My disabled mom had a brake line rust out on her car. I thought it would be an easy fix for me- afterall, it just unscrews. I bought the part from autozone and realized I had bitten off more than I can chew - this requires bending the brake line to match the old. (I am a girl!) I stopped in to Higgins because it was right up the street from where the car broke down. I took the line in there and asked them if there was any way for them to bend it to match the old. Not only did they bend it, but they sent one of their guys back to the car with me to finish the job. The mechanic was able to get the broken, stripped fitting off and replaced the line, bled the brakes, and even brought brake fluid from the shop. I will seriously never take my car anywhere else! This is AMAZING service. The work was great and this is absolutely the best customer service Ive ever had in my life!!

SLOW - Would Rate 0 If Possible! Bought tires here. Came back to repair a leak from a nail in one. Drove straight home and parked in the garage. Next time we went to drive, the tire was completely flat. Took the tire off to bring it in to have it re-patched and have been waiting 3 hours. They still havent started looking at it. In this time Ive seen techs standing around looking at newspapers longer than it should have taken to fix the tire correctly. Save your time and money. Take your business somewhere, anywhere else! Update - After another half hour and asking the receptionist, I found out that the leak was around the bead. Apparently it wasnt properly sealed after the patch was placed inside the tire. Now Ive taken half a day off work and waited nearly 4 hours for them to fix something that should have been done right the first time and it still isnt fixed.

$75 an hour, Broke more than they fixed!!!! Higgins was suggested as being fast and reasonably price to my mother last fall. Radiator replacement, they told her it would be $150. They waited 3 days to do it, charged her $75 an -hour- for labor and charged 3 hrs worth of labor. It took them 45 mins between telling her they were about to do it and that they had, but they charged $75 an HOUR and added an extra 2. After they failed to put -any- radiator fluid in the car they then managed to snap off the bottom of the dip stick. So the car instantly started leaking oil, which it never had before. But for $75 an hour they couldnt be bothered to fix their mistake. They returned her car with no oil, and no anti-freeze, and a broken part. Ive got to say, WORST place to get your car fixed. PERIOD.

It seems Ive had the worst luck with Auto Garages until Higgins! I took my cars to them for follows ups because of messes other places made. They didnt have to help me but they did! Keith sat down with me and showed me how the parts should work. Rick took more time than he really needed to and explained things to me in depth too! They took the time to treat me like a person and not just a customer, if that makes sense. They also were VERY honest about things that needed to be done. They told me to not waste my money on the older car because Id be spending more than it was worth. The other one they explained what needed to be fixed and advised on what was necessary and what could wait. I trust them 100% and will use them as my auto repair from here on out!

I have been taking my cars to the Higgins Plaza Service station for about 10 years. They have consistently provided honest, professional, courteous and efficient service. They take great pride in a job well done and in each case have stood behind the repairs performed. I picked up my car yesterday fully expecting to pay $1000 for what I BELIEVED to be the repairs required and they knew that. The REAL problem turned out to cost $140. This kind of integrity is hard to find. In addition, Rick took care of a battery snafu and Pat a rear wiper problem both for no charge. If customers who have been to their shop one time notice the same qualities that a long-term customer returns for, I would say that the actions of the Higgins family speak for themselves. - Shelli T.

Came Across higgins while searching for snow tires yesterday in des moines, I was stranded and out of luck finding bridgestones. The guys at higgins found me a full set of snow tires and promptly said they would pick them up whether I was going to have them installed or not they would be there waiting. The prices were fair and the staff was courteous and knowledgeable. Being a former Land Rover Master Technician im very picky about who works on my vehicle im confident the crew at higgins would do a great job on any vehicle and I would highly recommend them

Pat was so pleasant, professional and honest with the service he performed. Didnt charge extra labor from his quote even after he had to work longer to get to the part he was replacing based on its location and other wires in the way. I witnessed various interaction between the gal at the front desk, the mechanics, and customers. Everyone of the people in this business is old-school where whats best for the customer is what they do. I found this place upon a recommendation of a co-worker and they are now my new mechanic shop for all our vehicles

Rick and the service crew at Higgins are great! It may not be the best looking place on the planet, but If you want an HONEST opinion and estimate on maintenance work, I would suggest these guys. I was on a road trip with my family from California and was having a clicking sound in the front end of the car... Pat, I guess Ricks brother, told me exactly what it was, showed me the problem, and gave me my options. While my wife, two kids, and I went to the shopping centre across the street, they did the dirty work. These are just great Iowan guys!

Cant say enough good things about Keith and everyone at Higgins Auto Plaza! Took my vw passat in for something the other big shops keep saying was an intake cam or other expensive repairs. Keith had the problem located to a $140 electrical component in the first day. In addition to the repair, he looked over the car for commonly know issues and recommended some things to me as preventive maintenance. Higgins Auto Plaze you have a customer for life! Ill recommend them to everyone!

Fantastic timely, honest service from Keith. He went above and beyond to fit my car in for service while here on holiday vacation. He properly diagnosed and advised on several issues that other dealers had wrong, and he provided quick and affordable service. How refreshing to receive such great and knowledgeable service! I will certainly be returning for future car appointments.

The staff is nice enough, but I came in for a simple oil change, and sat for over an hour before realizing they hadnt even taken my car back. When I mentioned something to the receptionist, they finally took it back. My whole family comes here, but after several instances like this, we will be taking our business elsewhere. Not recommended unless you have a spare 3-4 hours.
