Unbelievable. We bought THEIR lock, we promptly paid every month of our storage unit rental, and when it came time to move our stuff, the keys wouldnt work. This is not a review of the lock hardware. We successfully opened our unit two times after initially purchasing--the second time a mere five months before our moving day. What changed? The attendant couldnt tell us. After about an hour wasted at the storage facility, we noticed that the concrete stoop underneath the door looked brand new. The attendant couldnt even tell us if maintenance had been performed on the unit. He called the district manager to ask what to do, and the best solution was to call a locksmith. The attendant couldnt tell us if wed be reimbursed for this additional cost. When we asked to speak to the district manager to ask him this policy question, the attendant hung up the phone--the manager had told him he didnt want to speak to us because "he doesnt work on the weekends." When exactly do they think most people move their belongings??? If you will have a tight timeline to move (e.g. a one-day UHaul rental) do NOT put your trust in these people. Were moving to Saint Cloud with half our belongings.

I thought I did auto pay for my monthly payments at the Apple Valley location and being the busy single parent that I am, Im not that great at checking emails so the very nice lady at the Apple Valley, MN location gave me a call to let me know that I either didnt do auto pay or that it didnt go through. She was kind enough to take a min out of her day to call and tell me(but never a min when you have me on the phone as Im a talker) Although it is not my personal belongings and it is actually the belongings of my boyfriend when he moved to MN, I would still hate to loose someones stuff due to a mistake, if it was my fault or not. I now would 100% recommend this location & would feel comfortable leaving my 1st born in her care! The security there makes you be able to sleep at night knowing someone has your belongings in great care. And with a name like mine I knew she was fabulous! Hope to meet this Sheila someday, Best Regards, The Real Sheila

Sheila is the best!! She is super friendly & funny, and really knows how to brighten up the environment. The storage unit we rented (10 x 35) was great. Had a ceiling light inside and a power outlet right outside the door. One suggestion for anyone who rents a storage unit, and it was not a problem for me, but the concrete floors in the units can "sweat" a little after a rain storm. No standing water at all, just can be slightly damp. If you are putting cardboard boxes in, or furniture, or anything else that is sensitive to water, put down some painters poly sheeting first (sold in rolls at home improvement stores). Like I said, I did not have a problem at all, but I did notice a couple sweaty spots on the floor in my unit. Not at all a flaw of Public Storage; just a characteristic of a concrete floor in an outdoor unit/garage. We had a five star experience and we will definitely choose Public Storage again for any future needs!!

Really aweful experience. January to August. Water came from all directions. It came from the ceiling, sides, back, and front. Everything was rotten, moldy, or stinky. I told the manager. This was not her problem. We made a special trip to town to pick up our stuff only to end up throwing away most of it. To rent units that cant keep water out is poor form. To accept payment after effectively destroying someones possessions is poor form. It looks like some people had a fine experience. With the amount of water staining in my unit, I know my unit was not the only issue. Just look at the pictures. The blacktop in front of the bay they have posted is higher than the unit. The units are not separated. Once water is in, its free to flow to other units. Its a recipe for water throughout. Are you feeling lucky?

I think it is terrible that you make the customer buy a "special" lock for $17 and you are unable to sell the lock back.. Really what am I suppose to do with this? You advertise rates for $1 for first month but end up paying over $40 for the lock and hidden fees. The lady tried to sell me insurance for the unit and told me that my homeowners didnt cover it.. Well I got my insurance rep on the phone and she said it was 100% covered.. I think they lady got a little red in the face and was sad she didnt receive her commissions. Other then that i have no problems with the storage unit. But I would tell others to BEWARE!

The property manager, Shelia, was great to work with. It was the first time Ive used a storage facility and she helped me with everything I needed. I had an issue with my pad lock and accidentally snapped one of the keys with part of it still inside the lock. I asked Shelia to help and she quickly found the problem. During the warmer days of the winter, the snow melted and water dripped inside the lock. When it got cold again, it froze the lock in place. If that ever happens to you, take a lighter to heat up the pad lock so you can melt the ice away. Then use your spare key to unlock it.

This is the first time we have ever rented a storage unit. We needed a safe place to store our summer lawn furniture and we are glad that we chose the Apple Valley store location. Public Storage is very fortunate to have Sheila representing the company! Initially we were drawn to this location because the first month rental only $1.00 but the real reason we will keep coming back is because of Sheila She is very welcoming and knows her customers. She is professional, very helpful, and gives great customer service! Best of all, she is lots of fun!

I havent had to use a storage facility in years. Sheila made this experience a great one. She was very professional and polite, she made me feel like I was an old friend. I had the opportunity to view the unit and the area. The unit was clean and the grounds were very clean also. She went over all the paperwork in detail. In the past, Ive had experienced a very cut and dry communication with the other facility personnel. If service is ever needed again, I will definitely come back. Great great service. Thanks Sheila

My girlfriend rented at this place, she had to wait in the parking lot when the sign was up. Waits 10 minutes PAST the sign time. Leaves to run an errand, arrives back to the sign up AGAIN. A woman opens a door nearest the office and walks a short distance to the office door. My girlfriend gets waited on finally. That evening Im hearing the story and how mellow and moody this lady behaved until she asked fora review. REALLY LADY? Tip, show a smile & be charming throughout the whole rental process.

Sheila is awesome, she was very welcoming on the phone when i called in for a unit, her friendly voice made me feel that this place was the place for me and my daughters to store our items. When we arrived at the office, sheila greeted us in the same friendly manor as she did on the phone. The rental process was easy and very enjoyable. What a friendly and secure place to store my items. I would highly recommend this public storage location, and just ask for sheila.
