The experience with this store and its customer service has left a serious bad taste in my mouth and I will not be giving them any more of my business. I dropped off my vehicle the night before and left my keys in the drop box along with a form where (given several options on the form) I indicated that I wanted the mechanic to call me to confirm any and all service prior to doing it. I received a call the following morning indicating that they were replacing the starter on our Chrysler Town & County and quoted me a price of $407.10 w/ tax. I agreed to the charge which seemed reasonable and arranged to pick up the vehicle later that day. When I arrived to pick up the vehicle and handed the clerk my credit card he informed me that my bill was now $471.50. As he was swiping my card, I inquired why the bill was different from what I was quoted on the phone and he indicated there was an extra labor charge for fixing some corroded wires they came across while replacing the starter. In the scheme of things the additional charge wasnt anything that broke the bank and was still within the realm of what I was prepared to pay for a new starter, but I was extremely displeased with the lack of being upfront with additional charges and/or even contacting me to inform me of the corroded wires and the additional cost to fix them. When I called to complain to the "manager" it ended up being the same clerk that had processed my payment at the desk. He eventually apologized but did not offer any redress for the situation. I will not be returning any business to the establishment and would caution others who are looking to give their business to this place.

Terrible experience with the Uhaul service. Had a confirmed confirmation number and email stating the service would be guaranteed. My husband showed up on our moving day to find out we had no truck and the lady at the desk even told my husband it was "not her problem". Indeed it was her problem, as that was/is her job nor anyway to treat any customer. No offer to even help us find another truck in the metro. We reported to corporate office where they kept referring us to different people- the manager of the store was also a nightmare to contact. Very disappointing experience and will never use or recommend Grimes Tire and Auto nor Uhaul ever again. Luckily we were able to get another Budget truck from Ankeny, which should be paid by the store and/or Uhaul as our truck was "guaranteed" on our moving day. Extremely upsetting and awful experience, especially on an already stressful moving day. Save the trouble and go somewhere else.

Brought my car in because I thought I had a wheel bearing issue and didnt want to make my Thanksgiving trip out of state with a bad bearing. This can be dangerous. Told the shop what I thought was the issue, my bearings. They said it wasnt the bearings, it was my tires. Okay. So we replaced the tires. Fast foward to today. Heading out on a ten hour trip back home and whattaya know, my bearing starts failing. Thankfully no one was hurt. Luckily found a place that was open and got my needed repairs. It did set my trip back three hours. If Grimes auto gave a crap about their customers, I would have been saved a lot of trouble. Might help of they knew a thing or two about cars aswell. 2/10 would not go back.

Great place to have your car repaired. Took both cars never had a problem with service or felt like they were talking down to me or my wife and daughter for our lack of car repair knowledge. Their advice on needed car repairs are more on target than any dealership I have ever been to. As for the U-Haul service sharing the building I would not trust again if my life depended on it. Worthless service. Reserved the truck 45 days in advance, had a email confirmation of the reservation. 3 day from the pick up date received notice of the change in the pick-up location, somewhere south of Des Moines.

Purchased 4 tires from Grimes tire and auto. They chose to not do an alignment or advise me to do an alignment. 20k miles later, my tires are shot. When I brought it back in thinking the tires would be under warranty, I was told since the alignment is off the warranty was void. Kevin (the service manager) proceeded to argue with me in the lobby stating it was up to me and who I have service the vehicle to catch it. If I could give them a negative rating I would. It should be noted that I have been bringing different cars to the shop ever since they opened.

Sent my college age daughter, she told them she wanted brake pads. They called her and said it needed rotors. I appreciated that they gave us the information and stressed the importance, but they made her feel like an idiot. She was afraid to call them back, her fear was warranted, they laughed at her and made her feel awful. We are car people, we had a plan for how we were getting things done, could have done brakes ourselves but didnt have time at the moment. Thought we would support local. Wont go back.

Shop does not have great mechanics. Code reader is out of date. All they want to do is charge a bunch of diagnostic fees. Told them what was wrong with my vehicle and over an hour later the mechanic comes in and says it looks like its going to be exactly what I said it was. Part was sitting in center console the whole time waiting for them to put it in. If you enjoying paying money for nothing this is the place for you.

I was pleased with their diagnosis. They fixed the car for the amount they said. They also pointed out some other items that should get attention soon but were not urgent. I had my uncle check them (he is a mechanic) and he confirmed what they said. Kevin was really nice and I will definitely go back to have other work done when needed.

I had a busted belt that needed to be replaced on my car and within an hour of me calling them they had the part delivered and installed. They charged a fair price and Kevin was a big help through the whole process. I dont need much from an auto shop, just fast and fair, and they came through for me. I will go back there.

I came with 2 questions about my cars issues I thought I had. And they gave me free advice and convinced me that there is nothing actually wrong with my car. Some auto shops could create or take advantage and may charge me for that, but Grimes Tire&Auto Center did it for free. It was a pleasant experience. Thank you!

Kevin and his crew always take very good care of my car and the cars of my family members. Theyre prompt, helpful, and whenever I need work done, whether routine maintenance or repair works, I know my cars are being cared for well. If youre on the west side of the Des Moines metro area, this is the place to go!
