I have been a customer for coming up on 4 years. I will give them 1 star as their residential cable internet speed is decent price. That is all you will get from Mediacom. Stability is so-so. It goes down more frequently than I have been accustomed to with other providers but down time has never been more than a day (still too long in my book). I can tell you that their service and support will leave much, much to be desired. I have been into their local office in Burnsville/Savage (I think it may be closed now) numerous times and every single time I had to wait for the receptionist to finish her personal conversation on the phone about her latest hot dish concoction, about how her little dog did something cute, or some other ridiculous thing - then get treated like I was interrupting. I could get into few stories about poor phone support but do not want to write a novel. I worked at an ISP doing tech support throughout college and now work in a similar tech field. I tend to tech support my own stuff and call in after narrowing it down. Its the same story every time I call, "not us, must be on your end". "Youre using other technology other than a cable modem?! BLASPHEMY!" Suffice to say in the end, its always been an issue on their end - and my time gets wasted. Very frustrating. It took them three trips, and a full month, to figure out I needed a DOCSIS 3 cable modem to achieve the speeds I was paying for and when I asked for a credit for for a service I couldnt use, they refused. I got frustrated and bought my own cable modem and returned theirs. I was charged a cable modem fee for months even though I was no longer using theirs. All the while, me calling and setting them straight multiple times. I finally decided maybe I would look at business class internet from Mediacom since I work from home. I need fast internet and great service which their residential team clearly cant provide. I was shocked to find they are twice as much as every other cable provider in Minnesota for similar services. I have sent emails and called to find out why and the customer service reps have no idea. I was assured a call back from someone who could talk to my inquiry - it has been months. I continue to email and get no response. Unfortunately, if you a part of their cable servicing area you do not have any other cable choice. I would suggest looking at DSL providers in the area. Hopefully in the future, customers in 55378 will get a better option than Mediacom. EDIT: Before the "social media team" from Mediacom responds with your copy and pasted response. My name is at the top and you have my information. Get up off your lazy ass and reach out on your own. I have tried numerous times, as stated above, to reach out and I get no response. I have no more time to waste on you.

I recently moved from Minnetonka to a house in Chanhassen, and I do not understand why Chanhassen must be plagued by such an awful cable company. Many of the surrounding cities (Eden Prairie, Chaska, Minnetonka, etc.) have Comcast/Xfinity which has much better services and features (Xfinity Go/Stream, X1, xFi, etc.) for the same price or lower. Mediacom relies mainly on 3rd party apps and devices to deliver their services which is a huge drawback in my opinion because it requires you to install and log into many apps instead of a simple, single sign on. Mediacom is especially stingy when it comes to data caps. Mediacom has a cap of 400 Gb per month at 60 Mbps while Comcast has a minimum of 1 Tb per month data cap. Meanwhile, Spectrum (another major cable company in the Twin Cities) has no data caps on internet service. Comcast and Spectrum are nowhere near perfect, but they are substantially better than Mediacom. I waited over one month to have a cable line buried to my house for internet. Several service reps told me the line would be buried within 21 days after the initial technician submitted the work order. After 21 days with no update I called multiple times to get an ETA, but no one could provide an approximate timeline. Finally, after 26 days I was told they it could take another 31 days to bury the line. The only reason they can expect someone to wait 57+ days for internet without offering some type of compensation or incentive is because they have a monopoly on the market. The “dig once” policy might work for cites with better ISPs, but Mediacom had the lowest consumer satisfaction rating according to the ACSI Telecommunications Report for 2 years in a row and there are no signs of improvement in 2017. I never thought I would have such a bad experience with an ISP in the metro area. In short, they don’t compete in regards to: 1. Price – Quotes from Comcast and Spectrum were cheaper. How is this justifiable when Mediacom provides zero benefits over other cable companies in the Twin Cities? 2. Data caps – Comcast and Spectrum offer higher or no data caps for internet service, regardless of the tier. 3. Customer Service – Voted lowest consumer satisfaction in 2015 and 2016. 4. Apps/Features – Mediacom has a simple mobile care app and relies primarily on 3rd party apps (i.e. Watch ESPN) to deliver their services. Apps like Xfinity Stream allow you to watch live and on demand TV on your phone or other streaming devices so you only have to login to 1 place. In addition, they have better apps for account management. 5. Speed – Ranked below Comcast, Spectrum, Cox, and others according to the Netflix speed index.

***Multiple updates below*** After disconnection we scheduled a reconnection a week ago. Had I not called to double check the appointment I would not have know we actually needed to be here. I thought they would just do something outside since they disconnected us without anyone coming into the house. Ok, Im here, they have a four hour window 8-noon when they would be here. Its 12:10. No call! No service tech! I took a HALF day off of work for THIS? A NO SHOW? Now I have to wait another week. Thanks for living up to your reputation Mediacom!!!! You really suck!!! Update*** I tried to use "TV Anywhere" but what a PITA!! Could not find any comprehensive info on how to activate or sign up to this feature. Why is Mediacom so assbackwords on everything it does? I just DESPISE this company. Update*** 4/8/17 3 weeks of glitchy Internet, no Netflix and 1 hour on the phone on two separate calls to tech support plugging and unplugging the router with their crackpot tech support asking what light is blinking. Now an appointment for onsite service but hey we got ONE days credit. Keep tuned for my next update. Update*** 4/10/17 After waiting 4 hours and 30 minutes the techs "yes plural" showed up and immediately announced there was nothing they could do for us as this is a " known software issue related to Mediacoms new 1Gig service rollout." The tech said he had plenty of modems that dont work but since he cant access a working one he has no way to figure out whats wrong. We were told that we just need to wait a few days to see what happens. Our main symptom is 0.00 mbps upload after multiple speed tests. Update*** 4/15/17 Finally upload speeds are back to normal and we are back up. Update*** 5/5/17 Internet has been dropping out for hours at a time for a few days. Spoke with tech support and he could offer no solution. Tech is scheduled between 8 am and noon on the 8th. I wont hold my breath. Update*** 5/8/17. Its 12:30PM and the tech just informed me hes in Cannon Falls and is 1 hour away. We are in Chanhassen. Who does the logistics when it comes to scheduling. Ive lost another full day at work and they offer me $20 measly dollars, Mediacom asshats!!!! Its 2:30PM and the tech just left. He replaced the modem and complained he didnt get lunch. Its 5:30PM and I just spent 40 minutes on the phone with tech support. The internet went down 30 mins after the tech left. The conclusion is I need another modem. That will be the third one in two days FOR CHRIST SAKE Mediacom PULL YOUR HEADS OUT OF YOUR ASS!!??!
