Like Courtney, I hate big service providers. Ive had RCN for about four months, service has been excellent, and today was the first time I had a problem. I called Customer Service expecting the usual grill where they treat you like its your fault, make you repower your modem five times, and tell you they dont support Apple products, only to discover later that your entire neighborhood has an outage (True story compliments of Comcast). This, on the other hand, was the most amazing Customer Service experience Ive ever had and all with a recording. Step one: "Do you need tech support?" YES. (short pause, and here comes the amazing part:) "Okay weve checked your line and will need to send out a technician." (notice shocked expression on my face) "We have a slot available tomorrow between 10am and 12pm." (huh? you can come tomorrow?) "Is that good?" YES! "An adult over 18 years of age must be there." That was it. Done deal. Less than thirty seconds! Im using the time I saved to write this review!

Im very critical of ISPs due to my previous experiences, but without a doubt RCN has been the best by far and no I am not paid to give a good review. 1) Great customer service, easy to set up - dont hear that much anymore 2) 2 hour installation window and full installation was completed in less than 30 minutes - I know it varies based on your home setup but that is my experience 3) Value! I did not need to haggle for a plan. With Comcast they try to sell cable tv, dont need it and had to talk to multiple people to say, give me what I want or Im leaving - with RCN cut my bill in half and doubled my internet speed. (I sound like I am in a commercial) 4) Consistent connection - great download and upload speeds. The only bad thing about RCN is that you cant get them in most of Boston, but it seems like they are expanding at least a little bit at a time. If it is available I suggest it 100%.

I was very satisfied with the service and the price. The one or two times i had issues the customer service was great - easy to talk to a human on the phone, and they were always friendly and helpful. Signing up was really painless and as was paying online. Heres the best thing - there was no point where i thought they were actively trying to drive me insane, which ive had with several other internet/phone/tv providers over the years. im moving and rcn unfortunately isnt in the town im moving to which is a bummer - id definitely have kept them. now i have to switch to a larger competitor which i have read pretty bad things about, and they are already charging me nearly 40% more for the same service i was getting with rcn. and thats their "introductory offer". if you have the option, go with RCN.

I really like RCN. Wayyyy better than the other big-name competitor whom I loathe with all of my being. RCN always has great deals and even better customer service. The unfortunate thing is that RCN is not available in every town. So when I recently moved I was delighted that RCN was available there. It was a no-brainer. Funny thing is I receive so much junk mail from that other competitor with all of these great offers to join up with them, and the truth is they could offer me the moon and I would not take it. I will stick with RCN, thank you very much.

I have been with RCN for I believe 10 + years, and I can honestly say that the service is VERY RELIABLE.....I live in a neighborhood with Verizon and Xfinity and I know my neighbors are always having service issues with the other guys. RCN is a no bells and whistles service - but everything works. Like all the cable companies the price in my opinion is high given the amount of streaming content available and THEY ALL NEED to figure out a pricing strategy that shows the consumer value.

Pros : Affordable, Fast, Good Customer service, Never experienced maintenance, Free Speed Upgrade, Own modem router option. Cons : Not available everywhere. Other thoughts : When I first got RCN I got a 50 MBPS internet for $35 with own modem and router. 10 month later they gave me a speed upgrade of 155 MBPS for free. I loved it. Where Xfinity offered me a 25MBPS internet for $40.

RCN is now no longer what it use to be. Had problems with the Hyde Park ave office a couple times in this past year alone. For one theyre rude and their service is rotten. Bye RCN, Im going to Comcast.

Great internet speed at the start, however after a couple months of service I have been noticing constant disconnects and periods where internet barely loads.
