We had an issue with our half-bath toilet not flushing and occasionally bubbling/backing up when the half bath sink ran or the washing machine (same side of the house) drains. We had a different company come out initially and they removed the toilet and snaked the drain pulling out some debris. They then ran into a hard stop further down the drain under our main bathroom. Their immediate diagnosis was a collapsed pipe and we would need to excavate despite everything in the main bath working fine. and suggested we call their partner company to do the excavating. Additionally we were told not to use the half-bath toilet. Panic ensued, however after a time we came to the realization that there were no issues anywhere else in the house. The main bath drained fine, as did the kitchen sink and dishwasher. We had the town come out and mark the sewer lines and discovered that the main comes out from the main bath (where there has been no problem) into our backyard and then out to the street. Still unsure of what was going on we called Roto-Rooter to get a second opinion. Scheduling was easy and they worked with our schedule. Bob and Joe came out in the evening on a Friday and after explaining the situation they immediately began testing the drains by filling all the sinks and then letting them drain out - no issues. Next they tested the half bath toilet and it still didnt flush. Joe and Bob took a bucket and forced the water down the drain confirming the drain was not an issue. They then stuck a rod into the jet and pulled out a lot of dried calcium deposits and other debris. Sure enough the toilet started flushing fine. In 10 minutes they solved a problem that the other company could not. They then offered their drain cleaning and camera service and given that we are new-homeowners we agreed to make sure everything was ok. The cost for the service was fractional compared to the other company. They did hit the block and couldnt go any further but rather than start talking about excavating Bob and Joe advised that sometimes, on slab foundations, the drain makes sharp turns or doubles back on itself after picking up all the fixtures before leaving the house. Given the fact that the snake cable and blade are thick they said it is reasonable that it just cant make it around the corner. Part of the service does include a camera scope done by a fully trained drain camera specialist. We are working on getting that scheduled but were assured the specialist would tell us exactly what is going on and if there are any issues what our options are. Once everything checks out okay, Roto-Rooter will also guarantee the drain for six months. Joe and Bob also pointed out/fixed a few other minor issues for us while waiting for confirmation that main was draining (bent flange under the toilet, leaky trap under the main bathroom sink) All told we got excellent service, a lot of answers, good information and reasonable peace-of-mind from Bob and Joe, and Roto-Rooter in general, for a third of the cost of what we paid the other company for no answers and a panic attack. And thanks to their Preferred Service Technician program we will be using Roto-Rooter, and Bob and Joe, going forward.

Roto Rooter came out to replace a pipe from our house to the street - which was a pretty big job.($11K)We were guaranteed verbally in no uncertain terms that they would put the yard back together exactly as it was. For the 5 years we have lived in the house I worked day and night to keep our yard beautiful and was worried about this job, so I had conversations about this with everyone involved. Both the excavator NICK and plumber DAVE McLEAN assured me that the yard would be restored. They were so anxious to get the job that they made these promises.I even asked them if I should hire someone to come out and remove all the plants before they started the job. I would have been more than happy to do that, but was assured that there would be no problem, they would do everything.Instead they destroyed 90% of what was in the yard and replaced about 10 plants in the upturned rocks. Two separate landscapers were very surprised to see this and told us that the plants would surely die if left as they were.Roto Rooter wanted the job and were happy enough to lie to get it.They also left us this huge pile of stones, claiming that my 70 year old father told them that he would take care of it. He never said that, and it is crazy to think that he could do so on his own even if he did. When contacted and asked to make it right I was told by a guy named RYAN that someone would come take a look. If they did, we never saw them. On the phone I was told that it looked fine, and we should live with it. When pushed about exactly when they came out, or what - if anything - they would do to help make it right RYAN refused to talk about it.

I came home from a long weekend at the Cape to find Id had a sewer back-up in my basement! Nothing like poop in your basement to ruin the end of a good weekend!! I called Roto-Rooter via their Georgetown, MA phone number at 1:45pm and they advised someone would be to my house by 4pm, if not earlier. Roto also noted their restoration crew would also contact me. At 2:06, the restoration crew called to advise they were an hour out. Both the drain tech and restoration team lead were here by 3:30pm! Professional, friendly and conscientious of walking through my home (after being in my basement), Christian was able to roto and clear the line. He was also able to explain in general how cities differ in their definition of inside/outside and the citys plumbing. Even being in the insurance world, I did not know where my plumbing ends and the citys begins. At least now, I know I need to ask the question of the city! Once the line was cleared and the paper work done, Christian noted next steps - camera to be installed in the next couple of days. Once the restoration crew does their part, my basement will be back to normal! Given horror stories from friends, I can say my situation was/is not that bad but still....when there is poop in your basement and sewer is backing up, it was great that Roto-Rooter took care of me quickly!!! Sincerely, Kimberly Simones (Tibbetts)

Excellent work by Stephen. I cannot recommend him highly enough. 3 stars with a bullet! But then there was the trouble with the home office. Its not that I had to wait nine hours after I submitted my request online; its not that they did not express regret at the delay; its the whole picture that bugged me beyond belief. Apparently they were having computer problems. But instead of telling me that, they lied. They changed the reservation time I requested and did not tell me. And yet I know they had my telephone number, because they called me at 3:30 (five and a half hours after I made the appointment) to say their man would be here somewhere between 4:15 and 4:30. And when I called at 4:45 to find out where he was, they said he was still stuck on another job; ditto when I called at 6:00. So, I basically had to sit around my house for nine hours because Roto-Rooter has crap skills at communication. If they had told me of computer problems, I would have understood and worked out a Plan B with them. But because not only were they not telling me anything useful, they were actually lying to me, Id give them a minus three stars. And to think I had to pay a third of a grand for the privilege! BTW: "0" on the Google+ scale means "Poor - Fair". Shouldnt the value of zero be a bit more absolute?
