Today I called Pep Boys to get an estimate on tires. I was given an estimate of $156.00 for 2 tires which was reasonable so I made an appointment for 11am to have them installed. Upon my arrival, I was told that the tires I was quoted for were not quality tires and were sold just for emergency purposes with no warranty and would only be good for 30,000 miles. They looked me up in the system and I had purchased tires 2 years earlier under a 60,000 mile warranty and my tires only had about 30,000 miles. My tire brand had of course gone out of business but the rep said he would do what he could to honor the warrantee which he stated was prorated based on the tires use. Therefore, given that I had used 50% of my tire life, I would imagine a 50% discount right? Wrong. The quote he gave me (230) was actually only about 16 bucks less than the quote that was provided online when I entered the same order (online quote =246.61) Yet, he had told me earlier that they started at 270. At this point I decided to go with the unwarranted cheaper tires (I figured they did not honor their warrantee anyway so why pay more?). While I was waiting, I was reviewing the reviews online and saw consistent reviews that the low cost tires had terrible traction and were dangerous so I asked if I could change my order to the more expensive ones. It was around 12pm (an hour after my appointment time). The rep told me that the service agent had not started working yet so he could make the change. An hour later at 1pm, I checked and the rep was still out (no one had told me). At this point I cancelled my appointment and the price of the tires changed again from 230 to 216. I figured it took this long to get the price to 216, so I might as well reschedule (a horrible mistake). I rescheduled for 6pm the same day and arrived back and the attendant at the desk recommended I get 4 tires, he said it would be cheaper cause the 4th one would be thrown in for free. I asked how much and he said 430 (exactly twice as much as I had been quoted for the 2). I said no. He actually asked me, "How low does it have to be to be worth your while to get the 4?" and then got a phone call and left before I could answer. I asked the other front desk attendant how long it would be to get out if I just got the 2 tires and she said there were 6 people a head of me (though I had a 6pm appointment). I reminded her that I had waited there for 2 hours earlier that afternoon. She said she couldnt help that they were behind. Why did they make a second appointment and say they could get me in then? At that point, I called my dealer. I have a reputable dealer who on the first quote quoted me just 30 dollars more than Pep Boys lowest quote for a high quality tire (Fire Stone) that likely will remain in business (i.e., they will honor their warrantee). Also, there was no negotiating. He was straight forward and honest. The price he gave me was what it was and while he couldnt lower it, it was a quality tire. It was worth the 30 bucks more to get an honest price that did not fluctuate that was from a quality manufacturer. The dealer told me he could get me in in the next 20 minutes and it would be an hour to get the work done. Everything was exactly as he said it would be and I was out when he said Id be out. Extremely honest and did not play games like Pep Boys. It was worth the extra 30 bucks to know I was getting a quality tire from an honest dealer. The only reason I didnt go there at first was cause they were farther away and I didnt want to drive on the tire but it was worth it in the end. One of the best decisions I have made was to go with the dealer.

If I could put a half of a star or even a third of a star I would. Maybe even If I could give you guys 0 out of 5 stars. I had my car dropped off Friday early to solve a leak culprit. Took the "smart" mechanics 4 days to put dye in my car just to not know what the issue was. I understand not knowing where its leaking from, no one is Jesus Christ, but the fact that it took multiple people 4 DAYS to lift their elbow and pour green dye in my oil and trans? I didnt have a car all weekend, and couldnt even work on Monday bc your staff was too damn lazy to call my father or I and tell us my car was sitting There useless as f*** while all your employees stood in there with their fingers in their asses and didnt even know where paperwork was for which car. I walked in Monday and had to wait 20 minutes for my car to be pulled up 50 feet out of the garage. They then tried to make me pay for it sitting there for 4 days and them "trying to fix it". My ass, there was zero effort put in on my car, if you wanted to put dye in and see then it could have been finished Saturday. Some black guy walked out of your store eating a banana in front of me talking down to me and trying to make me pay. Yeah you guys are VERY professional. You want me to put the money you dont deserve in ur left hand or should I slip it on the banana peel? Pathetic service, pathetic employees, and if I could have a jack and tools at my house I would do better than all your employees. Maybe give them a test before you hire them blindly to work at an auto store the people pay and have their cars looked at by a bunch of bullshit people. Theres not one auto shop I can trust now a days and its reasons like your facility. Pathetic service is the moral of my story. Hire people that actually know what their doing and I may bring my car back.

Awhile back, I dropped off my vehicle for an Oil Change and Tire Rotation. Got a call later saying there was a problem, that they had blew up my engine... The Managers stated they had drained the oil, and someone took it down off the lift and started it with NO OIL and it had died right there. When talking to a few employees, they stated they actually drained the oil, then went for a test drive around the block, where it died shortly out of the parking lot. Pretty bad when the Mangers cant be trusted, and lie to customers. Then they got me 2 used engines, the first was full of oil in every nook and crany, the 2nd engine wasnt the right engine for my vehicle but they installed it anyway. The engine used to stall all the time, but after some work on my end and with other DECENT MECHANICS & TECHNICIANS, ive got it running back to normal. Its funny though also that when this all happened, i had to rent a car for 2 weeks due to their F**K up, and they were only going to re-imburse me for 1/4 of what my rental was!!!! But I got all the money back out of that, just by pushing their corporate that I would turn this into a media frenzy, in which they gave and I was given a full re-imbursement. The 2 Mangers that I dealt with there at the time which I do not know if are still employeed are Mike & Trevor. Deffinently not manager worthy. They will no longer receive my business or business from my family/friends. Besides that incident, they have did a good job in the past, there are a few employees there that deserve to be promoted to a manager position, and kick out the current managers, so the location can be ran correctly.
