took it here at the end of October. I was greeted by Shaun the manager he was very friendly and professional. They took a look at it right away and test drove it. Diagnosed transmission was going to need to be replaced. Sure enough 2 weeks later boom gone. I let it sit before finally deciding to fix it. I called around other local shops in town for a quote and all were either around the same or more expensive but i went with Shaun and Aamco because of the great original experience I had. Shaun was very professional and answered all my concerns over the phone. Went above and beyond and provided excellent customer service. Got it towed and transmission is under a great warranty front to back. Im very impressed and would come back here for any major auto work and I would suggest people the same.

I am not sure about AAMCO Transmission chain in other places as I have read many things of the other places but the Ames one is really great! I have had a friend of mine who had his cars tranny replaced from here and they were really good at price and quality. Later on, I have had many check ups and repairs done by Aamco. I had lots of experiences with many other auto shops here in Ames. Most of them are too professional and try to snatch away as long as you dont realize what is happening actually! You need to know a bit about cars to nab them! I wouldnt say so with Shan and Aamco. I experienced this many times. The unit manager Shan is a cool guy! The unit thrives to maintain a good rapport with their customers through their work and price. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who is having car issues!!!

I am new to the area, had a really good mechanic back home, so my standards are pretty high when it comes to my car. I use the jiffy lubes next door, excellent place, very friendly. The belts on my car needed to be replaced and jiffy lubes recommended me to Aamco, tried them out, the job was done up to my satisfaction. Will definitely be bringing my car back to Aamco the next time my vehicle needs anything replaced.

Stopped in the other day and had them look at my transmission. I was very worried that I was going to need a totally new one and was wondering where I was going to come up with the money. Thankfully they diagnosed it as a bad battery, the low voltage was evidently causing my transmission to act up. Needless to say I was super thankful and appreciative of the honest and efficient work the guys there did.
