I had a 90 minute massage with Natalie. Natalie was magnificent - she did a tremendous job, and I love the aromatherapy. Although I prefer a spa with a separate place to change and lock up your belongings, and a comfortable and soothing waiting area if you get there early, Im okay with having to undress in the massage room (Natalie stepped out, of course). What made it difficult to truly relax and enjoy the massage was the NOISE. For 90 minutes, I heard the constant chatter, laughter, and sometimes even hollering of the other staff members at the spa. It was like having someone come give you a massage at the office! And, as if that werent enough, overhead I could hear people walking (clomping, really) and moving furniture, plus the sounds of the pipes whenever water was running. I realize Aveda has limited space and its hard to cordon off the massage area, but I was frankly surprised that at least staff are not instructed to keep their voices down to a whisper when in the back near the massage rooms. Although I really loved Natalie, I can get just as excellent a massage but in a truly soothing, peaceful atmosphere at other spas in Bethesda - for about the same price - so I doubt Ill return to Aveda, unless I have a massage "emergency" and cant find appointments anywhere else. But even then, I might try to hold out for peace.

I was at the Aveda Bethesda on Mothers Day 09 for a massage and manicure and pedicure. I have been to many day spas from DC to NY to Las Vegas and I have never had a bad experience until that day. I guess I didn’t do my research because it seems they are simply a salon who performs some spa treatments on the side. I was annoyed that I could hear people talking and laughing and doors slamming during my massage. This is not my idea of relaxing in any way shape or form. My pedicure was performed in a little at home foot soak and for that’s fine but for 50 dollars I would expect better than if I walked into a little nail place on the street. At least at a nail place you get to sit in a relaxing vibrating chair and they are able to clean the tub in front of you. How you clean that little con air foot soak between customers I have no idea but it seems very unsanitary. The whole process was just very un-spa like for me. I am used to spa where you can truly relax, take a shower and be invigorated by a wonderful massage that is done in a truly tranquil environment. I left Aveda bethesda feeling tenser than when I came in mostly because I was so disgusted at the whole experience. Overall to spend 200 dollars at that location was a total waste and I would NEVER recommend it to anyone unless they wanted a haircut or something.

Even after moving out of town, I still return to the Aveda salon in Bethesda for haircuts, hair and beauty products, and beauty advice. The talented, experienced staff has taken care to cultivate a devoted following over the years. No one takes better care of my thick, curly locks than Lan. Im also a fan of Lynn and Serge, whove expertly cut my husbands hair before important occasions. Finally, a special note of praise for Claire at the front desk, who is the all-time sweetest, most organized and conscientious employee a salon could hope to have. The management should throw money at that classy gal, cause she keeps the clients comin back for more! Overall a top-notch, highly professional, courteous, helpful, and all-around fabulous staff, salon and store.

Before I started using Aveda Bethesda I tried 4 other Hair Salons. And none of them could consistently get my cut and color right. One month its be perfect, the next month Id be blonde, the month after that it would go frizzy... I went to Aveda Bethesda because I like the Aveda products. On first impression it seems small and cramped, with things like customer waiting aread and hair washing stations squished in wherever theres a little room. The pace is rather frenetic, unlike other Aveda salons I have visited, But Lan is amazing. My hair color looks better and more natural than my actual color and my hair looks good no matter how much (or little) work I put into it. And it looks good EVERY TIME. And that makes this salon the best Ive found in the DMV.

I went into Aveda for a haircut. I hadnt cut my hair in a while so the stylist (Cathy) and I agreed to cut off about 2.5 inches. I really did not want a different style, just a clean-up job. We discussed layers and my side bangs. In the end, she cut off about 8 inches, straight across without layers, and didnt trim my bangs. The one thing I really wanted cut -- my bangs -- were not changed and the rest that I just wanted trimmed was chopped off. I have pretty curly hair so without nice layers, my hair turns into a frizzy triangle. My mother, however, went to Lynne and her haircut and blowout were great. In the future, I would go to Lynne, but never again to Cathy.

Lovely salon & spa and helpful but not cloying staff members. Well-trained technicians and therapists. Although, it is true that street parking is difficult (where IS it easy in Bethesda!) there, is a giant county ground level lot with dozens of disabled spots, directly across the street. I have been going there for ten years, now and they have some staff that gave been there all that time. Happy, proficient staff = great customer experience. The only draw-back is that salon services are offered up a flight of stairs and if you are disabled, you should consider that. You will be happy or they make it so. I like that level of service.

This was my first time at the Aveda salon at Bethesda Row, and I had a wonderful experience. The staff is very nice and welcoming and takes great care of you! Kerry did an incredible job with my thick, long hair- transforming my look to something very polished and professional. I was very pleased with her work! I have a very dry scalp and Kerry gave me a life-saving oil treatment and a gentle shampoo- making what is usually very painful for me something quite pleasant and relaxing. Overall, a great experience- would definitely return!

I have found a perfect angel that waxes my brows and lips. Audrey is the best. I usually have slight irritation after my lip waxes but not with her. She is also an artist when she waxes brows. You should hear the compliments that I receive. Also, if you want to feel that you really had your feet and toes cleaned and not just washed and polish like most salons, you have to go to Roa. She has been a veteran of an unbelievable pedicure, for many years, and it shows. Audrey and Roa are the best.

I purchased a $60 Aveda gift card online. When my wife went to this location to redeem it, they stammered, lied, and claimed they were a private business which had nothing to do with Aveda. When we confronted them with evidence from the website as well as the eGift card, they reversed course and said the card could actually be applied to purchase some of their shampoos, just not any of their services (the website mentioned no such restrictions on its use). Avoid this scam operation.
