Buyers beware!!! Ive had Comcast, RCN, and DirectTV and RCN is by far the worst provider out of the group. What a complete train wreck RCN has been. NEVER AGAIN will I ever sign up with them. 1) RCN service is complete crap. It constantly goes out, and if it does their technical support team is incompetent. For example, my cable modem crapped out, and I had to drive to their office in Arlington to get a new one. I had an open work order to cancel my service in a month and they told me they couldnt activate the new cable modem since the work order was still open? I literally had to cancel my work order for these fools to re-activate the cable modem. Then i had to call again to open another work order for cancelation. Ugh, what a waste of time. 2) Their channel line up is strange. I have the premium/premier package (whatever they call it these days) and although I get a decent number of channels, theyve excluded ones like Science Channel and other staples that any premium package should get. Comcast offers these with no up-charges. If you see the channel line-up on their page, youll scratch your head. 3) Initially, you think youre saving money since Comcast may seem more expensive but you will probably be deceived. Just keep an eye out for Comcast promotions and/or call their 800 number and youll get a waaaaaaaaay better deal than RCN can offer. For $89 Comcast gave me digital premium TV (with free HD DVR), digital voice, and high speed internet (up to 20mbs) with free HBO and Stars for a whole year without contract. AWESOME. Im paying $114 with RCN and I just have digital TV and internet with HBO and Tivo. Tivo isnt that great. 4) Finally, Comcast offers waaaaaaaaay more selections on demand. Do yourself a favor, stay away from RCN because you think it will be cheaper. In the end you get what you pay for. At the end of the day, all three of the providers are greedy bastards and will try to screw you, but Comcast is the best out of all three in terms of what you get and service. Ive had all three so take it from me.

That awkward moment when Comcast monumentally has better customer service than another provider. First off, I was psyched by the 49.99 deal for TV and internet! With a TiVo service? I was pumped. I got a T6 and a mini for my room. Living in Brighton, I have an older house that only has one coax port. I knew that the tivo mini could use moca or ethernet, so I asked what functions I could get from the tv mini. First, they said Tivos had no streaming powers, which I said was one of the Tivos main features. I directed them to the main tivo site on RCN and showed where they were wrong. They said only coax would work, so I had to direct them to their own website where it showed ethernet or moca. They still insisted they were right and wouldnt let me speak to anyone else. She later called and apologized and said she was wrong. During installation, my person came an hour early and shut off my internet during a work call. We then set everything up in the main room, and he let me install the tivo mini myself. Its super easy once the main Tivo is connected. You plug the hdmi into your tivo, the ethernet port in, and the power, and it sets itself up based on the main tivo on the same network. I enjoyed having this in my room - my roommate wanted to add one for hers. They said theyd charge $50 for the install, and wouldnt let me install myself. I said I could definitely do it and did it myself before, but they insisted on charging $50 and having somebody do it themselves. The service itself is okay - very old user interface - but honestly Im probably going to switch back to Comcast as they make everything difficult. Comcast allows self installs, has more informed tech support, and similar prices.

Service was spotty for about a year until we began losing all internet access every single evening for a few months running. At first they were helpful, sent a technician out (who was friendly, but couldnt figure out what was going wrong, told us to have patience, etc.) and didnt charge us for the first month of loss of use. They wouldnt forgive the second months loss of use and after numerous calls and another two months with no improvement, we cancelled. They are very classy: if you dont immediately return the equipment YOURSELF (they told me over the phone that theyd send prepaid postage for shipping stuff back to them, but they never did), they just automatically stick ~$500 on your bill and then will send it to collections shortly after. Ive had problems with Comcast too, but I think RCN are worse: theyre a little cheaper than Comcast, but you get what you pay for (and often much less).

You may be correct and say that their cable internet is cheaper but you get what you pay for. Currently 7/13/2009 RCNs "Mach 5" 5Mbps Down and 384Kbps Up is $50. Comcast at 15Mbps Down 5Mbps Up is $50. Not sure how you think it is cheaper/better. Their tech service is awful. If you cancel make sure you call 10 days ahead because, wow, it is so difficult to hit a button on a computer screen to stop service at that moment in time. Although, they sure can click that button if you want to purchase service and wow, is it fast. Make sure you get a receipt saying you dropped off your boxes, cables and a plugs because if you dont they will file a claim and not bother to tell you about it. I am not kidding about the plugs either. They will bill you for the entire box if a plug is missing.

Oh, yeah, ComCast here I come Internet service is so-so. You wont get what you were promissed. In additional, if ComCast or Verizon value their customers who stayde for a long run, rcn DOES NOT. Other companys will give you some discounts for being long term customer (for example, Verizon decreased my bill in more than half for bieng with them over 4 years), but rcn will actualy throw extra $10 or more on the top of your mo bill. Like it was said above and below. I started in Jan 2014 with just $49.99, now it is Feb 2016 and my rcn bill is $69.99. So? by the year of 2019 Ill be paying $100. For the same service that ppl pay when they just get rcn. Really? My last month with rcn
