Mediacom is the worst internet and tv provider I have ever had, hands down. I have had so many issues starting right from the first phone call to set up service. I called to set up an appointment to install service because I could not use the online setup due to me living in a multiple family building and the previous tenants having an account with them that did not end until a week after I moved in, apparently the online setup cant handle starting new service while an account is currently at a location. When I called the person I spoke with first REFUSED to give me the internet deal of Internet 60 + Local TV for $49.99 because he said that was no longer available, even though it was online and if the previous tenant didnt have an account I could have signed up for it. He also signed me up for the wrong cable box and wrong "extra gift" included with the service he told me was available. I eventually gave up with this person and called back to speak with someone new. This person said the service I wanted was still available and had no idea what the first representative was talking about so we set up an appointment on the first available data, which was 2 weeks away by the way, to have the cable and internet installed. I was told I was also put on standby and would be called to let me know if a closer appointment was available and basically guaranteed that one would be. Never received a phone call to let me know either way and obviously waited the two weeks. Also, I had selected to get the speed boost to the internet 100 as my "extra gift". Fast forward to installation day and was told it would take up to 24 hours for the internet speeds to increase to the full 100 mbps and was told this speed was available in my area. Should be since they also offer 200mbps + here as well. Well more than 24 hours went by and we were getting around 8mbps which isnt even enough for two people to be online at the same time. I called and they had "no idea why" and set up another appointment for a tech to come out. We have a $100 + modem that can handle up to 1.2 gig downloads so the 100mbps shouldnt be a problem. Our router is also top of the line so it isnt the devices we have, it is media com. Well two days after making the appointment to get our internet fixed ( the appointment was 4 days after the phone call was made) our tivo box stopped working and we could no longer watch tv either. Called and sat on the phone for 30+ mins trying to get them to refresh signals and fix the box but the one thing they tried supposedly takes 20+ mins on average and half way through the attempted fix the representative hung up on me. So I had to call back, again, to get help which the person I spoke with didnt even try to help she just said she would send a tech. So basically nothing works, appointments take forever to get, and no one who works for mediacom knows how to do their own job. DO NOT GET THEM AS A PROVIDER.

I wish I could give Mediacom less than one star. Where to start... When we initially set up our service, they sent twice as much equipment to our house. Then the installer wouldnt take the extra equipment with him, I had to go to the UPS store to send it back. To top it all off, I received harassing telephone messages stating that there was an emergency and to call Mediacom immediately; only to find out that their records hadnt updated that we had sent the equipment back (hardly an emergency), threatening to send our account to collections, and the customer service representative had no idea what telephone message I was talking about. The customer service we received was the worst I have ever seen. The product was also garbage. We have to wait well over a month to have our cable (and our neighbors) buried in the ground which meant mowing around a cable strung across our yard. Every time we called (about 6 times in total) the person I spoke to had no record of the problem and refused to recognize their mistake(s). They also left a huge brush pile (approximately 6ft tall by 8ft long) on the edge of our property and refused to acknowledge it. We had multiple problems with the internet and the cable not working and it would take several days, if not more than a week, for it to be fixed. We were promised a price reduction or a credit due to a lack of functional service, but that never came to fruition (again, they denied the problem and their mistakes). The customer service representatives are often overseas, resistant to let you talk to their supervisor/manager, and unprofessional. When I finally canceled our service, I had to take their equipment to the local office (which you cannot contact via telephone) I had to wait over an hour to return their equipment. We are now paying more per month for the same service from a different company and we couldnt be happier.

Unfortunately Ames is limited on cable and internet providers. Mediacom claims to be a leader in the industry but every aspect of the company is trash. They have horrible customer service. We had to stand in line for 90 min to receive our modem which we later had to return because it did not work. Dont even bother trying to talk to a representative over the phone. I recommend giving your complaints in person because it really annoys them and may eventually force them to fix their customer service. I have lived in Ames for 5 years. 4 of which as a student. Every apartment that I lived in had some sort of contract with mediacom forcing me to use them as my internet provider. At every location, internet would cut out numerous times a day for varying lengths of time from a couple minutes to several hours. This was very annoying when trying to study for school. Internet speeds were horrible. If I ever needed to do schoolwork that required the internet for over a hour of required downloading larger files and programs, I always drove to campus to use the universitys internet. Otherwise to simplest of assignments would take way longer than necessary because of Mediacoms slow internet. I had Mediacom cable, but am not a big television watcher so I cannot personally attest to the quality of this service. I have had roommates that have commented on how the cable is just as bad as the internet. If given a choice I would have explored other internet providers. Quite frankly I cannot wait to move away from mediacom and the trash it is trying to pass as service. Like I said before, there arent any decent internet providers in Ames but my suggestion is ICS because they at least have good customer service. That is assuming Mediacom hasnt already locked your apartment in a contract.

Mediacom charges more than they agreed to charge me. I have had to go in before to correct billing errors, and it happened again. On 08/11/12, I signed up for a 24 month 19.99 a month promotion of 20MBps internet (plus 5$/month modem for a total of 24.99/month), no contract required. On 10/16/12, I received a larger bill - about double the expected amount. I called to complain and was told that my promotion had expired. I was able to clear this up and was refunded the extra charges, and my rate went back to the original rate, after much legwork and patiently holding, etc. on my part. Most of the people I talked to were convinced that I was wrong so it was an uphill battle all the way. When this was over, I requested that they print out and give me all of the notes taken during my phone calls that we had needed in order to clear up the issue. I decided that if this happened again, they would receive a complaint. 08/28/13, my credit card was automatically charged $59.25 by mediacom. I have not upgraded my service or contacted Mediacom trying to change anything, and they have not contacted me, either. I will take the notes that I have printed to their office tomorrow and try to reverse the error, but I feel that the way this mistake keeps happening is bordering on fraud. I was promised a rate for a period of time, I have it in writing, and they have doubled the rate for no reason two times. I wonder how many victims out there did not notice a mistake like this and have been paying much more than they agreed to.
